A few times a year a song has a pretty eased move up mediabase only to my disgust. Sure there are songs I don't like, but these are songs that not only do I hate, but they're completely underserving of their slide. This is one of them. You can hear it here.62 42 KATY PERRY I Kissed A Girl 752 250 502 8.607 Don't forget this is the same artist who brought us the unbearable "Ur So Gay" that has the lyrical genius (sarcasm) chorus: "ur so gay and you don't even like boys, no you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like boys. Ur so gay and you don't even like boys." I just can't wait for radio stations across the nation to say "Mid-May Fools!"

I was hoping to be alleviated of the dumbed down cultural slide of the past 13 years and that this would actually be a hot Jill Sobule remake. No such luck. I heard, I guess, a piece of the chorus in the car yesterday and it was pretty awful. I switched it instantly because my friend was in the car and there was no reason for him to suffer too, just because I wanted to hear it for research purposes.

The only reason people even think they like this crap song is because of it's "titillating" (faux-)lesbian subject matter. So that makes it a f***ing novelty song and Katy Perry a future one-hit wonder. Why can't people just see the big picture and avoid promoting/buying into songs like this?

I smell payola and 'dykism'...lmfao...let me stop! This year's t.A.T.u. for you. Madonna isn't bringing the overtones of lesbianism anymore so someone else has to give it. LOL! It is a fad every now and then.

If this wasn't so damn gimmicky, it wouldn't actually be that bad.

It is a fad every now and then. Except t.A.T.u. was actually good. This is an improvement over "Ur So Gay" though, I'll give it that.

Yeah the song stinks, but, and I'll say this over there too, I don't see what the big shock is that this is actually charting on Alternative.
That t.A.t.U. song was a hell of a lot better because unlike this song, it actually had a perspective. But since t.A.t.U. winded up being nothing more than a self-confessed act, that song was ultimately pretty lame too, saved by the cute Russian accents which I fall for almost every time.

I finally heard this in full for the first time on Saturday. And for the second, third, fourth, and fifth times as well, all within about seven hours. Once on VH1, once on AT40, twice more on Kiss, and once on The End.
Yeah, there's nothing special to this. It's tawdry and not overtly challenging to listen to, and I'm sure a bunch of 13-year-olds who don't know any better might find themselves spending an extra few minutes in the shower as a result of hearing this song ad nauseum. But, you know what, I'm not really compelled to hate this song either. It's a harmless novelty song and as other have pointed out, I don't think we'll be hearing from her a year from now, unless she has some actual musical chops that she's just putting on the back burner for now. Plus, the music isn't really that intolerable either. If there's a song I can compare this to, I guess it'd be "Mambo No. 5," which I detested when it was out, but after a few years came around on, for the most part. Plus, I guess if you're a serious music fan, it's nice to have these songs come around that give you a little levity from the more serious and compelling music you're interested in. And that's what this song does for me.
Now, that being said, I just hope it won't have an undeservedly long run at #1 if it gets there (like, more than 4 weeks).
Oh, and as far as it charting on alternative... I mean, I guess I can see how a station would justify playing it, especially those more boorish ones with, say, afternoon talk shows consisting of sophomoric, brain-cell killing discussion (and sadly, I'm speaking from experience). But when I heard it on The End, it just felt out of place. It'd be like an alternative station playing someone like Michelle Branch or Sara Bareilles. Yeah, you can make the argument, and I probably wouldn't mind hearing those two there, but ultimately, I just think the stuff belongs on pop, and not alternative. (Actually, now that I think about it, if Natalie Imbruglia was good enough for the format in 1998, then no reason why Sara Bareilles shouldn't have been good enough in 2008.)
And now that this has immersed itself onto radio, I really oughta go on Youtube and hunt down that Jill Sobule song.

I always thought "Are You Happy Now?" could have received some alternative play. Heck, even some Avril. Alternative doesn't need to always be so testosterone filled.

My station played an album cut from Let Go, "Unwanted", quite a bit. It's probably the best song I've heard her from her too.

This song is bugging the crap out of me. I wasn't too minding much of a lower end top 10 peak, but now this s*** is getting out of hand in my mind.
If she gets #1, then I personally feel radio done it to only showcase the "eye opening" lyrics of lesbianism the song suggests. The song is nothing to write home about. It has a sucky, unlikeable and sinister overtone to it. Such a talentless yet commercialized piece of work. I get bloated when I catch it on the radio.

I rolled my eyes when I read she was coming to Warped Tour and it cemented my disinterest to go for 2008 (at least when it came to south TX). I mean, Gym Class Heroes and Against Me! would probably be worthwhile, and to a lesser extent maybe Paramore, but nothing else really exciting was on the bill.

Yeah, I could accept this getting airplay on alternative stations, but when the DJ on The End said she was added to The Warped Tour, that just took the cake. I mean, either the rest of her stuff is more rock than I'm giving her credit for, or they were desperate to fill out their slate of performers.

Nice to see Chris Brown on his way to further block this from #1.

I didn't realize that "I Kissed A Girl" is spending a sixth week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I am starting to like the darn song now...ugh...

I guess since apparently she's currently Travis McCoy's muse, that gives the reason to had put her on the bill. That being said I don't actually hate this song that much. I like the dance remix I heard a bit more, though.

And apparently she also appeared in the "Cupid's Chokehold" video as Travis's girlfriend at the end. At least her Warped Tour appearance makes sense (granted, not much more) knowing that information.
