Well, here's that obligatory topic that you find at every message board that answers questions that are frequently asked. Except that none of these questions were ever asked here, let alone frequently. I could only assume that's the case just about everywhere else as well. So, for sake of truth in advertising, here we have the PAQ.
Why was this board started?
Plain and simple, it was created to provide a forum for the discussion of music, radio, and the radio music charts.
Well I've heard that before. What makes this forum different from the others?
First things first, it has fewer members. This is intended to be a good thing, as it is going to be built upon a foundation of mature, level-headed contributors, without lambs or other people who tend to primarily post meaningless crap. For instance, I was tired of seeing "discussions" about Mariah Carey's albums and singles that were hundreds of pages long, when 95% of the replies were something like "Go Mariah! [eom]", or a by-the-minute Mediabase spin update. Nobody cares about any of that.
Secondly, the rules are not as strict, the enforcement of the rules much less despotic, and the administration isn't the slightest bit arrogant. For some people, this wasn't a problem at Pulse. That's fine. But for many others, it was; in fact, there were more people concerned about the administration than I had anticipated. This is not Pulse, this is not a competition with Pulse or any other board; I'll even link you to Pulse if you're interested in posting there: pulsemusic.proboards12.com . Think of it more as what's good about Pulse, and what was good about R and R's message boards, without any of the stuff that brings it down.
Hey! Mr. X just said he doesn't like the new Kelly Clarkson single! Why hasn't that post been deleted or locked yet?
Uh, sorry; it doesn't work that way here. We don't disallow negativity toward songs or artists; in fact, it is welcomed here. The only time in which a topic will ever be locked is if it's gone totally astray from its original subject, if the topic is completely meaningless, or if it's simply become a place for trading personal insults. For those of you who remember the days of yore with R and R's Message boards, it'll be run more like that. On this board, there is a difference between a debate and an argument, and civilized debate without any fear of closure or banning will always be encouraged on this board.
What are we not allowed to do?
• Personal attacks on other board members
• Spam
• Join the board as a street teamer, post one canned message about the band of whom you're a street teamer, and fly away
• Post messages made up of primarily unreadable words and nonsensical grammar
Also, the following actions are not necessarily illegal, but heavily frowned upon:
• Meaningless posts (ie. word association/chain reaction topics, or post count topics
• Overusage of stupid catch phrases (ie. "hot tamale", "Hot (X) Remake!")
Finally, one thing must be made crystal clear:
NEW: adj. new-er, new-est. Having been made or come into being only a short time ago; recent.
NU: n. The character from the rare Super Nintendo game "Chrono Trigger", with whom all life begins and ends.
If you are unaware of the difference between those two words, learn it now.
Can I be an administrator?
One thing's for sure, and that is that asking to be administrator is not going to get you to be one, nor will constantly sucking up to the adminstration (a la Disco Dude From Outer Space) make you one. Considering the size of the board and that there really aren't many rules to enforce, there is no need to add more administrators at this time. At both R and R's and Pulse's message boards, the addition of moderators resulted in a decline in total quality. We don't need that here.
What are the different membership levels on this board?
Well...
0 posts: Non-poster
1 post: Newcomer
You'll have to learn the rest on your own. There are ten in all, and the tenth one is earned with 8000 posts.
I would also like to draw attention to the fact that this topic is not locked. If you have any further questions, or complaints regarding any of the issues that have been brought up here, this is the place to post them.
For all newly registered members: Thank you for coming; hopefully you'll like it enough here to stay awhile.
