Now they have me scheduled to work at 4 AM on Feb. 10 so unless I can find a sub (ha) I won't be able to see Bob Mould. Ah well, have David Gray and Chris Botti to look forward to in March.

I guess that's the nice thing about San Diego (or one of many ), there's hardly any music fans but all the artists want to come here anyway so we get concerts and you'll never have to worry about them selling out, unless you're trying to see Madonna, Britney Spears, or Matisyahu (don't ask, 'coz I don't know...[/color]) Anyway, just got back from the Spin Doctors. They can still perform, but the poor guys seem to have lost their ability to make music. Everything they did off their new CD sounded like a loud mess (including "Can't Kick the Habit," which would have been okay but they added about six minutes of jamming to the end which did not need to be there), though "Two Princes," "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," and that pocketful of kryptonite song were good. The openers were Tristan Prettyman, Kathleen Edwards, and some local cover band. Kathleen Edwards was easily the best IMO. The only good part of Tristan Prettyman's set was when she broke a string. The cover band was better than her. Next month I'm gonna go see Thomas Dolby and the English Beat.

Tomorrow the Spin Doctors are doing a free concert for KPRI listeners. I'm still on their mailing list, so I'm going...

And some people work cash registers with an Ivy League degree... I thought you were satisfied with your job. I am, but I made that remark because it was way too easy.

I would have said that they just take the same grade-school dropouts that run the registers and serve the food at McDonalds and put them in charge of writing scripts for their commercials as well, except that you learn very early on in grade school the proper usage of singular and pluralized words! Hey now! Some people work the cash registers as their high school jobs before they go off to college at the #2 public university in the nation... Although I completely agree, the grammar problems are super annoying. And some people work cash registers with an Ivy League degree...

Apparently there's two different cases this year. I was at Cost Plus World Market Today and saw the other one, so of course I picked it up. This one has better flavors IMO; in addition to Turkey and Gravy, there's Corn on the Cob, Pecan Pie, Broccoli Casserole, and Smoked Salmon Pate. I may have to get a few more cases of this one in fact.
I looked up some stuff and found out the one I got at Target is called the "National Pack" and should be available at Target everywhere. The other one is called the "Regional Pack" and is available at places like Cost Plus, some Tower Records, and other select locations.
I actually liked the spaghetti, spinach, horseradish, black pepper, and sardine jelly beans. I like those flavors anyway, and once you get past the fact that jelly beans don't usually taste like that, they were not bad. I was more or less ambivalent on flavors like soap and grass and could not bring myself to taste the body waste flavors.

Saw a case of this at Target on clearance so I picked it up. I guess this year they're not going to go for $100 a bottle like they did the inagural year. This year there's five flavors of soda, Cranberry, Pumpkin Pie, Turkey and Gravy, Stuffing, and Brussel Sprouts. Has anyone tried these yet? The case hasn't been opened yet...

Ha, I've been banned also. And crash already covered all three of the things that I was gonna say. (What TLCfan and KingLUKE22 said and KikiMets staying.) Oh, a fourth thing too... go Slinky! ;D

I just heard that Teddybears song this week. Or rather, I'd been hearing it for a while now (on commercials for Heineken), I just didn't know what it was. But I was disappointed to find out it was the one with the "bawitdaba" chorus. When I heard it on the commercial, I thought it was specially written for Heineken, brainstormed by out-of-touch fifty-something ad execs who thought using "bawitdaba" would be "hip". All that said, the song is not that bad, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Are you sure you're not thinking of "Cobrastyle" by the Teddybears ft. Mad Cobra? That one sounds badwitdaba-ish and is mildly annoying. It sounds like it samples "Good Things" by the Fine Young Cannibals. "Punkrocker" is much better.

I finally caved in and started buying CDs again. I looked at my CD rack and saw a lot of really, really, old stuff. Despite iTunes, soulseek, the library, and all that, I decided I need to make my CD rack somewhat representative of my current tastes. Plus it seems you can get just about any CD for under $10 with the right timing: Circuit City always has their $9.99 Labor Day and Memorial Day sales, Target has extended sales, and you can find good deals at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Here's what I got the past few weeks:
Air - Pocket Symphony Bloc Party - A Weekend in the City Erasure - Light at the End of the World Feist - The Reminder Peter Bjorn & John - Writers Block (2CD) Rocco DeLuca & the Burden - I Trust You to Kill Me Teddybears - Soft Machine

I hit Tower Sports Arena one last time. Today was their last day and everything was $1, if you bought 20 or more they went down to $0.50. They did a good job liquidating; I want to say it looked like by this point 90% of the stuff was gone. And what was left was going fast; they were being raped by everyone there including me. What I was did and go through and see if there was anything I thought was worth $1 or more and then once I hit 10 I just started pulling ten more off the shelves that looked interesting. What I came up with:
The first ten: Embrace - This New Day Matthew Ryan - Regret Over the Wires Mindy Smith - Long Island Shores Jackie Greene - American Myth Jeb Loy Nichols - Now Then KCRW Alive & Rare (Compilation) Run Run Run - Endless Winter SouthFM - Swallowing the Pill Tina Dico - In the Red William Topley - Feasting With Panthers
The next ten: (all from the Six Degrees label except When in Rome) Bob Holroyd - Without Within Cibelle - The Shine of Dried Electric Leaves Euphoria - Beautiful My Child Festival of Light (Compilation) Festival of Light II (Compilation) Karsh Kale - Broken English Recline (Compilation) Traveler '00 (Compilation) Traveler '02 (Compilation) When in Rome
Total impulse day, and the entire damage was $10.78 including tax.
Tower Sports Arena... there went San Diego's best record store as of 6 PM today. The La Jolla one is still open till next Wed. or Thurs. so I might have to go up there one last time before they, too, are history.

Everywhere? I may have to make the 40-mile drive to Ann Arbor if that's the case. Yeah, all the ones in the US are being liquidated. Sunday is the last day for both of the ones here. I'm not sure if they all have the exact same timeline, but all of them are supposed to be gone before 07.

Anyone been to Tower Records lately? They're going out of business and now they're 70% off. They started at like 10% off and went down 5% increments and then 10% increments once they hit 30% off. They were still a bad deal until they got to 30% off, then they didn't start being a good deal until they hit 40-50% off. I think this is their last week. I've been there a bunch of times in the past month and probably spent about $100 total, as of yet. 30% off: Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau - Metheny/Mehldau 40% off: Dirty Vegas - One SubZero: The Essential Chillout Collection 2 CD (from WaterMusic, my fav. electronic label) 10: A Decade of Om 3 CD (from Om, my other fav. electronic label) 50% off: Erasure - Union St. Alexi Murdoch - Time Without Consequence David Gray - Alibi (single) 60% off: Camiel - Sunset The Damnwells - Air Stereo Bruce Cockburn - Life Short Call Now Zuco103 - Whaa!* Torch* Asian Travels* * = $3 each special during 60% off week 70% off: Steve Oliver - Radiant Breaks CoOp - The Sound Inside They'll probably go down to 80% off one of these days, when I might have to make one final trip. Oh, they also have back-issues of R&R for like 33 cents each. Sadly, no year-end ones.

It's Triple A live sampler season and I have four sitting right here on my countertop, all the west coast ones. KMTT/Seattle #11, KINK/Portland #8, KFOG/San Francisco #12, and the station I don't listen to anymore due to playing "Sk8er Boi," KPRI/San Diego #3 acquired today from Borders downtown. Coming in the mail sooner or later will be the ones from KGSR/Austin #13, WBOS/Boston #3 and WXRT/s***cago #8. The others aren't available by mail, but my sister is picking me up WMMM/Madison #5. The tracklisting of KTCZ/Minneapolis #17 doesn't make me too sad that I probably won't be able to get it, and I'm mad that I can't get KCBO/Denver #17. Anyone in Denver wanna pick it up for me? I'll pay you, of course. I don't think I'll be picking up either of the Hot AC ones (KLLC/San Francisco and KYSR/Los Angeles) unless I find money to burn because I do not need two CDs with live performances of "Lonely No More," "She Will Be Loved," or "Lady." This year it looks like the best one is KINK's with live versions of three of my #1s, "Gonna Be Some Changes Made," "Life Less Ordinary," and "Run," though I am looking forward to WXRT's because it has a live version of "Fascination Street."

They're not worth it for me because I make my own "energy drinks" at work for free. A pump of vanilla, a dash of 1/2+1/2, and two shots of espresso straight from the machine.
I liked those Sobe and Snapple Elements new-age beverages that they used to have all over the place, which had like 0.01% trendy health additives and with all the sugar and whatnot they probably did more harm than good to your system anyway, but now they have taken on the status as trademark gas station drinks.

Well, has anyone ever been to Taco Del Mar? I ordered a chicken quesadilla there once, and that's what I'd call "dog food", or at least something approximating it. Yeah, I went there all the time last summer because they had the best fish tacos IMO in Seattle. I haven't gotten anything else from them though. I've only seen one of them here, but all the other places totally blow it out of the water.

I am the one who picked "Its dog food". Aside from the obvious, which is that about 90% of fast food restaurants (including Subway) are dog food anyway, they are more expensive than many of the real Mexican restaurants here, which use better and more ingredients and in addition have fish tacos which is something T. Bell does not.

It's probably the ice machine's fault. Ours has been acting up ever since I started working. It doesn't spit out ice cubes... it spits out ice blocks which are made up of about 60 ice cubes that are stuck together and try as we may to bash them, they don't always come apart correctly, and there's still a few that stick in the blender even when putting it though 6 times. We got it fixed twice and each time within a week it went back to making horrible ice.
BTW... They have Creme Brule Frappucinos/Lattes in Hawaii and Japan now and coming next summer is Banana Frappucinos.

Yeah, that's right. I remember hearing that they introduced Maple in Canada in the northeast, totally forgot about that. Everywhere else doesn't have it yet... Most of them were seasonal, but since many of them the only thing they added was syrup, they can still make them (i.e. Toffee Nut). Sadly, they can't make either of the fruit mocha chips, the mint mocha chip once the mint syrup runs out, any of the Tiazzi/Tazoberrys, or the Coconut ones.

What is your favorite menu Frappucino? I think I got all the ones that have been listed at some time or other in the past few years. The Tazo/Tiazzi & Creme are included in the plain Tazo/Tiazzi ones because I was about to run out of space. My favorite by a hair is the Peaches & Creme Tiazzi from many years back. I'm so mad they got rid of that and my next favorite, the Raspberry Mocha Chip Frappucino. The Chocolate Brownie Frappucino with Raspberry syrup just wasn't the same. Don't even think about putting a write-in for any Frappucino Light.

Ever had an experience with bad customers where you work? Or just ones you've seen? Yesterday, I was making some people's drinks who just ordered when this new lady walks in and the barista at register takes her order. Then about twenty seconds later, as he finishes taking her order I begin calling out the drinks I just made for the previous person and start working on hers. She comes up, picks up the drinks I set out for the other person, and is all like "this isn't what I ordered! This isn't correct! You should have made a..." blah blah blah.
Stupid bitch. Do you ever stop to think that there are other people in this world besides you. Oh, if only we were allowed to tell customers off...
