The song in mind is 10x as obscure, but the irony of that lyric is that an artist sort of did get some drama from another artist around the time it was released.
#99 made the pop chart if that helps, although this artist is not usual for my personal chart.
Nick might know some of the album cuts, and if you think of what 1998 album had a couple of songs on my chart, then you'll get #92. #98 is by an artist who did really well on my chart this year; look at my albums list and think of what song title that is.

96. Nine Inch Nails "You Know What You Are?" (I heard NIN when I read that, and when I made sure what track it was, the word was "anything," but perhaps you made a typo.)

Yeah, it was. That's what my ears tend to hear. But I don't think I should feel that dumb 'cos the credits don't even appear on the album . I think I'm looking for someone like friday on #93. You people can look up 98 & 92, I'd like to add.

Good to know, 'cause I was thinking NIN was a possibility for that one, too.
For 92 I was thinking Harvey Danger, but I looked up the tracklisting (and for that of their 2000 album) and didn't see any question-asking songs.

Nick, that was so 2004, my charting of KJV tracks.
But unlike HD, artist at #92 is defunct, although some of them are in a band who made my chart last year, a song who shared its title with a Thompson Twins song.
You said about a particular album that you have a burned copy of that has one of the album cuts as well.

You said about a particular album that you have a burned copy of that has one of the album cuts as well. That might mean that I'm not familiar enough with the album cuts yet to necessarily recognize album cut lyrics, however.

Remaining stuff:
99. "I'm crazy about the way you could make my say your name"
98. [album cut (U.S.)/single (Eur.)] Artist: Two words, title: seven words. With that thing about the album in my top 25, also know that this particular song is on my personal chart and if you look the band's singles up on Wikipedia, it's there Kaiser Chiefs - "Everyday I Love You Less and Less" (a Nick O!)
97. [album cut] "wallowing in a pool of gasoline" Also on my current chart. Another one to look at my top albums of the year on. Hot Hot Heat - "Running Out of Time" (mtm4319)
95. [International single] Also on my current chart. Artist name = "A member of the armed services who is reported missing following a combat mission and whose status to injury, capture, and death is uknown." M.I.A. - "Pull Up the People" (mtm4319) 94. "you don't to start want no drama/we don't scrap when there's problems" 93. [album cut] "they're bleeding all your colors into one, and a few come undone"
92. The former title talks about going to a place that Earth is the third closest planet from. The Thompson Twins thing does not refer to this clue, but to the song from another group affiliated with them that made my chart. Tripping Daisy - "Our Long Drive to the Sun/Can a Man Mark It?" (a Nick O!)

98. Kaiser Chiefs "Everyday I Love You Less and Less"
And I'm too tired to look up any more tonight, so I'm going to bed and will be back tomorrow, hopefully, but it might be Sunday.

I modified #95, so now it should be way easier. I thought it would be the easiest way to do that one.
#99 and 94 are not remotely rock songs, if that helps. I'll talk about the name of the song in reference if #92 is still confusing.

Just a shot in the dark for 99, but only because it's the first pop song that came to mind and was remotely plausible: Frankie J "Obsession (No Es Amor)" ?
Also I just figured out #92: Tripping Daisy "Our Drive to the Sun/Can a Man Mark It?"
(It was weird because you alluded to the sun and it was a split song, so that made me think of the Polyphonic Spree and then Tripping Daisy followed suit and I thought, "Aha! I'm on to something with this...")

Lyrics no longer seem to be much help on this one..
99. Way less successful than "Obession (No Es Amor)". Not a Spanish-language song, let alone bilingual.
97. This song had just the right duration on my chart to be able to make the year-end list. Hot Hot Heat - "Running Out of Time" (mtm4319) 94. Follow-up was way bigger than this, and artist's biggest solo hit features #99.
93. I'll just put a main lyric and see if anyone knows what I'm referring to: "the first line in the first page/to the last end of the last page/you were looking/from the start in your own way". Considering the sales of the album, I'm shocked that no one has made an attempt to guess it [bolded words have nothing to do with the title]. Coldplay - "Square One" (friday)
When two more get guessed correctly, I'll move on to 90-81.

I was all excited because on the way to my girlfriend's house last night, I heard "Outta Control" by 50 Cent and Mobb Deep and thought I heard the #94 line. I was hoping no one would get it before I got back. Now I see the clue again and while it's similar, what I heard was different. So nuts.
Also, I can't come up with anything else because my pop charts aren't handy tonight.

Correct . Remaining clues: 99. "I'm crazy about the way you could make me say your name/And if I couldn't have you then I'd probably go insane" Ashanti - "Only U" (crash46) 94. Had a response song on his album to an incorrectly guessed artist for this clue. Fat Joe - "So Much More" (a Nick O!) 90. [album cut] It's still on my chart, and it did that because I felt like it was unfortunate that the artist only had one single. Illegitimate child. Ben Folds - "Bastard" (mtm4319) 89. [album cut] One word, eighteen letters. A compound word that is the phonetic way of spelling a certain word. Tripping Daisy - "Geeareohdoubleyou" (a Nick O!) 88. "the mob it cries for blood" Queens of the Stone Age - "Burn the Witch" (Mega248) 87. "the heat stroke-ridden weather" Avenged Sevenfold - "Bat Country" (mtm4319) 86. [album cut] "the lines begin to blur" Nine Inch Nails - "With Teeth" (a Nick O!) 85. "only those who accept will find acceptance in return" dredg - "Bug Eyes" (crash46) 84. "you don't know what you do to me" 83. "take off them silly chains, put back on your wire" 82. "yesterday is history and tomorrow's a mystery" Social Distortion - "Reach for the Sky" (crash46) 81. "rest your head and shut your eyes"

85. dredg - Bug Eyes 82. Social D. - Reach for the Sky
Shoot, I know 99 now too: "Only U" by Ashanti. It only made, like, everyone here's chart. Of course the lyrics aren't exactly the song's strong point

LOL, I just noticed now you had reserved (I think?) 93 for me. 86) Coldplay - White Shadows ? 84) Longview - When You Sleep

Neither of those are right, unfortunately. Is that Longview song a MBV remake?... That's not very far from what I can decipher out of it... I think 84 is a bit less obscure, especially the artist.
93 was technically open for anyone, but I assumed you'd know that one most. When someone guesses 86 properly, they'll probably find out what the "trick" of that one was.

To my knowledge, it's not a remake (and I actually don't know who you mean by MBV). 86) Nine Inch Nails - The Line Begins to Blur (I'm positively stumped on the rest of these, and though I doubt you'd just give any of these away unless it was extremely obscure, I feel it's worth a shot.)

MBV=my bloody valentine.
Actually, my idea was to get people to think it was "The Line Begins to Blur", which also did end up on the year-end chart.
It's not like I'm the exclusive person here who charted 88 and 84, so I think those should sink in a bit. 81, on the other hand...

94 oughta be "So Much More" by Fat Joe. And dammit, I missed out on "Bat Country" and "Reach for the Sky." Grr. 89. Tripping Daisy "Geeareohdoubleyou" (I only count 17 letters, however.) I'm too tired to go listen to it to make sure, but my first guess for #86 is "With Teeth" by NIN. Finally, I don't yet recognize any of those 3 you just referred to.

88. "the mob it cries for blood/to twist the tale into fire wood" Queens of the Stone Age - "Burn the Witch" (Mega248) 84. "I don't know what to do with you/'Cause you don't know what you do to me" 83. "you're print distrified, you're no longer desired/sotake off them silly chains, put back on your wires" Artist had a song that crossed over at about the same time as this one, and this didn't. 81. "first off, let me say you look so tired/rest your head and shut your eyes" This artist, on the other hand, has never made any singles charts of any kind. This is kind of a quiet part of the song, though. Some of you probably at least know the artist.
I just thought perhaps it'd make it a bit easier to mention that 83 and 81 pretty much have nothing in common musically.

88) The Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God 81) Vast - Turquoise (though this technically violates the "never made any singles charts" part of your clue)
|
|
|
Post by halo19 on Jan 12, 2006 0:53:15 GMT -4
Once again, neither is actually it. "Oh My God" will appear way later, and I noticed "Turquoise" didn't have enough points this year to appear on the top 100. But by this point, it looks like (#88) artist for the correct answer's biggest hit might be true about my clue.
Also, while the first two VAST albums were on Elektra, the artist I'm thinking of has no albums/singles on a major label. I don't know if it's really more obscure, but on this board it might be.

I'm not sure any of the four made your chart in particular, but I've seen it on others. But some of those have been in this part of the board and never managed to answer, so...
88. "there they are/the mob it cries for blood/to twist the tale/into fire wood/fan the flames with a little lie" This song had the big majority of grades put on in the last report card this song appeared on. [Looking at my current chart wouldn't hurt & I think it actually appeared on both created on this board] Queens of the Stone Age - "Burn the Witch" (Mega248) 84. See earlier clue. It's kind of hard to do this one and not include the song title. Sort of a side-project artist. 83. I guess that since this wasn't big, no one would know from non-chorus lyrics. This song, like his other one that crossed over from the album, has two guests. The artist had a bunch of hits in 2000-2001. 81. The song title is not in the lyrics and neither was the predecessor single (which if you take out the first few letters of that one is the name of a band).

Um, you all are sure you don't have an idea for #88? I figure that one would have been guessed already. Band is probably way more well-known than the song and said artist performed this live.
Some help for 81: Band referenced in that clue did not release an album this year, although there was one released last year.
