2nd single from "Rebel, Sweetheart." It seems most Wallflowers songs are either extremely bland or extremely good; fortunately this is of the latter variety. It's slow and melancholy a la "Closer to You," so I can see how some people would find it boring. While it's easily the best song on the album IMO, it wasn't the best choice for a single, which is probably why it stalled in the 20s on AAA instead of going straight into the Top 10 like "Beautiful Side of Somewhere." Likewise, I doubt this will make the lower rungs of the Hot AC chart like most of their recent singles have.

Either that or "This is My Song!" would have been a better single. Sadly it looks like this album's done.

This is picking up steam on AAA again after charting for a week but falling off. It's one of those songs that's slow but not boring & the only song I've heard with a Popeye reference. They're following the upbeat-upbeat-ballad pattern that usually seems to work well except that IMO they waited way too long to release this one and as a result it's been very slow to pick up. I can see this as a slow builder though.

I haven't much cared for any of her previous singles but KPRI just added this and I must say upon first listen I'm impressed. Doesn't sound too different, but very much diggin' the minor key. Suits her bluesy-pop-rock sound well. I didn't catch all the lyrics, but my ears perked up at "don't say you'll change after the next time" and "20 years in state will change your mind"... is this about domestic abuse?

I don't think we need one yet. The board still needs to pick up some more before we start splitting off.

Is this an official single? A bunch of stations has picked up on it. This could be the #1 AC song of 2008...

None of her songs appear to have a single spin at AC right now, which is really surprising to me, especially when you consider that songs like "Irreplaceable" have somehow made the top 10 (?!?!) there. You're forgetting something... her songs aren't 16 months old yet.

My first thought... it's much better than "Steady." My second thought... it's getting annoying as quickly as "Steady" did.

I like "These Things" better too, but I think it was a smart move to release "Tear You Apart" first. It was more likely to get people talking, as well as it was more Bauhaus-sounding which gives it alt. snob appeal. Now that people know about them, releasing "These Things" could do wonders. FM 94.9 added it last month.
At the gym the other day they played an album track, "Broken Promises for Broken Hearts"... which is the only time I remember hearing a non-single on their sound system.

I think it'd be nice to have access to a radio station that's almost completely uninfluenced by humans. Jack, anyone? Although most Jacks could probably stand to have about five to ten times more songs in rotation than they do. The one here has about 2500, and I was skeptical at first but I kinda like it. I keep on hearing a bunch of songs that I haven't heard since I started listening to the radio in '93 and a bunch more that I didn't even know exist.

You mean "Something Good"? *sigh* I miss 92.7 WLIR. They had an Alternative-without-the-grunge format going from 2000-2002. Not that I even mind grunge, it's just that this mix sounded so much fresher. Yep, you're right, it is Something Good. I heard WLIR a few years ago while driving through Long Island. It had one of the best playlists ever, but they really needed to get over the fact that they're world famous... like they made a point to mention that whenever they talked and during all their sweepers and that got old quickly.

I haven't noticed stations here doing this right now, but a few months ago, when 91X seceded from Clear Channel, they went jockless and ran through much of their playlist A-Z. They played a ton of stuff that was so weird to hear on an alternative station -- Simple Minds, Erasure, Duran Duran, Peter Gabriel, Enya even. They played the hits and some more obscure tracks, and even threw in "Rather Good" by the Utah Saints and "I Touch Myself."

Has anyone heard these guys? They're from Norway, but unlike Maria Mena they're actually good. They get extra points for liking New Order enough to remake "Blue Monday" on their first album and "True Faith" on their second. I first heard of them on Ultra Chilled 03, which had the remake of "Blue Monday." I took a chance on the second CD because Borders gave me a coupon for 25% off (and it's not on a major label so it's safe from my current CD boycott) and was fairly impressed. It's not one of my all-time favorites or anything, but it's very listenable psychedelic Scandanavian pop a la Andreas Johnson or Royksopp. I couldn't find samples of their music on their website, but tower.com has 30 sec clips, if anyone's interested: www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=3091908 (Morning Star, 2nd album) www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=2729167 (Ultra Chilled 03, since I couldn't find their 1st album there)

The latest single from X&Y. First impression is that it's more tolerable than "Fix You," but like "Speed of Sound" (which has yet to and still sits at a B-), this could end up either way. It has kind of the same sound as "Yellow," "In My Place," and the latter half of "Speed of Sound," but unlike those songs, in this song it doesn't sound like an animal stuck in the spokes of a bicycle. For some reason his voice especially irritates me here, where it hasn't really before. I could see myself digging this (or really hating this), though.

Some dude discovered an old Marley tape from 1979 and sent it to radio. The selling point, apparently, is that it was recorded with a guitar, a drum machine, and then Eric Clapton did some work on it too. I'm not a fan though, probably because this sounds exactly like almost everything else from Bob, and I'm not a big fan of that sound to begin with.

2) This isn't 1956; you don't release a cover of a song that only finished up a little while ago. Unless the White Stripes are involved, apparently. (I remember thinking Joss Stone's cover of "Fell in Love With a Girl/Boy" was cheap, even though I was rooting for it.)

"Stan" was about 6 minutes, even the radio edit, and that made the Top 40, so this one could easily if they tried. Besides, "Stan" wasn't even all that pop-friendly IMO. (I don't own the CD, btw. )

It's probably my favorite track off his two albums that were released at the same time. (I don't have the one that it's on, but I have the other one.) WGVX in Minneapolis played this for awhile.

Yeah, and in addition to their signature sound it also has what seems to be their signature style: cool slightly different-sounding intro and the verses and chorus stacked up just like they always are. But I've finally gotten over "Down" (though I still despise it) and am really starting to get into this band from Omah-I mean, Orange County, so it's nice that they have a single that both the alternative stations here are playing.

I'm so excited that they're back! At first I thought that this sounded like something that could be on most of Depeche Mode's previous albums but then I realized that wasn't such a bad thing.
It's already Top 30 on Alt. and getting significant Hot AC and AAA airplay. Could it cross over to pop? They haven't had a Top 40 hit since '93 (Though "It's No Good" managed to scrape the Top 50 in '97.) It's radio friendly and with lines like "things get damaged/things get broken" it's not dense enough to give any pophead a cerebral hemorrhage.
The only thing is, while I'm happy that they're relatively successful with this I'm mad that this is doing something whereas "Krafty" by New Order did nothing.

Nothing at all happened in my area, no fire, no smoke, no ash, just the sky was unusually grey. But there was a bizarre feeling in the air. It's so strange, because I know just half an hour away peoples' homes burned up.
