The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia... Blue October - "Calling You" CDS Authority Zero - Andiamo Coldplay - X&Y The Crystal Method - Tweekend Tool - 10,000 Days
The Blue October single was for a quarter. I'll take an official CD of any song I know for a quarter. Authority Zero was used for $2.50. Same with Coldplay, for $5.00. Crystal Method I bought at a Community Markets grocery store which sells non-recent CD's. It's unopened and is marked down from $17.99 to $4.00. And Tool I bought at a Meijer store because it's open 24 hours and I didn't feel like waiting until the music stores opened at 10am, and it was $9.99 with a 3 dollar off coupon if I bought 2 things of Colgate toothpaste.

Interesting. How is that? I remember enjoying it, even though I've only listened to it through a couple of times . Lately I've noticed that certain CD's of mine are being overshadowed by others. There's a few others on there that I hardly have listened to as well.

Since Liberation Transmission, lo, those many months ago: A mix CD of songs my friend sends out via email almost daily A second mix CD of the next batch of songs Eighteen Visions (Trustkill Records sampler) Eighteen Visions Pharrell - In My Mind
The following are the final albums I burned from my college station before my buddy moved to Michigan for grad school and I became employed (twice!) in St. Louis (which was thankfully only a couple weeks later): The Beavis and Butt-head Experience Snake River Conspiracy - Sonic Jihad (plus the remixes off the "Vulcan" single) Punk Goes '90's despite the great album cover (the Nevermind baby with a mohawk), I knew this would suck, and thankfully was able to burn it solely to hear what Bleeding Through did with Hum's "Stars" and Eighteen Visions did with "The Beautiful People") Thursday - A City by the Light Divided Underoath - Define the Great Line Muse - Black Holes and Revelations Hatebreed - Supremacy
Cheap from a CD club: Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway The Clash - London Calling Billy Idol - Greatest Hits

It's not what I was expecting of a Christian emo band.

I now own: Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist Minor Threat - Complete Discography (used) Mastodon - Blood Mountain (promo)
At my store when the manager was buying back this stack of some guy's CDs, I noticed the guy was selling back Minor Threat. I quietly told my manager to keep that apart from the rest of our used stock, because depending on how much it was worth, I'd like to buy it. He told me to look it up in our computer system to see how much it would be. It resells for $7.99, so I told him to forget it, that it wasn't that big of a priority right now. He asked me what we buy it back for and the screen said $1.50. He told me I could personally buy it off the guy for $2, instead. What a neat little trick that is!
And in the case of Mastodon, it's the promo copy the label sent to the cousin store I officially work for. I'd seen it laying there recently and knowing that it's not something we'd ever play in the store and reasonably sure that none of the other co-workers would be interested in it, I asked if I could have it the last time I worked there. The manager told me sure.
It's great to work at the places I do.

Flyleaf - Flyleaf Editors - The Back Room Evans Blue - The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume
I had four Best Buy bucks from McDonald's I wanted to use before it was too late. I probably should've waited on the Evans Blue CD, though, since it wasn't going to be covered by the discount, it was $12.99 (the others were $9.99 pre-discount), I could've just asked for it for Christmas (which I was going to do for the new Incubus album anyways), and if I absolutely wanted a third CD, I could've gotten What's the Story (Morning Glory) on special for $9.99. But too late now.

One day at work recently, the main assistant manager was buying back this lady's DVDs, most of which were Christmas and/or stolen. I was minding my own business when I had a notion. I looked through her stack as the asst mgr was ringing them up and I noticed A Christmas Story, one of my 5 favorite movies ever. Our computer system buys it back for $1. If I'm not planning on buying something, I don't usually carry any cash for safety reasons when I go to work. So I quietly asked the asst mgr if I could borrow a dollar to buy it off her.
Later in the day, the store manager was ringing in a huge stash of used CDs some guy was selling and the one I had my eye on that I knew I might be able to afford (the first 2 Zeppelin albums I knew would both be $5 buybacks, so those were out) was Danzig's 777: I Luciferi. I quietly informed the store mgr that I'd like to buy that one and when it rang up for him as a $2 resell, the manager told him it was $1 (what stuff is worth is so arbitrary that the guy wouldn't have known the difference on an album like that), and so I now owed him a dollar.
Later still, a different assistant manager was doing a used buyback and I saw the B-52's' Time Capsule greatest hits album in the stack. I told her I'd like to have it, so when it rang up as a $2 buyback, I now owed her $2.
So one of my favorite movies on DVD and two CDs that have been on my wishlist for years now, all for just four borrowed dollars from three different managers where I work. If that isn't just the tops, I don't know what is...
Anyway, I bought these on the days they came out: (+44) - When Your Heart Stops Beating Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies
And that's probably gonna be it this year, in terms of adding CDs to my collection. I'd say I'd be buying Incubus next week, but I've only heard most of "Anna Molly" twice, neither of which time did anything for me, and frankly, the last album was unsatisfying overall. So unfortunately, that'll have to wait, as did the Tenacious D album (despite having the best album cover of the year), but that was because nobody was selling it cheap enough.

Gaaaaahh! I-can't-stop!! Today was employee discount day at TransWorld stores, meaning the 30% we get off new product and the 20% off used were now bumped up to 40 & 30, respectively. I went out to FYE first (before I had to be at work at Streetside) to get their copies of Bleeding Through's Portrait of the Goddess and the chopped and screwed version of Transplants' Haunted Cities. Unfortunately for me, the store manager couldn't get out of his driveway apparently, due to the ice and snow we got yesterday, so when I showed up, the store was still closed. (The assistant manager didn't feel like going in in his stead, so the store was just closed today. ) Anywho, I hope instead that the discount day for us applies tomorrow. Then at Streetside, I finally bought up my stash of used items I'd had on the employee reserve shelf for nearly two months now. So I now own: The Corpse Bride DVD The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor And just today, I saw someone had sold back a promo copy of the Clipse's Hell Hath No Fury and we wanted $7.99 for it. (If only I had been at work as it was being sold back.) I was trying to figure out a way I could listen to it to see if I wanted it or not, because clearly, today was the day to buy. Since we were so slow, due to the weather, my assistant manager actually encouraged me to listen to it at our customer listening station, because if I wanted to get it, that's more money for the store right there. So I got all 4 of those items for 30 percent off the used sticker price. Then I happened to be at the register when someone was selling back a copy of Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones. Our buyback price for it is #3, so I bought it off the guy. I also helped myself to a free Brand New promo single for "Sowing Season"/"aloC-acoC." Then when I was picking up my film from Target, the checkout girl mistakenly rang up all 6 of my $4.99+ photo packages as $1.15, because she didn't know where the actual barcode was and of the 3 barcodes on the side of the package she looked at (noting my extra shots on my 24exp films), $1.15 was the most expensive barcode of the three. The angel on my shoulder tried to be honest, but at the last second, the devil on the other one ran over and choked him into silence. So mucho dinero saved for a Nick O! today.

Wow, that sounds like quite a deal.
Since my last post I've gotten Stabbing Westward's self-titled album and Beck's The Information both used, and Amazon.com had U2's The Unforgettable Fire on sale for the amazing price of $5.99. I haven't seen anything else recently that's piqued my interest, at least to what I'd want to buy. Christmas will probably be whenever this thing will be the least bit relevant.

I'm afraid I've acquired more already. I added two more mix CDs full of the latest songs of the day my buddy sends out, bringing my total up to 5 of those, now. Today I took home used copies of Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape and Tenacious D's The Pick of Destiny. (And tonight my bro and I went and saw the movie finally. So good! ) Unfortunately, these (and two others I added to my employee stash) were bought back on days I wasn't working, so I had to pay 20% off the used sticker price instead of buy-back transaction price. And then I also took home a Flyleaf promo single with only "Fully Alive" and "I'm So Sick" on it as well as our promo copy of Nelly Furtado's Loose that I just noticed in the back today. I haven't officially adopted it into "Nick's collection" yet, though. Since I only became interested after hearing "Say It Right," I figure I'll listen to it first before I declare it mine. Otherwise I'll take it right back in and put it on the shelf I found it on.

Anyone been to Tower Records lately? They're going out of business and now they're 70% off. They started at like 10% off and went down 5% increments and then 10% increments once they hit 30% off. They were still a bad deal until they got to 30% off, then they didn't start being a good deal until they hit 40-50% off. I think this is their last week. I've been there a bunch of times in the past month and probably spent about $100 total, as of yet. 30% off: Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau - Metheny/Mehldau 40% off: Dirty Vegas - One SubZero: The Essential Chillout Collection 2 CD (from WaterMusic, my fav. electronic label) 10: A Decade of Om 3 CD (from Om, my other fav. electronic label) 50% off: Erasure - Union St. Alexi Murdoch - Time Without Consequence David Gray - Alibi (single) 60% off: Camiel - Sunset The Damnwells - Air Stereo Bruce Cockburn - Life Short Call Now Zuco103 - Whaa!* Torch* Asian Travels* * = $3 each special during 60% off week 70% off: Steve Oliver - Radiant Breaks CoOp - The Sound Inside They'll probably go down to 80% off one of these days, when I might have to make one final trip. Oh, they also have back-issues of R&R for like 33 cents each. Sadly, no year-end ones.
