I'm sure most of you remember vdawg69 from the R&R boards -- the, um, big *NSYNC fan. But anyway, I was enjoying the first night of digital cable here at the house (I finally get more than two video channels. ) when I came up on The Science Channel. They were showing this hour-long show/documentary on baseball statistics, sabermetrics, things like that. They had Bill James talk about his best players of all time by position, for one. But during the last 5-10 minutes of the show, they had a segment about an organization (forget the name of it) whose employees watch every baseball game on TV and record data about every play for sabermetric purposes. They show a couple of people talking about what they do, and one of them's name is Jon Vrecsics. Now, I'm thinking, "Hmmm... have I seen that name before? Oh, wait! That must be vdawg!" I suppose there could be more than one Jon Vrecsics in this country, but the guy being interviewed looked like he was in his 20s, so there's probably a real good chance it's him. (I don't remember from his posts whether or not he was a baseball fan, but I'm sure it's possible.) If anyone has the channel themselves and wants to watch, the show airs again at 4am and 10am Tuesday morning, and at 2pm Tuesday afternoon (times are all Eastern time).

So he's one of the guys behind all those incredibly specific and tedious baseball stats the announcers read off during opportune times of ball games? (I assume that's what "sabermetrics" gets at. ) Wow. That's kind of a cool job, I guess. Eh, I wouldn't mind getting paid to enjoy baseball (again). That's wild stuff. [/Johnny Carson]

It just occurred to me that he was a huge fan of the Yankees. Totally forgot up until now. I didn't see him as being this baseball fanatic, though. But yeah, I'd love to have his job.

Now everyone from R&R and M4B can stop worrying that he's not dead after all.

Well, I never thought there really was anything wrong, but you have to admit it's kind of odd for someone to go from thousands of posts per month to nothing ever again.

That's not him. Jon was blonde, looked kinda modelish and definately looked gay (not queeny but he had a gay nose, LOL).

I think it's him. The company is headquartered in Bethlehem, PA and vdawg was from nearby Allentown. It seems really unlikely someone else would be the same age, have the same name, and be located in the same place as the former Pulse poster.

I think you can delete Tom, if you're so inclined. But that's ponderous that Jon clearly uses his page and doesn't have a single friend. What's the point?
