Everywhere? I may have to make the 40-mile drive to Ann Arbor if that's the case. Now, if I could only remember what I've gotten since my last post... My Chemical Romance - The Black ParadeThe Killers - Sam's TownBullet For My Valentine - The PoisonDredg - Live At The FillmoreMuse - AbsolutionMuse - Showbiz (upgrading my burned & scratched up versions on the last two) Nine Inch Nails - the downward spiral (used; I don't know if the standard version is in the dual-disc format, but mine is.) Interpol - AnticsMoby - Animal Rights (full-length promo...who the hell still has promos of this lying around. I love local record stores .) Incubus - Light GrenadesMuse - "Hullabaloo" Soundtrack (burned; I'm not paying $20 for this even if it is a double-cd. Best Buy can blow me if they think I'm gonna give them profits on both the cd and the import fees they allegedly paid on it. Second album I've ever downloaded in full from the internet; the first was Lostprophets' thefakesoundofprogress original version.)

Everywhere? I may have to make the 40-mile drive to Ann Arbor if that's the case. Yeah, all the ones in the US are being liquidated. Sunday is the last day for both of the ones here. I'm not sure if they all have the exact same timeline, but all of them are supposed to be gone before 07.

Nine Inch Nails - the downward spiral (used; I don't know if the standard version is in the dual-disc format, but mine is.) Not the standard version. But then again, I accidentally bought edited versions of Mellow Gold by Beck and the first SOAD album. I do not pass up good used deals, I've learned. Practically anything $5.99 and under, I'll get. Contaminated: Relapse Records Sampler, Vol. 7 (for 3 bucks new, I wanted to hear non-Dillinger bands on the record label)Sade - The Best of Sade (used)INXS - Kick (used; this & above were $.50 cassettes)Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow (used)Tool - 10,000 Days Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming (used)Kelis - Kaleidoscope (used; this above were $3.98)The Streets - Original Pirate Material (used)Martin L. Gore - Counterfeit e.p. (used)Porcupine Tree - In Absentia (I don't own this yet, but my order should come in a couple days.)

Sade - The Best of Sade (used)Ooh, way to go. This has been a recently elevated priority on my "to get" list ever since about a year ago when just as I was about to leave Kinko's, "No Ordinary Love" came on their speakers and I blissed out on it around the ceiling speakers for all of its 5? 7? minutes, pretending to browse (if that wasn't hard to sustain for so long...) Every time I see the expensive used copies of this and Love Deluxe in our store, I unconsciously sigh and think about what an amazingly beautiful song "No Ordinary Love" is and how touching it was for me when the Deftones, a usually heavy band I love, covered it years ago.

So I made my trip to the Tower Records in Seattle, even though I also swore not to buy any more CDs for the rest of the year; the deals were too good to pass up. Unfortunately, the affair took up my whole day, caused my socks to look more like rags, and left me with a camera that now has to be repaired without me ever getting to take a photograph. The only thing that might have validated it for me would be if I had met Bryant Gumbel, but no such luck. Here's what I got: Crossfade - CrossfadeThe Strokes - Juicebox [CD single] Our Lady Peace - Clumsy8stops7 - Question Everything [CD single] (I've seen the video for "Satisfied" twice and it was $0.40, so I figured what the hell.)Rihanna - Pon de Replay [CD single] Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear ViewMuch of the stuff I was hoping to get had been gone already and it was mostly artists I'd never heard of or from left. I would've liked to get an Eminem album since all rap CDs were $1.00, a tremendous deal that, unfortunately, others appeared to recognize as well. At least I had an excuse to buy those singles, which I never ordinarily buy, since those had the best markdowns in the store.

Well piece of crap. Looks like they don't even have one in Ann Arbor anymore. Or Columbus. I was actually about to drive up there. I'd have to hit Chicago for that and I don't have the 9 hours to make that round trip now.

I hit Tower Sports Arena one last time. Today was their last day and everything was $1, if you bought 20 or more they went down to $0.50. They did a good job liquidating; I want to say it looked like by this point 90% of the stuff was gone. And what was left was going fast; they were being raped by everyone there including me. What I was did and go through and see if there was anything I thought was worth $1 or more and then once I hit 10 I just started pulling ten more off the shelves that looked interesting. What I came up with:
The first ten: Embrace - This New Day Matthew Ryan - Regret Over the Wires Mindy Smith - Long Island Shores Jackie Greene - American Myth Jeb Loy Nichols - Now Then KCRW Alive & Rare (Compilation) Run Run Run - Endless Winter SouthFM - Swallowing the Pill Tina Dico - In the Red William Topley - Feasting With Panthers
The next ten: (all from the Six Degrees label except When in Rome) Bob Holroyd - Without Within Cibelle - The Shine of Dried Electric Leaves Euphoria - Beautiful My Child Festival of Light (Compilation) Festival of Light II (Compilation) Karsh Kale - Broken English Recline (Compilation) Traveler '00 (Compilation) Traveler '02 (Compilation) When in Rome
Total impulse day, and the entire damage was $10.78 including tax.
Tower Sports Arena... there went San Diego's best record store as of 6 PM today. The La Jolla one is still open till next Wed. or Thurs. so I might have to go up there one last time before they, too, are history.

Yep, I have no control when I see a good deal for something I'm interested in. Now I have:
Madonna - Bedtime Stories (used) Stabbing Westward - Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel (used) Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (used; $1!!) Depeche Mode - The Singles 81>85 Madonna - Music Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl (this & 2 others above from a BMG sale) Zero 7 - When It Falls (used) R.E.M. - Automatic for the People (used; $2.) Nas - Illmatic Nas - It Was Written (both albums were relatively cheap, so I went ahead. Clerk asked me if I wanted his new one, and I told him I'd rather buy these first.) A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes & Life (at the Half Price Books store, all the used cassettes are now $.50 (singles half of that), and I figured I wouldn't pass up one of their albums for a ridiculously good price).

What I've gotten since the New Year is two used CD's at work (one from each store) that cost (me less than) $4.99:
Shakespear's Sister - Hormonally Yours Sierra Swan - Ladyland (I took a chance with this because she's the girl who sang the wordless vocals on Cold's "Witch," and then the backing vocals on their single, "Suffocate," on the next album. It turns out that Linda Perry wrote one song and Aimee Mann duets on another. Sadly, no musical input from Scooter Ward; he's just listed in her thank-yous.)

The other day, I was able to buy 4 CDs from a customer at the buyback price. (I was pissed too, because LL Cool J's best-of had come in before I got there. I also missed out the other day on getting BSB's greatest hits for $2. It's not worth the mark-up to $8 to me.)
Anyway, what I did get was: Alanis Morissette - Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie ($1) Coldplay - X&Y ($3, to replace my burned copy, since I love it so much) Depeche Mode - Exciter ($2. This is mostly subliminal influence from Kirk. I'm not for certain if I would've bought this a month or two ago.) Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes ($2, to replace the copy I had ten years ago, but gave to my brother because he obviously was growing to like her much more than me, after he listened to my 3 albums of hers. I also gave him my copy of Under the Pink, keeping Boys for Pele for myself. At the time, I didn't see the point of there being two copies of LE & UTP in the house, since he was obviously going to be listening to them much more than I was. Obviously, we live in separate places now. And I bought back a used copy of UTP in 2004.)

It's funny, what I've noticed: After you go buying a bunch of CD's you're interested in, you'll go to the used sections and see that you're not interested in paying for what you don't already have. But what I _did_ get was:
The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat Green Day - Dookie (used)
Dustin Kensrue - Please Come Home (Target sale: $7.98)
Part of a Borders sale: Green Day - Kerplunk! Talking Heads - Little Creatures ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - The Secret of Elena's Tomb (EP) (I had to get this so that I could hear "Intellegence" again, which may not be typical TOD but is a sonic masterpiece.)
Fall Out Boy - Take This to Your Grave The Velvet Underground - Loaded
Heh, I actually bought FOB today. I knew about the new album being released, but I thought I'd get the release that I liked and was only $7.99, a couple bucks off the Best Buy price (where I got it, btw.) Ironically, it took until they got big for me to like them, but I think it'd actually be easier for me to be more into them if they never caught on with the teenybop audience. I'm a lot more interested in Modest Mouse and that'll probably be my next day-out purchase.
EDIT: I forgot that with a sale BMG offered me through the phone, they gave me Nickelback's All the Right Reasons and Jet's Shine On by default. I think I may want to get rid of those. I just don't have use for them, and 5-6 years ago, I may have actually _wanted_ a Nickelback album.

Since my last post: Shiny Toy Guns sampler ("Le Disko [clean edit]" & "Starts with One") (free from work)War - The Best of War...and More ($2 used buyback price)Yellowjackets - The Best of Yellowjackets ($1 used buyback price. Their drummer, Will Kennedy, was my jazz drumming instructor the second year I attended the U.S. Percussion Camp (1999). I've been embarrassed lately about how little jazz I have in my collection, am currently receptive to cheap ways of rectifying that, and this was the first one. I've never actually heard the Yellowjackets yet, but figured, Will Kennedy drums for them and I may as well start with the best of the group.)The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia... (You can't go wrong with a free copy of the real thing (to replace my burned copy). Especially if it happens to be the shining jewel amid a selection of otherwise junk promos your concert venue job offers as incentive to attend its informational retirement fund meeting. Lucky me.)"And All Things Will End" (mix CD I made of songs that most directly apply to my breakup. Here's the tracklisting and links to all the lyrics for those interested:)01. Bleeding Through "Love Lost in a Hail of Gun Fire" lyrics02. Social Distortion "Dear Lover" lyrics03. Good Charlotte "The Truth" lyrics04. Dido "Honestly OK" lyrics05. Chris Isaak "Changed Your Mind" lyrics06. Eighteen Visions "Broken Hearted" lyrics07. Avenged Sevenfold "Betrayed" lyrics08. Bleeding Through "Love in Slow Motion" lyrics09. Eighteen Visions "Tower of Snakes" lyrics10. Good Charlotte "Ghost of You" lyrics11. Chris Isaak "Forever Blue" lyrics12. Justin Timberlake "What Goes Around" lyrics13. Good Charlotte "It Wasn't Enough" lyrics14. Stabbing Westward "Waking Up Beside You" lyrics15. Avenged Sevenfold "And All Things Will End" lyrics16. The All-American Rejects "Move Along" lyrics17. My Chemical Romance "Famous Last Words" lyricsGood Charlotte "The River" (free promo single from work because I happened to be at the right place at the right time. It made up for earlier that day, when I showed up less than 5 minutes from getting Siamese Dream finally, for the used buyback price of $2.50. )Soon, I'll be adding the following burned CDs from a friend: Against Me! - Searching for a Former Clarity Hot Water Music - Caution Alkaline Trio/Hot Water Music (split EP)

Stuff that I've bought since then: Beastie Boys - Ill Communication Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back Radiohead - My Iron Lung EP Pete Yorn - Musicforthemorningafter (and I finally listened to the second one after I mistakenly bought it used.) Korn (finally... and I've known all of these songs for a few years already, at least.) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk (re-master, which adds intended versions of "Knock" and "Maid," as well as restored full "Ditty" in its track and some live tracks) Sonic Youth - Dirty (Yes, I have only recently gotten this (my 4th SY album, for the record). I also plan to get EVOL and Sister next, or if I find a good price, Murray Street and Sonic Nurse. And naturally, I'll also get Goo since it was the record made between DN and Dirty.) The Velvet Underground
I got all of those cheap on a sale. And I thought used stuff was generally priced from 6 to 9 bucks.
However, I did get a few used tapes at a clearance sale: Tori Amos - Under the Pink U2 - Boy Erik B. and Rakim - Paid in Full
Siamese Dream was worth the "new" price at $11 that I got it at a nearly three years ago, and recently when I got a used copy for $3.

I forgot to mention that after those 2 & the single I got, I got 9 promo CDs from KPNT when I was there Monday morning:
Bullet for My Valentine - The Poison Dropping Daylight - Brace Yourself The Exies - Head for the Door The Killers - Sam's Town (duplicate) Madina Lake - From Them, Through Us, to You Papa Roach - Getting Away with Murder (duplicate) The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Don't You Fake It Say Anything - ...Is a Real Boy Wolfmother
I plan on listening to all of these at least once. (Yes, even the Exies & the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.) I'm not sure yet if I'll sell back the duplicates or give 'em to someone that may want 'em. I'm definitely keeping BFMV and Wolfmother, though I never would have bothered to acquire the latter. Dropping Daylight's and Madina Lake's albums I had no prior interest in, but I'll listen to them with an open mind. Say Anything I also wouldn't have sought, yet I'm curious about it now that I have it. The Exies and RJA I could've done without, but I'll listen to them anyway. There may very well be some decent stuff on there I never would've known about otherwise.
Anyway, I didn't want to have to buy it already, but it was the last day it was on sale today: Type O Negative - Dead Again
And hey, I plan on seeing them next month anyway, so might as well get it now and get it over with, so I can know the new songs they play.
