Congrats on Rutgers-Newark acceptance and welcome back to the east coast. You wanna trade places? LOL! I'm curious to know as to why you chose the Rutgers-Newark campus instead of the main campus in New Brunswick. If you follow US News rankings, the New Brunswick campus is ranked significantly higher than the Newark campus. I would guess that has to do in terms of graduation rates because there are probably more nontraditional students at Newark as opposed to the campus in New Brunswick. I'm sure the academic rigor would be no different, since it is all the same Rutgers system. Furthermore, Newark can be a rather dicey town. It has a reputation for being dangerous. So like my girls TLC said, "Don't go chasing waterfalls." I was in Newark a few weeks ago and some areas are okay like North Newark, the downtown area where Rutgers-Newark is located and the Ironbound community is pretty safe but other areas can be perceived as rather sketchy. Newark's mayor Cory Booker has been doing a great job with the overall progress city, his predecessor Sharpe James was in office for many terms and left the city to ruin. Ironically, James was found guilty of fraud and will be sentenced to prison on July 29th. www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/04/newark_ex_mayor_sharpe_james_convicted.htmlSo the city has a history of political corruption and crime. Welcome to Newark! I don't mean to be a pessimist, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I remember watching the video many mornings before heading off to school during freshman year of high school. I used to love this song. In fact, I enjoyed the whole grunge era. Eddie Vedder is the man. I wonder what he is up to now. Fill me in on the details, because I don't keep up with the contemporary Alternative tracks like I want to. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SPMfr38fCA

1. Unfaithful A- 2. Break It Off A+ (Too bad a video was never released) 3. Pon De Replay A++ (I loved the fusion of reggae/soca with the pop -- she should have maintained this style, I heard the track on Caribbean programming at my local Urban station last night) 4. If It' Lovin' That You Want A- 5. Shut Up and Drive B- (too commercial) 6. Don't Stop the Music A 7. S.O.S. A- 8. Umbrella A- 9. We Ride A- (I actually liked this song, wasn't bad at all - lack of promo killed this song) 10. Hate That I Love You C+ (her worst, I found it a little boring) 11. Take A Bow A- (I like it better now)

Great followup to "Bleeding Love." Leona happens to be #1 on VH1 Top 20 countdown this week with "Better In Time." I'm curious to see if she'll suffer the Donna Lewis syndrome that was talked about in previous posts. I hope not! www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r1NVuI8S-Q&feature=related

I really really really love this song. This is surprising because I don't fit the mold of a typical Miley Cyrus fan. But somehow, I just find her music listenable in my own little world I guess. (Being a teacher, makes me a bit tolerant to the type of music that youngsters enjoy I guess) I just find it to be fun loving catchy pop stuff to bop your head along to. Unfortunately this is faltering on the charts.

This track features rapper T.I. The line "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" sounds rather familiar. When the single was first released, I had an instant hunch that the line was taken from the 89' hit of rap group 2 Live Crew, "Me So Horny." The line mentions, "Oh, so horny....Ohh, so horny....Ohh, so horny. Me love you long time" Mariah is a sly one. Nevertheless, great song. She's undoubtedbly beautiful looking in the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruyKqhSidyw

Who would've thunk Kid Rock having another pop hit in 2008? I thought he was done after the Sheryl Crow joint. LOL! I always seem to catch the track on VH1. I dig it a lot. It has the American signature sound alright. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwIGZLjugKA

I admit that I really liked Rihanna a lot more when she first started out and was true to her Caribbean roots. Her image and flair was captivating. I thought she was so unique. But now they have made her so commercial, mechanical and desperate to make hits for the masses. It is rather disappointing.
I used to think songs like "Pon De Replay" and "If It's Lovin' That You Want" were so charming. It captured the "real" Rihanna. Eventhough I still respect Rihanna's role in the industry, I don't really like what she has become. In my mind, she's a sell out. I don't like to use that term for seemingly aspiring artists who want to explore different genres, but she didn't have to revamp her image so drastically.

Wow, I would've never guessed a top 5 hit on the Hot 100 and on the Pop Chart with the single. Congrats to Natasha.
For a moment there, I thought she would be top 20 at best. I'm thrilled that she went this far with "Pocket..."

The hook is rather riveting. The vocals are haunting. Varying ranges and emotions are showcased throughout coupled with a semi-upbeat instrumental capturing moments of "crisis" and questioning. Should be another winning single for Rihanna. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR-7_AcNo7A

I've seen numerous subway ads here in NYC advertising the new Coldplay song. Ah, I get it now, segments of storybook time to be programmed during mainstream airplay. Interesting concept, that ought to sustain the Miley Cyrus listeners for sure. On a side note, I am wondering if the group are practicing Catholics. Harmless single though, not bad. An imaginative video has been created, not yet released in the US, I believe. Hopefully they'll include Disney viewers in the marketing ploy when a DVD version is made. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG7nxbC2GAo&feature=related

If she gets #1, then I personally feel radio done it to only showcase the "eye opening" lyrics of lesbianism the song suggests. You mean faux-lesbianism. Yes, thank you for the correction of the appropriate terminology describing the lyrics of the song (a la "Girls Gone Wild." LOL!).

This song is bugging the crap out of me. I wasn't too minding much of a lower end top 10 peak, but now this s*** is getting out of hand in my mind.
If she gets #1, then I personally feel radio done it to only showcase the "eye opening" lyrics of lesbianism the song suggests. The song is nothing to write home about. It has a sucky, unlikeable and sinister overtone to it. Such a talentless yet commercialized piece of work. I get bloated when I catch it on the radio.

I was just about to post a topic for this song. It's a nice song, I really like it. I caught her performing the song on "The View" yesterday and she seemed like she couldn't hear herself during the performance and was straining a bit. The background music was drowning out her voice. (I am curious to know how has the single become record breaking according to co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck) www.popcrunch.com/jessica-simpson-the-view-video-come-on-over-performance/But I'm surprised that the single doesn't sound all that twangy, maybe it was made with the slightest hope of the track gaining pop attention. However, I do believe Jessica is natural for Country.

Besides, I think the lyrics are what really make "Bleeding Love" so great; if it had just been another generic Celine Dion-esque love song, there's no way it'd be achieving this level of success. Well if "Bleeding Love" is a masterpiece lyrically then Flo Rida f/ T-Pain's "Low" lyrics must also be a strong piece of lyrical work. LOL! And low and behold, both tracks turned out to be #1 singles.

It matters due to any individual's examination of chart data of Donna Lewis' career as a music artist. It is possible for someone to assess a song like ILYAF and draw comparisons with Donna's successive singles to know that the first track was probably rated too highly (Considering her "artistry" on a whole).
Donna has had ILYAF for 12 weeks at #1, then "Without Love" which peaked at #17 for three weeks. That's a big difference, plus Donna has had no significant top 40 radio airplay hits after that. One would wonder as to WHY the first track had quite that longevity. (Especially with ILYAF spending ALL of them weeks atop of the charts) Airplay records are signs of approval ratings from the radio stations. But history is history and you can't change what has happened. It is possible to judge an artist for what their worth through their song's individual creativeness and/OR through examining a particular song's chart history and comparing it to the chart performance of the other songs by the artist.
Besides, ILYAF only hit #1 in America, she didn't manage to have a #1 in any other country. Leona's "Bleeding Love" has hit #1 in multiple countries. Her big voice a la Whitney and Mariah-esque style suggests that she may be long term. And we all know Whitney and Mariah's captivating voice scored them multiple #1's and top 10 hits. So Leona's longevity at the top seems warranted.
It is also quite fine for ILYAF or any other of Donna's songs to play at the Mall of America of something and I'm a proud American so more power to her. Like I said I never disliked her only #1 song if you want to get emotional about it. But ILYAF is an overrated hit when you look at chart data, no matter which angle you want to put it. Donna has had no hits to measure up to the success of ILYAF period. Therefore her artistical status could be in question.

I really liked "I Love You Always Forever" back in the day, but come on now, I can admit that the song was overrated. She was just a one hit wonder and no sizable follow up hits. I think "Bleeding Love" was sung with more passion than the Donna Lewis song. It actually sounds like a hit. I wouldn't mind her breaking Donna's record. Leona has more potential of being a long term diva.
Does anyone know the run of Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" at the top of the pop charts? Now that song is also superior than "I Love You Always Forever" by miles.

Finally we get a Canadian rapper (Jamaican descent - my other nationality lol) crossing over to the American charts. I'm sure Akon helped him out with that. Nice track to bop along and catchy! Not overly obnoxious either, just chill. My kind of vibe. I can't stop watching this video, I'm lusting after the girl featured in it. She is perfectly hot. Wow! www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFeaqB-AAMo

I always meant to create a topic about this track and I have always forgotten. This song is really really "hood." LOL. Definitely a track for the streets. Heh. I love working out to this song at the gym. The sound effects and instrumentals are "iite." Rick Ross has skills. Tight rapping vocals. Once again T-Pain is my vocoder dude. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1lTVwjQZfU

Eventhough it is a song made for entertaining the masses. Singing and/or writing about the passing of a loved one(s) should never ever require rocket science, otherwise it is absolutely insensitive to the person (performer or writer) in sorrow. The song was based on the death of Mariah's father dedicated to fans who lost loved one. The content alone gets a free pass from me. Death can be a bit for someone to cope with as it is, don't you think? Who the heck am I to ever question the way someone should grieve?
I think Mariah, Johnta Austin and Stargate was going for a relatability factor. But, I do agree that the song is vocally too safe for Mariah which may explain why it hasn't done spectacular.
