Also:
49. Snoop Dogg (featuring Pharrell) - Drop It Like It's Hot 48. Earshot - Someone 46. The Killers - All These Things That I've Done 44. Eminem - Mockingbird

41. Keane- "Everybody's Changing" 43 and 46 look familiar. 41 is right; when I said Steve was "close" on 46, I meant he got the right artist.

Well, 46 must be "Smile Like You Mean It". I can't say it was a mistake, either; I really thought it was what I guessed first.

47. Third single that hung around the bottom of the Alt chart for a while after peaking.
43. First single that crept up the Alternative chart in the same manner as Shinedown's "45", and hit around the same peak, but did so a little more quickly.
42. Third single that hasn't done quite as well as the first two on Alternative so far. On Pulse, the person who made the topic for this song spelled the title in an odd British way.

42 My Chemical Romance - The Ghoust Of You? Not incorrect, but in fact that is the correct response.

Wow, I can't believe I missed MCR. I guess I was reading the words too fast and/or I would've expected to see a slash after "never," despite not being the end of the sentence.
As for those other two, I might get 'em if I looked 'em up in my records, but I'm too tired to do that tonight.

47. Their very first single went recurrent on the Alternative chart without hitting the top 40.
43. Their other hit sounds noticeably different -- and most people on Pulse/this board liked that one more.

40. They've already been represented once so far, and they will be represented again. Its chart performance did not match its title. Foo Fighters - DOA (friday)
39. The highest rap song of the year. The succeeding single did much better. Kanye West - Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Mega248)
38. "A melange of U2 atmospherics, grunge angst, gothic brooding, and metal guitars... [the album] is a bleak yet hammy collection of self-absorbed gloom-rock, a record where an allusion to the title of the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" is treated as something soul-searching and profound." I apparently liked this song a little more than Stephen Thomas Erlewine did. 30 Seconds to Mars - Attack (halo19)
37. On one of my first listens to this song, I heard the chorus and thought, "Well, this certainly won't get any play on MTV." It turns out I'd heard a key word wrong, and this actually turned out to be one of the bigger hits on MTV this year. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down (a Nick O and -- sort of -- halo19)
36. In the video, a few lines of this song is sung acapella.
35. I would be surprised if more than maybe one or two people here have heard this. It apparently went for Alternative adds late in 2004 and flopped; it did go for Hot AC adds in the first half of this year... and flopped. What a pity. Pitty Sing - Radio (Mega248)
34. Like 37, another rock song seemingly ubiquitous on MTV this year. They might even be the two most played Alternative videos of the year. My Chemical Romance - Helena (a/St. Nick O!)
33. This band has four #1 hits on my chart, two #2 hits, one song that didn't hit my chart at all because I didn't hear it before 9/11 dwindled its airplay... and this song that hit #7 (but had great longevity). Jimmy Eat World - Futures (Mega248)
32. One of the slowest rising Alternative hits of the year, it rose so slow it was mistakenly sent to recurrent. 10 Years - Wasteland (Mega248)
31. Some people were disappointed by this song's video, maybe because the song was so often compared to a single from their last album that had a highly acclaimed video. Coldplay - Fix You (friday)

39. Kanye West- "Diamonds" 33. Jimmy Eat World- "Futures" 32. 10 Years- "Wasteland" You got all three correct. I just noticed an error in the clue for #33 - Jimmy Eat World only have one #2 hit ("A Praise Chorus"). Their #1s are "The Middle", "Sweetness", "Pain", and "Work". Despite hitting #1 four times, JEW have only spent 7 or 8 cumulative weeks at #1 (don't have my records in front of me).

40) Foo Fighters - DOA 37) My Chemical Romance - Helena 31) Coldplay - Fix You You got "DOA" and "Fix You". 38. 30 Seconds to Mars - "Attack" 34. Fall Out Boy - "Sugar, We're Going Down" (?) "Attack" is correct. You two are close on the two you got wrong, though.

Is it cheating if I cut in and guess "Sugar, We're Goin Down" at 37 and "Helena" at #34? I swear those are the two I had thought of based on #34's clue and was going to guess them at these numbers, before seeing Michael and Kirk's incorrectly placed guesses.
(I don't care if you choose to reserve those two for them, however.)

Is it cheating if I cut in and guess "Sugar, We're Goin Down" at 37 and "Helena" at #34? It's not cheating, since I didn't specifically say the points were reserved for them, and those two are correct. I swear those are the two I had thought of based on #34's clue and was going to guess them at these numbers, before seeing Michael and Kirk's incorrectly placed guesses. (I don't care if you choose to reserve those two for them, however.) Well, I would have a more clear-cut case if one of the two guessed both of them ("Helena" for #37 and "Sugar" for #34). But then again, Kirk might have only guessed "Sugar" for #34 because he thought Michael's guess of "Helena" was correct. I'll wait to see what Michael and Kirk's reasonings were for their guesses, but I'd say you deserve at least 1 point, and possibly the full 2 points.

Only two more to go in this round, so time for additional clues.
36. In the video, a few lines of this song is sung acapella. A new artist whose biggest success was on Hot AC. It also cracked the top 50 on CHR/Pop. A high percentage of discussion of this song on the Pulse board was about which other artist's sound was most comparable.
35. I would be surprised if more than maybe one or two people here have heard this. It apparently went for Alternative adds late in 2004 and flopped; it did go for Hot AC adds in the first half of this year... and flopped. What a pitty.
