The new 92.3, alas, was too good to last. It's Chinese pop now. What we'd been hearing on air was www.savealternative.com. Apparently they stepped in and asked to broadcast while Principle got their act together. Still, at least we got them for two weeks. They're still broadcasting online and on 104.9 HD-2. Oh yeah, and we started a petition to get them back on the air. (This was partially in response to the idiotic "Save Channel 92.3" petition that popped up after SaveAlternative took over.) We almost have as many signatures as the Save Channel petition now! LOL!: www.change.org/petitions/save-savealternative-on-923#?opt_new=t&opt_fb=tIs Chinese Pop just as horrifying to listen to as J-pop and K-pop? Not really. They don't try as hard = less horrifying, more bland.

Pop Bruno Mars- Grenade F (I'd catch a grenade for you, I'd slice myself with a blade for you, I'd cross my heart & hope to die & stew & fry for you, I'd pour gasoline on myself and light myself on fire for you, blah blah blah yadi yada but you won't do any of this for me...Oh, go cry me a f**king river, Bruno Mars. Who knew that something this bland could be so pretentious and self-serving.)Katy Perry- Firework F (Nope. Still no better.)Enrique Iglesias f/ Ludacris- Tonight (I'm F**king You) F (Why "I Like It" gets blocked from the top spot, by Katy Perry of all people, but this gets #1...the world may never know. If you're going to something like this too, at least make the radio edit make sense.)Kesha- We R Who We R F- (Wow, the top four and we're not even out of red letter territory yet. This insulting piece of garbage needs to crawl into a blender and DIE)Britney Spears- Hold It Against Me C+ (And leave it to a Britney Spears song to save the day. I coulda sworn that she's released this a few times before, but whatever.)Rihanna- What?s My Name D-Chris Brown- Yeah 3x F Far East Movement f/ Ryan Tedder- Rocketeer B+ (Disclaimer: I haven't paid attention to the rap yet, but after reading Sunny's comment I'm not sure if I want to or not.)Pink- Raise Your Glass F- Pink- F**kin? Perfect C+ She really isn't that bad when she tries to be serious, and of course has to go and dock herself 2/3 of a grade for the stupid title.)Taylor Swift- Back to December C- (By default. I still can't tell the difference between anything from her, Miley Cyrus, or Angel Taylor. They might as well be the same person...and maybe they are )Pitbull- Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor) nh/dr Taio Cruz f/ Travie McCoy- Higher nh/dr Nelly- Just a Dream BDiddy-Dirty Money f/ Skylar Grey- Coming Home nh/dr Usher- More C+Wiz Khalifa- Black & Yellow C-Cee Lo Green- F**k You D- (& why the hell is this experiencing a resurgence now on any chart except for UrbanAlternative. Everyone knew he was nominated a few months ago, and it's not like he won any of the others.)Avril Lavigne- What the Hell F- (The latest in "self-explanatory" titles...and is she trying to cancel out "Don't Tell Me" or something?)Edward Maya- Stereo Love A Black Eyed Peas- The Time (Dirty Bit) F- Flo Rida f/ Akon- Who Dat Girl C- (I guess)Christina Perri- Jar of Hearts F (Completely agree with all of the comments about how stupid these images and metaphors are. Her voice sucks too.)Kesha- Blow DLinkin Park- Waiting for the End BRihanna- S&M D- (Wtf.)Trey Songz f/ Nicki Minaj- Bottoms Up F (I tried to give Nicki Minaj a fair chance, but it's gotten to the point where anything that she's featured on...or does by herself for that matter...gets stamped with an automatic F.)Waka Flocka Flame- No Hands D (And what, pray tell me, is a "Waka Flocka Flame"? Is it a new improved version of a "Wiz Khalifa"? )Train- Marry Me F Plain White T?s- Rhythm of Love D-Sick Puppies- Maybe C-Keri Hilson- Pretty Girl Rock F ("Whats yo' name? My name is Keri and I'm very _______ " Proceed to think of a bunch of words that rhyme with "airy" that don't really make sense, and there's your song. She earned a chance with "Knock You Down" & here she goes trying to blow it again.)Script- For the First Time C- (The idea and sound of the song aren't bad, but the premise is clumsily worded & executed.)Justin Bieber f/ Jaden Smith- Never Say Never F Dev f/ Cataracs- Bass Down Low F (What the hell is this s***.?!) David Guetta f/ Rihanna- Who?s that Chick D- (David Guetta did NOT have to sell out, although he already arguably did that with "Sexy Chick".)Jessie J f/ B.O.B.- Price Tag nh/dr Miranda Cosgrove- Dancing Crazy nh/dr Mann- Buzzin F (Well, I guess it was only a matter of time that that Nu Shooz song got sampled, and not unpredictably with a "song" as horrid as this.)My Chemical Romance- Sing BNelly f/ Kelly Rowland- Gone F & . ("Dilemma" did NOT need to be released even once, let alone twice. The only reason there's no minus is because it lacks "O"s. Still garbage though.)Kanye West- All of the Lights C- (I wish he would've gotten two other people besides Rihanna & Drake.)Tinie Tempah f/ Eric Turner- Written in the Stars C+ (Hot Paul Weller remake!)30 Seconds to Mars- Closer to the Edge A- (This is on here? Then again, I guess it doesn't belong here any more/less than "The Kill" and that song should not be30STM's sole pop hit.)Jeremih f/ 50 Cent- Down On Me nh/dwt Jennifer Lopez f/ Pitbull- On the Floor D- (I don't prefer her return.)Black Eyed Peas- Just Can?t Get Enough nh/dr The Rock Mafia featuring Miley Cyrus - The Big Bang B (Upon first listen. Color me shocked.)New Boyz f/ The Cataracs & Dev- Back Seat nh/dr Lifehouse- All In D (But I don't get what they were trying to do with the timing of this. It seems like it's been gone from Hot AC for like a year now...or maybe it's still on and that's just how Hot AC goes.)Alternative Cage the Elephant- Shake Me Down F (Where did these guys come from...and why don't they just go back there.)Black Keys- Tighten Up D (I unwillingly gave it 10000 listens & it only got worse.)Rise Against- Help is on the Way C-Mumford & Sons- The Cave C (Something about this makes me shake my head. Maybe it's because it's intentionally overproduced to sound intentionally underproduced, or maybe I'm still not over that lame attempt candidly placed f-bomb from their previous track to earn alternative cred. In any case, they have better songs than this one & that one.) Middle Class Rut- New Low B+ (Still depressing as hell, though.)Cake- Sick of You D+ (Yawn. I liked it better when it was called "Rock & Roll Lifestyle")Florence + The Machine- Dog Days Are over F Muse- Undisclosed Desires A- Young the Giant- My Body BNeon Trees- 1983 C- (This one burned out on me so quickly.)Social Distortion- Machine Gun Blues B+A Day to Remember- All I Want F+ Black Keys- Howlin? for You C+ (So far, but I have the feeling it'll go the same way of "Tighten Up." As an aside, I hope they don't release "Next Girl" next because that one's already an F.)Foster the People- Pumped Up Kicks B- (After being lukewarm on this to begin with & then finding out what this was about I tried not to like it. But then I realized...it works. It really works.)Atomic Tom- Take Me Out B+ (Great sound, but the lyrics need not be quite as staid.)Avenged Sevenfold- Welcome to the Family B-Kings of Leon- Pyro B+Shinedown- Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay-Boom) F (Ehh...no thanks.)Alter Bridge- Isolation nh/dr Crystal Castles f/ Robert Smith- Not in Love A+ (#21 for two weeks. This one so got robbed.)Disturbed- The Animal nh/dr Portugal. The Man- People Say F (I guess some people still aren't over the fact that he's not our president anymore... :Cold War Kids- Louder than Ever BHollywood Undead- Hear Me Now D+Airborne Toxic Event- Changing B- (A slight disappointment.)Awolnation- Sail D (Agree with Ethan, which is why I could never get into this despite numerous tries. Some songs can pull it off but this isn't one of them.)Decemberists- This is Why We Fight BArcade Fire- We Used to Wait A Paper Tongues- Get Higher C- (Maybe room to grow, but we'll see. I finally start getting into their first two singles, and then they release this which sounds like a cover of Marc Anthony - "You Sang To Me." Not sure how I feel about that.)Stone Sour- Hesitate DJimmy Eat World- Coffee and Cigarettes B+ (I appreciate the message more than the song itself.)3 Doors Down- When You?re Young nh/dr Five Finger Death Punch- Far From Home nh/dr OK Go- White Knuckles A- (Funny thing is, I loved this at first, and now the more I hear it, the less I remember what it sounds like. Maybe I just lost interest after their lackluster concert.)Broken Bells- Ghost Inside F Naked and Famous- Young Blood A- Hugo- 99 Problems F (This isn't one of Jay-Z's better songs to begin with, but Hugo adds nothing to it & only makes it more annoying. This isn't bluegrass, but rather some moron trying to figure out what bluegrass sounds like.)Switchfoot- Bullet Soul nh/dr Panic at the Disco- The Ballad of Mona Lisa CPlan B- Stay Too Long C+ (Dug it at first for being different...but then I realized it wasn't that good.)Three Days Grace- Lost in You nh/dr Papa Roach- Burn nh/dr Fitz & the Tantrums- MoneyGrabber B+ (It seems like this song's been between 40-50 even since before the XX debuted.)All That Remains- Hold On nh/dr Sick Puppies- Riptide nh/dr Skillet- Awake and Alive nh/dr ACBruno Mars- Just the Way You Are BDaughtry- September B+Script- Breakeven B-Train- Hey, Soul Sister F Taylor Swift- Mine C-Sara Bareilles- King of Anything F- Michael Buble- Hollywood B+Katy Perry- Teenage Dream F- John Mayer- Half of My Heart B-Maroon 5- Misery D-Bon Jovi- What Do You Got CJosh Groban- Hidden Away nh/dr OneRepublic- Secrets CNeon Trees- Animal A-Taio Cruz- Dynamite B-Rihanna- Only Girl (In the World) DEnrique Iglesias f/ Pitbull- I Like It B+Seal- Secret B-Mike Posner- Cooler Than Me B+Usher f/ Pitbull- DJ Got Us Fallin? in Love B-^^^No comments because I'm sure that everything I needed to say about any of these songs, I've already said on the report cards from the past two years. Except Seal, but "Secret" is just too bland and typically Seal to say anything about. It's not even worth commenting anymore on what artsts like Taio Cruz, Rihanna, and Pitbull are doing on the AC chart.Hot AC Mumford & Sons- Little Lion Man C+ (Ok, I've "done my time" liking this. Back to C-range it goes.)Ryan Star- Start a Fire B+Adele- Rolling in the Deep B+Sugarland- Stuck Like Glue nh/dr Lee Dewyze- Sweet Serendipity D+Goo Goo Dolls- Notbroken nh/dr James Blunt- Stay the Night nh/dwt Sara Bareilles- Uncharted DMaroon 5- Never Gonna Leave This Bed C- (For whatever reason slightly more tolerable not that that's saying much than their previous two singles despite sounding exactly the same)Maroon 5- Give a Little More D-Andy Grammer- Keep Your Head Up nh/dr Colbie Caillat- I Do C (Yawn, but what's new.)Triple A Decemberists- Down by the Water C+ (Not one of their better singles.)Ray Lamontagne & Pariah Dogs- For the Summer C (Well, I guess he's here for good...better get used to it.)Kings of Leon- Radioactive B (LOL @ this still being on here. AAA is become to Alternative what AC is to Pop.)Amos Lee- Windows Are Rolled Down BMichael Franti & Spearhead- Hey Hey Hey A- R.E.M.- Mine Smell Like Honey F (UGH. Are they purposely trying to turn themselves into has-beens? Why they chose to release this whiny, nasal, energy-less, lackadaisical, and stupidly-titled song as their lead single is beyond me.Tired Pony- Dead American Writers A Robert Plant- You Can?t Buy My Love C- (I would really have no idea this is a new song and/or who it's by. It sounds like a bland mixture of every single song that every single AAA radio station has ever played.)One Eskimo- Amazing B+Grace Potter & The Nocturnals- Paris (Ooh La La) D+ (Not feelin' her when she tries to rock this hard.)Iron and Wine- Tree by the River BArcade Fire- Modern Man B- (Their Alt. singles are better, this time around.)Jack Johnson- From the Clouds BElton John/Leon Russell- Hey Ahab nh/dr Avett Brothers- Kick Drum Heart B+Old 97?s- Every Night is Friday Night BAlpha Rev- Phoenix Burn nh/dr G Love- Fixin? to Die BSheryl Crow- Long Road Home nh/dwt

They lasted a few more months than I thought they would (and actually improved quite a bit from that time, although that's not saying much) but Channel 92.3's new owners finally took over. But they're not Spanish! Not yet, anyway. They're still alternative, and MUCH better than before -- in fact, they resemble what Channel 92.3 was back when they were still good! Overplayed 90s grunge & late 90s butt rock...gone! Gorillaz, Passion Pit, and White Lies have returned along with dozens of other hot new bands. "Flash Delerium" even made a return! Their playlist & top songs: www.yes.com/#KSJO (Monday at about 1:20 PM was when it officially flipped; the first new song was "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine.") We're not sure whether this is just stunting while Principle gets its act together, although it's damn good stunting if it is. Whatever the case, I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

It was hilarious how the Grammys handled "f*** You," but I was hoping it'd win something just to see if someone would have the balls to say the unbowdlerized title on-ai.r It actually won the Grammy for "Best Urban Alternative," which seems like a good category for it, although that also seems like one of those categories that doesn't get broadcasted on air...did anyone see it to confirm/deny this? & LMAO @ that video.

I'll third that. I thought for the most part they were well distributed too -- meaning no really big sweeps by any particular act in any of the categories I care about, esp. in the rock categories, so The Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck, Neil Young, Muse, Them Crooked Vultures, Black Keys all got their moment. And yeah, Arcade Fire taking record of the year was pretty awesome and well-deserved. I actually don't mind the excessive love for Lady Antebellum, since the rest of the nominees in record & song of the year were essentially nonsense. (I understand the appeal of "F**k You," but being nominated for music's top two awards, really? And "Love the Way You Lie" is no song of the year either.) For "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" I guess I'm satisfied that the lessest of five evils won. It was by far the weakest category IMO, it's like they cherry-picked the absolute worst 4 songs of the year song by females and then threw in a bland, uninspired Norah Jones track just because that's what the Grammys are supposed to do. Herbie Hancock winning best pop collaboration over all the rest of that garbage in the category was awesome. Almost as awesome as Esperanza Spalding, who nobody has ever heard of, beating out the atrocities known as Justin Bieber, Drake, and Florence + the Machine for best new artist. (And the Mumfords too, who I'm cool with but I still can't root for them as they rose to fame based on an out-of-place f-bomb.) There were only two major gripes I had: "Hey Soul Sister (Live)" winning anything, let alone Train winning anything in 2011 (although that's forgiveable since I wasn't too thrilled with the rest of that category) and Rihanna taking best dance recording. She is not dance.

I saw "The Ultimate Viral Video Concert" ( : last night: Atomic Tom w/ OK Go! Once the singer got ahold of his voice and decided to show no restraint (after about 1-2 songs), Atomic Tom rocked the house. No playing on iPods here (I've heard they do that with some concerts), but they didn't need to for an amazing show. OK Go, sadly, I wanted to like so badly but was less impressed with. Their music did not live up to their performance...meaning they upstaged themselves, and not in a good way. Their gimmicks were pretty f***ing awesome. They came onstage with fancy color-coordinated suits, pummeled (and I do mean pummeled) the entire club with confetti about a dozen times, and for their encore, they changed into jackets with electronic displays on back, first spelling out O K G O and then changing into happy and angry faces, and their guitars (one of which had a marquee which flashed words and sentences across) started glowing and shooting laser beams!!! Not surprising from the band that puts this kind of creativity into their videos: The only problem was...their music was just kinda...blaaaargh. White Knuckles was good, some song about Skyscrapers was good, they played a song entirely on handbells which was pretty rad (I think it was a different one than they usually do), and Here It Goes Again was decent. Everything else...not so much. They tried too hard to rock out and, with the exception of Here It Goes Again, every song they tried to do that with ended up sounding like garbage. I would like to see them go more in the direction of their funky/artsy songs (i.e. White Knuckles), or even better --and OK Go is probably the only band that this would actually work -- just stick to gimmicks. They'd probably make a pretty solid cover band too, but I doubt they'd go for that.

You listed "The High Road" and "The Ghost Inside" both being as last week's #37. Then you didn't list a last week's #34 which should have been "Little Secrets" by Passion Pit. LOL @ them wearing what they wear. And glad to see that AAA juggernaut with your highest debut.

--- 27-19 Pink "Raise Your Glass": With almost every listen, I raise the bar for where this stands on my favorite Pink singles. This might end up all the way at #2 after "Just Like a Pill". This is just so much better and more palatable than a song like "So What". Catchy without being annoying, obnoxious, or faux-rock. And it's got a good message. Pink, that's all I need from you! Are you sure you heard the right song?

And then I saw that there was an "International Processing Fee" of $75. f***. That. s***. So I just gave up on that, because I calculated that after all the fees, in total I would only save $16 over regular price, and I rarely ever buy anything from there at regular price anyway. I wish we they would branch out to Canada already. Holy $hit. $75?!?!? That's ridiculous!!! I bought a few things this weekend: Amazon's Lightning Sales: The Arcade Fire's (Friday, 5-9 AM PST) and LCD Soundsystem's (Saturday, 5-9 PM PST) latest for $5.99 apiece. They have a few others going on 'til Monday. Amazon and FAO: A bunch of Ugly Dolls. And, for spending $75 worth of toys at Amazon ( ) I got a free Amazon-branded Gund Bear! (The hat says "amazon.com". How cool is that!) Target: A weak sweater 'coz I needed a nightshirt for $4.88 and comforter for $18. It's getting cold! Borders: Well, technically I didn't buy this, I got a latte since they sent me a coupon for a free one. Couldn't complain about that. Streetlight Records (the closest thing to Tower these days, IMO): 25% off all used CDs. I got Channel 104.9's :-\ Stripped Down/Live vol. 1. (From 2003, before they moved down to 92.3, but I didn't even realize they had live CDs!) Mostly because it has a live version of "Dirty Sticky Floors" by Dave Gahan, but a few other tracks you don't see too often on CDs like these such as "The Saddest Song" by The Ataris and "Think Twice" by Eve 6. The latter, which I might add, was a fairly heavy recurrent up until mid-2010 (at which point it got replaced by "Inside Out." ) They also had a vol. 2 which I didn't get it since it was nowhere near as exciting. Places where I didn't buy things: (All at the mall, where I went mainly to look anyway) Gap: Was crap. Express: They had 40% off everything here too, except I don't really buy things for 40% off of list price at these types of places, I wait until they're on clearance for at least that first and then, on top of that do something like "an additional 40% off of clearance." That and the line zig-zagged and filled up the entire store. Guess: See above, except list price things were 20% off (oh yeah, because $120 is so much better than $150 for a pair of jeans : but clearance things were an add'l 50% off which made things slightly more reasonable. I still prefer their "G by Guess" stores to just plain "Guess" but that was at the outlet mall and I didn't feel like going over there too since there was nothing else there of interest. For some reason the entire store seemed to be filled with Asian exchange students. The line was equally as long as at Express too, though there was more space here. Levi's: Everything here that looked cool wasn't on sale and everything on sale wasn't cool. I was thinking about getting a big thick ugly tacky sweater to use as a nightshirt, but that on sale on top of clearance was $25 which is too much for something like that (and ended up getting the subpar, but much better valued one at Target.) Marc Ecko Cut & Sew: What a ridiculous name, but this is supposed to be the slightly less tacky version of one of my favorite brands, Ecko. Everything was buy one get one 50% off, which translates into <25% off (25% only if both things are the same price), making it not that Black Friday-worthy of a deal either. The stuff actually did look pretty cool, but after trying them on -- terrible quality!!! The only thing that I thought might be worthwhile was a track jacket for $40. Which, if I found another $40 item, would make both of them $30 which still wouldn't be worth it IMO. I'll just wait until it goes on sale even more by itself, since it probably will. (About to crosspost most of this to my LJ, just to warn those who are about to read twice!)

Channel 92.3 is about to bite the dust. :-\ KSJO was just sold to the Principle Broadcasting Network, which operates (exclusively) foreign-language stations. We're expecting them to flip it to Spanish on 12/1. Channel used to be a great alternative station. Their playlist over the past few years included the likes of Glasvegas, Miike Snow, White Lies, Big Pink, Against Me!, We Are Scientists, Passion Pit, Temper Trap ( before that song even hit the chart...just like most other songs they added), Street Sweeper Social Club, and more. And they didn't just stop at one song; we didn't just get "Feel Good Drag" but "Breaking"; not just "Zero" but "Heads Will Roll"; they didn't stop at "Sometime Around Midnight" but we also got "Wishing Well" and "Does This Mean You're Moving On?," we got both "Animal" and "Burial" from Miike Snow, and "To Lose My Life," "Death," and "Farewell to the Fairground" from White Lies. Then all of "'59 Sound," "Old White Lincoln," "Great Expectations," "American Slang" and "Boxer." And AFI's remake of "Ziggy Stardust"! They hosted concerts for up and coming bands, and it didn't matter how obscure they were, they got played in regular rotation anyway (i.e. A Place to Bury Strangers, Big Pink.) Their recurrents were just as good. We got all three White Lies songs up until a few months ago, when they played bands like Coldplay it was their lesser-known hits (i.e. "Shiver," "Violet Hill") They threw in totally random songs like "Steal My Sunshine" by Len or "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls. And their golds were equally gold; we also got many classic bands' "other" songs; e.g. for Echo & the Bunnymen there was "Lips Like Sugar" but also "Bring on the Dancing Horses"; They didn't only play "Rebel Yell" or Dancing With Myself" by Billy Idol, but also "Flesh For Fantasy" and we didn't just get "Friday I'm In Love"/"Love Song"/"Just Like Heaven" BUT "Fascination Street," "Purple Haze" (!!!) and many other cuts from the Cure. In 2009 they moved the frequency from 104.9 to 92.3, which was supposedly a better signal, although not by much. They're both San Jose transmitters, but 92.3 can be heard in San Francisco *slightly* better, although it's still fuzzy. We also got word they'd have to sell; It's listed as in the San Jose market, but by definition it's also in the San Francisco market. (It's a market within a market.) ClearChannel had owned the maximum number of stations in San Francisco but got away with owning three in San Jose because they were "grandfathered" in before the cap took place; now that they'd gone private, they had to get rid of three. But Channel kept on, good as ever. But halfway through 2010, something changed. The new MGMT song (yes, from the album that nobody ever plays) disappeared...and was replaced by "Kids" and "Time to Pretend." We started hearing songs we've never heard on that station like "It's Been Awhile" and "Outside." They stopped practicing and started preaching. We got sweepers telling us how much this station is "something out of the ordinary" and "your music alternative," while songs by RedHotStoneTemplePearlFooSoundJamGardenAgainsttheSublimeNirvanaMachineFighterPilots went from about 2-3x per hour to most of the hour and you heard most of those bands almost every hour. They still sponsored concerts by obscure bands...but never played them. Most everything else...gone. Even the 80s tracks disappeared and were replaced by...U2's Greatest Hits, every hour. But they did hang onto the Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, and the Fray. Funny thing is...these changes actually sent the ratings into the toilet! ;D That's because it was in a good position for what it was worth; San Jose alternative listeners didn't know any better that alternative stations aren't really supposed to be alternative, and die-hard San Francisco radio fans would happily tune into a fuzzy signal (as I did, when I lived up there) to hear what you can't hear on Live 105. Over the past few months, they've been picking up the pieces, but the damage had mostly been cemented by the time "Boxer," the last song of the old Channel which had survived (albeit with barely a few spins per week) post-sellout, had finally been laid to rest. Now you might hear "Bizarre Love Triangle" or "Enjoy the Silence" in addition to U2. They don't know how to add new songs worth $hit. They used to be the frontrunners to everything; now Live 105's beaten them to Mumford & the Black Keys, and even the latest song by San Jose's own Limousines. (Which, up until now, Channel had been a HUGE supporter of.) When they add something unusual it's more of a WTF than anything else now; it's just too little, too late. For example: they added "Cinnamon" when it was on its way out and "Giving Up the Gun" about 15 weeks after it got purged. They did something right last week, for the first time post-sellout. They added "Come Back Home" by Two Door Cinema Club & "Not in Love" by Crystal Castles featuring Robert Smith. Oh well. A nice gesture, but I can listen to those both on my iPod or iTunes and not have to endure four hours of "Otherside" or "Interstate Love Song" or "Monkey Wrench" or "About a Girl." Maybe that was their last hurrah. Or maybe they still have something up their sleeves in the coming 10 days. They might as well; it's not like they've got anything to lose. I guess considering what they've turned into I'm not too sad they're going away, but I'm bummed that they're going out like this.

Live 105 just announced their Not So Silent Night Concert Lineup. It's: "The Smashing Pumpkins," My Chemical Romance, Phoenix, Broken Bells, & The Black Keys. . Last year's (which I unfortunately wasn't able to see) was much better: Muse, AFI, 30 Seconds to Mars, Metric, & Vampire Weekend. It sold out the first day it went on sale. I don't expect this year's to sell out at all.

Pop Nelly- Just a Dream B+ (Pre-listening: Huh?, though. Why Nelly, and why now? Post-listening: The before still applies, but why am I actually really digging this one... But, "Burn" does not deserve its own reference.)Bruno Mars- Just the Way You Are B- (First 20 times I heard this when she asks him if I "look okay," I thought she said "like cocaine." And this was before he got caught in the Las Vegas b-room. Uhh...) Usher f/ Pitbull- DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love nh/dr Rihanna- Only Girl (In the World) D (What the hell is this.)Far East Movement f/ Cataracs & Dev- Like a G6 C- (They could have done better, but having an entire not particularly clever song about getting drunk does nothing for me. Well, whatever works, I guess.)Katy Perry- Teenage Dream F (Okay. I've finally had it. I've reached the end of my Katy Perry tolerance meter. From how she sings as if she's trying to sound like she's having a fake orgasm, to how we really don't need to hear about teenagers having sex every hour on every pop, Hot AC, and AC station, and then singing about her skin-tight jeans as if we should care, and finally, considering that nothing that she's ever released really needed to be done by anyone in particular, or even at all. She belongs in the garbage.)Flo Rida- Club Can't Handle Me nh/dwt Taio Cruz- Dynamite C- (Since when did this become a Hot AC standard.)Pink- Raise Your Glass F Neon Trees- Animal A- (First time I heard this, I figured it might reach the lower rungs of the pop chart but I never imagined that this would become a future token alt. song on pop.)Enrique Iglesias f/ Pitbull- I Like It B+ [Friday sez: (From the fact that it sounds like he's singing the song underwater, to the cynical addition of Pitbull, to those tools from the Jersey Shore show barging into the video. There's just nothing redeemable whatsoever about this song.) a Nick O! sez: (And this horses*** is the song that revives his washed up career. Wonderful. ) (Not that I disagree with any of this, but everything about this song cracks me up and that's probably why I'm cool with it. It's like a big, humongous, tacky, all-lit-up, neon sign. I like that he sounds like he's underwater, I think it's funny that he arbitrarily included Pitbull here just to have a hit, but it apparently worked. That, and despite the fact his song has nothing to do with any of his previous hits, he throws in random Spanish words like "fiesta" that really serve no purpose, in an attempt to make us realise that it's still Enrique Iglesias. Just hilarious.)Mike Posner- Please Don't Go B-, for nowTrey Songz f/ Nicki Minaj- Bottoms Up nh/dwt Katy Perry- Firework nh/dwt The Ready Set- Love Like Woe F (And I thought that Nelly's Usher reference was unnecessary. But at least that song was tolerable. Now we have a blatant song title nod to that piece of garbage Mya created not long enough ago. Throwing around rhymes like "stupendous" and 'incredulous" or something along those lines does nothing to help your case, either.) Eminem f/ Rihanna- Love the Way You Lie BTaylor Swift- Mine C- (By this point, I really can't tell if there's a dfference between her or Miley Cyrus, let alone anything by either of them. smh.)Kesha- We R Who We R D (Hmm. Just when I was starting to tolerate her she sends out this bland re-hash of Tik Tok. And who the hell R "We" supposed to be anyway? No thanks.)OneRepublic- Secrets B-Kasha- Take it Off B (Oh boy.)Will.I.Am & Nicki Minaj- Check it Out F (Oh, so this is the song that samples the Buggles? Yeah, in that case, .)Train- If it's Love C+Daughtry- September BJesse McCartney- Shake nh/dwt (Why are they still allowing him to try.)Sara Paralysis- King of Anything F (Yawn. I'm tired of hearing about your uncontrolled anger management issues, gag me with a spoon Sara Bareilles. :Usher f/ Jay-Z- Hot Tottie nh/dr Sean Kingston- Letting Go nh/dr Maroon 5- Misery D+ (Agreed with a Nick O!. I wish they'd start trying again.)Akon- Angel nh/dr Rihanna f/ Drake- What's My Name? nh/dr Jason DeRulo- What If D (Any attempts by him could stop existing at any moment and I wouldn't see any reason to care.)David Guetta f/ Kid Cudi- Memories B+Bruno Mars- Grenade nh/dr Cee Lo Green- F**k You D+Taio Cruz- Like it's Her Birthday nh (But I can't imagine this would stray too far from either side of bland.)Travie McCoy- Need You nh/dr B.O.B. f/ Rivers Cuomo- Magic B- (But why is this still charting?)Sick Puppies- Maybe B (This is NOT what I expected from a band called "Sick Puppies.")Edward Maya- Stereo Love A- (So one of my friends who's living in the EU right now had been telling me for awhile about how there are two really big hits called "Stereo Love" and "We No Speak Americano." He sent me links to listen and I figured, typical rest-of-world fodder. Then one day I look at the pop chart and see "Stereo Love." And figure, shrug, one of those Eurohits that crossed over. It happens...)3Oh!3- Double Vision B-, I guessYolanda Be Cool & DCup- We No Speak Americano C- (...and then I look two spaces below and see this one. W. T. F. !!! It's not even in English and then there's the 40's/50's sample. Because of these, even though I found it rather annoying, I was willing to dismiss it as novelty. But we'll see how inundated we become with this. Hearing this as little as a few more times could drop it at least a few more grades.)Willow- Whip My Hair F (Oh My God.)Pitbull- Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor) nh/dr Maroon 5- Give a Little More D+ (See "Misery.")Eminem f/ Lil' Wayne- No Love B (For now. Little Wayne keeps this sample from reaching its full potential.)Black Eyed Peas- The Time (The Dirty Bit) F (Enough with the half sample remakes. Time to stop this nonsense, ba-dam ching!)Mohombi- Bumpy Ride nh who???Chris Brown f/ Tyga & Kevin McCall- Dueces nh/dr Natasha Bedingfield- Strip Me D+ (This is stupid. Stupid nympho.)AlternativeBlack Keys- Tighten Up C (I still don't get it and I'm not convinced this was bound to happen, but whatever.)Kings of Leon- Radioactive B-Linkin Park- Waiting for the End B+Jimmy Eat World- My Best Theory C- (They're hit or miss with me.)Anberlin- Impossible C+ (Never knew I'd burn out on this one so quickly.)Mumford & Sons- Little Lion Man BMuse- Undisclosed Desires A- Cake- Sick of You C- (Enough. This is nothing but "Rock N Roll Lifestyle" with different lyrics, and it was better the first time. How many more 15 minuteses will they get.)Stone Sour- Say You'll Haunt Me B- (for now)My Chemical Romance- Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na) DDirty Heads f/ Rome- Lay Me Down B (I keep on yo-yo-ing on this, but I never even expected it to make it out of the D-range, so. It does sound so much better now that we're not forcefed.)30 Seconds to Mars- Closer to the Edge A- (Finally, a real song. I was starting to think they turned into some sort of cult. )Finger Eleven- Living in a Dream B (But wow, none of you were kidding about Paralyzer II.)Florence + the Machine- Dog Days are Over F (Let's keep on repeating a cliche that died 1000 years ago! ;D and then scream and act all jubilant and happy! ;D and bounce around wearing stupid frocks! ;D and white makeup ;D and play harps ;D and...blah, who am I kidding, the song sucks. Take that, Florence + the Machine. And another one for good measure: )Three Days Grace- World So Cold nh/dr Temper Trap- Fader A Apocalyptica f/ Gavin Rossdale- End of Me nh/dr Arcade Fire- Ready to Start B+Chevelle- Shameful Metaphors nh/dr A Day to Remember- All I Want DDirty Heads- Stand Tall nh/dr Papa Roach- Kick in the Teeth nh/dr 10 Years- Shoot it Out nh/dr Godsmack- Love-Hate-Sex-Pain nh/dr Neon Trees- 1983 B (I hate to admit it but this one is burning out so fast on me already and none of the stations even have it on any rotation, other than giving it a spin or two in the new music hour.)My Darkest Days- Porn Star Dancing DBroken Bells- Ghost Inside C- (I like the idea, but this band has failed to deliver, 2/2 times now.)Middle Class Rut- New Low A-Phoenix- Lasso D ( Everything about this is just plain wrong. First, it's the exact same song as "Listzomania" and "1901," but it has a different title, and second, everyone is still playing both of those 41 and 65 week old songs to death but ignoring this one, even though they're all the same. I don't get it.)Escape the Fate- Issues F (My, I'm awfully generous with the red letters today, aren't I. I heard this once, last night, and that was enough.)Weezer- Memories B (But Live and Channel both dropped this. )Paper Tongues- Get Higher nh/dr Disturbed- Another Way to Die nh/dr Avenged Sevenfold- Welcome to the Family nh/dr Mumford & Sons- The Cave C+ (This one, on the other hand, lacks the issue found that prevented me from liking LLM for the first few months, but it just more boring and irrelevant to begin with. Maybe I'll come around.)Linkin Park- The Catalyst B-XX- Crystalised A- (Sigh. I've been rooting for this for almost an entire year now, but it really is getting painful seeing this sit between 36-43 for how many weeks now.)Saving Abel- The Sex is Good nh/dr New Politics- Dignity nh/dr Smashing Pumpkins- Freak F (This is garbage. Billy Corgan's touring band is not the Smashing Pumpkins and, while they sound fine in person, has no business calling them such when recording new "songs." Neither does B. Corgan, for that matter.)OK Go- White Knuckles A+ (This one, on the other hand. I never knew they had it in them.)A Silent Film- You Will Leave a Mark B (for now)Jack Johnson- At or With Me B+ (He seems like he tries to be ever-slightly-more interesting with each song...but one of these days I'm sure it'll stop working.)Terrible Things- Revolution CBullet for My Valentine- Bittersweet Memories nh/dr Disturbed- The Animal nh/dr AC Script- Breakeven B- (But I guess it was inevitable that this would become the dinosaur it has, huh.)Train- Hey Soul Sister F Lady Antebellum- Need You Now B+Uncle Kracker- Smile D+ (But ROFL @ Uncle Kracker being an AC staple now.)Daughtry- Life After You DMichael Bublé- Hollywood CJohn Mayer- Half of My Heart BKaty Perry- California Gurls F (See "Teenage Dream," and She Wants Revenge wants their line back. )Colbie Caillat- I Never Told You CFive For Fighting- Slice B+ (And I guess here's another now-AC staple. Well, glad to see him still somewhere.)Lady Gaga- Alejandro A- (I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore that this is the only format this song is still charting at.)Seal- Secret C- (Well, I guess those successively blander albums that he keeps on putting out every few years and nobody cares about have to go somewhere.)Lady Antebellum- I Run to You D (Yup, "Need You Now" was a fluke until further notice.)Bon Jovi- What Do You Got C-Josh Groban- Hidden Away nh/dr Jim Brickman- Thank You nh/dr Pink- Glitter in the Air C+Sheryl Crow- Summer Day D- (The song sucks.)Plain White T's- Rhythm of Love D (Ditto.)Santana f/ India.Arie & Yo-Yo Ma- While My Guitar Gently Weeps B+ (Quite the supergroup, if I do say so myself.)Mike Posner- Cooler Than Me B+ (Well, folks, take a good look...coz this man is your new face of AC, I guess.)La Roux- Bulletproof A- (And here's AC's new woman-face! What a pair!)Jewel- Satisfied nh/dwt (because she lost me for all eternity with "Again & Again")Lifehouse- All In D (What a humongous disappointment. "I'm all in for life"? This sounds like a generic backdrop for "the race to end cancer" or something like that.)Train- Marry Me F Adam Lambert- If I Had You DMichael W. Smith- Take My Breath Away C- (And here I was fully expecting this to be a Hot Berlin Remake, per the unwritten "obligatory useless remake" AC mandate.) Hot ACMichael Franti & Spearhead- The Sound of Sunshine D (Bite me.)Paramore- The Only Exception C+Ryan Star- Start a Fire B (This is so goofy and ridiculous, rhyming "start a fire" with "sexual desire" and yet I can't bring myself to hate it.)Switchfoot- Your Love is a Song C+ (Not one of the better things they've done; perfect for Hot AC. Disclaimer: It might grow on me, but the previous sentence was too good not to use.)Carrie Underwood- Undo It nh/dwt Hedley- Perfect BScript- For the First Time C (I'm just so burned out on "Breakeven" that I have a feeling I won't be able to stomach too much anything by them from here on out.)Ingrid Michaelson- Parachute D (Unnecessary and counterproductive.)B.o.B. f/ Hayley Williams- Airplanes BTriple A Robert Plant- Angel Dance C- (Seems he made a song just to make a song.)Ray Lamontagne & Pariah Dogs- Beg Steal of Borrow C (And that's a damn good grade considering it's Ray "hella overrated" LaMontagne.)Shawn Mullins- Light You Up C+ (I wonder if he'll ever stop trying. Not likely.)Avett Brothers- Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise CDavid Gray- A Moment Changes Everything A- KT Turnstile- Fade Like a Shadow B+ (For now. I'm still trying really hard to get over that cherry tree disaster.)Tired Pony- Dead American Writers A (Short and sweet. And, a supergroup ft. the lead singer of Snow Patrol.)Guster- Do You Love Me C- (This band IMO is so incredibly nothing special and overrated, but glad they're still having hits somewhere, I guess.)Michael Franti & Spearhead- Hey Hey Hey A- (Too many "Hey"'s between the last 4 singles, but at least we have a real Michael Franti song again.)Donavon Frankreiter- Glow A- John Butler Trio- I'd Do Anything (Soldier's Lament) BEric Clapton- Run Back to Your Side C-Grace Potter & The Nocturnals- Paris C-Sheryl Crow- Sign Your Name C+One Eskimo- Amazing B+ (This is a significant improvement over "Kandi.")Doobie Brothers- Nobody (2010) F [WotUNeed sez: (But this is completely pointless. Why not just play "Nobody" (1971) instead?)] (Yeppers. This is nothing but a poor excuse to shove a 40 year old song down the AAA listeners throats and I don't like it.) Keane- My Shadow B-Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers- High in the Morning nh/dwt Elton John & Leon Russell- If it Wasn't for Bad nh/dr Steven Page- Indecision B (Wow, he barely just left the Barenaked Ladies and he's already a superstar on AAA. Go Steven Page. )RhythmicKanye West & the new dumb@$$ coalition - Monster F (Utterly disappointed. I looked it up because it had Bon Iver on it and figured with R. Ross and J. Z. it could have very well been very good. But this is dreck.)
