This one is from the vantage point of one seat to the left of me: Heh. Why, is that where you had your tripod set up? Ready for song #2. (Kind of disappointed that the backdrop and jumper are the same as last summer, though I don't remember that dude struggling so much at my show.) I think the sets of steps might be new. I don't recall those.

Lol, that would have been the s***tiest tripod ever, if that was the case.
The next song was "Critical Acclaim".

Fitz and the Tantrums set list, for my own posterity, more than anything else.
01. Don't Gotta Work It Out 02. Winds of Change 03. Breaking the Chains of Love 04. Wake Up [new song] 05. Pickin' Up the Pieces 06. Rich Girls 07. Dear Mr. President 08. L.O.V. 09. Tighter 10. 6 AM [new song] 11. News 4 U 12. Sweet Dreams Are Made of This [cover, obviously] Encore: 12. "Saturday's Child" [Completely unidentified, but apparently a "Walker Brothers" cover] 13. We Don't Need Love Songs [from their EP] 14. MoneyGrabber
I didn't even like the show that much and realized way too late that I only truly wholeheartedly enjoy 4 of the 10 songs on the album. I realize it would've been an unsatisfyingly short set for most, but if they'd just played those 10 songs, I would've been cool. But they threw in 5 extra ones, which drove me up the wall, because I was dying to leave the stuffy, packed basement club with a band I only half-ass like to begin with, and whose frontman I found to be distractingly awkward and had an annoying haircut to boot.
I guess it's kind of a good thing they were charging $15 for the album, because I would've bought it for 10. As the show went on, and I tallied up the 6 songs I was lukewarm at best on, I realized I was never going to be more into the music than I was right then and there and that I ultimately would have buyer's remorse if I spent money on a physical copy.

OMD @ the Fox Theater, Oakland CA, 3/26: (It's not up on setlist.fm yet, but most of the setlists from the other tour stops are the same, and it seemed to follow from what I remember, so):
1. New Babies: New Toys 2. Messages 3. Tesla Girls 4. Radio Waves 5. History Of Modern (Part 1) 6. (Forever) Live and Die 7. If You Leave 8. Souvenir 9. Joan Of Arc 10. Maid Of Orleans 11. New Holy Ground 12. Green 13. Talking Loud And Clear 14. So In Love 15. Sister Marie Says 16. Locomotion 17. Dreaming 18. Sailing on the Seven Seas 19. Enola Gay
Encore: 20. Walking On The Milky Way 21. Electricity
First US tour in over two decades & they did not disappoint. This one wasn't sold out but some of their other stops were. I guess they're an 80s band that can still get away with charging for shows (most of them seem to be relegated to the county fair/pride circuits, if they don't just ignore the US altogether. The major exception I can think of is Depeche Mode.) The audience was singing along with most of their songs. And when he busted out the sax on "If You Leave"...ohhhh man!!!!!

I didn't go to Lauryn Hill on Friday, which I technically realized I could have done later. But I think this 5-hour-late showing which is basically true to form from what I've read and is going to be more costly for her and getting fans to see her in the future. I would never pay $60 just to get ripped off like that. hopefully, I'll see Dillinger/Deftones next month, which I might soon pay for. On 7/22, A Perfect Circle come by.

Took The Girl to see Arcade Fire and The National (two of her current favorite bands) a couple weeks back. Pretty sure she was impressed that I knew every song both bands played by name, that I didn't have to ask her for any song title help as I kept track of their setlists in my phone. 01. Start a War 02. Anyone's Ghost 03. Brainy 04. Bloodbuzz Ohio 05. Slow Show 06. Afraid of Everyone 07. Conversation 16 08. Abel 09. Apartment Story 10. England 11. Fake Empire 12. Mr. November 13. Terrible Love 01. Ready to Start 02. Rebellion (Lies) 03. Neighborhood #2 (Laika) 04. Empty Room 05. Modern Man 06. Rococo 07. The Suburbs 08. Intervention 09. No Cars Go 10. Haiti 11. We Used to Wait 12. Keep the Car Running 13. Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) 14. Wake Up
Encore: 15. Month of May 16. Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) 17. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

Saw Avenged Sevenfold a week ago. Glad I never got around to watching more than one clip of the show Steve saw, because it was the same except for a couple songs. In fact, it was still very similar to the one I saw last summer, looking back. I hate to lose "Beast and the Harlot," but it's a relief to have "Bat Country" added back in there. Plus an encore this time, since it wasn't a radio festival.
01. Nightmare 02. Critical Acclaim 03. Welcome to the Family 04. Almost Easy 05. Buried Alive 06. So Far Away 07. Afterlife 08. God Hates Us 09. Bat Country 10. Unholy Confessions
Encore: 11. Fiction 12. Save Me
"So Far Away" was still an eye-misting tribute to Jimmy.
Not expecting "Beast and the Harlot" in the encore, I had no clue what songs they would play. Impressed that they pulled out "Fiction" (assisted by piano from the Rev's ghost), since I had assumed, without Jimmy, that would be one that would never get played live. Not expecting to be sent home with "Beast and the Harlot" either, I was completely blown away that they took on the 11-minute "Save Me." Too bad, so sad for the casual fans that they closed with 3 relatively lesser known songs in a row, but as a diehard, I was over the moon knowing this would probably be the only time I would ever witness those final 2 songs performed live.

Deftones last week. So many good shows stacked within 5 days of each other that it dulls my appreciation a little bit for any of them. Did I mention that I'm seeing Social Distortion (and of a notably lesser but still significant extent, Manchester Orchestra) this week? And that Sevendust opened for Avenged and the Dillinger Escape Plan opened for the Deftones? 01. Diamond Eyes 02. Rocket Skates 03. Birthmark 04. Engine No. 9 05. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 06. My Own Summer (Shove It) 07. Digital Bath 08. Korea 09. Knife Prty 10. Hexagram 11. Minerva 12. Bloody Cape 13. You've Seen the Butcher 14. Sextape 15. Beauty School 16. Feiticeira 17. Elite 18. Change (In the House of Flies) 19. Passenger [feat. Greg Puciato] 20. Back to School (Mini-Maggit) Encore: 21. Root 22. 7 Words Birthmark, Korea, Knife Prty, Bloody Cape, Beauty School, and Elite were all unexpected treats. On the other hand, where were "Bored," "Around the Fur," and "Hole in the Earth"? (Or anything off Saturday Night Wrist, for that matter? )

Social Distortion:
01. Road Zombie 02. So Far Away 03. King of Fools 04. Bad Luck 05. Mommy's Little Monster 06. Sick Boys 07. Machine Gun Blues 08. Ball and Chain 09. Down on the World Again 10. Bakersfield 11. Gimme the Sweet and Lowdown 12. Down Here (w/ the Rest of Us)* 13. Reach for the Sky* 14. Making Believe
Encore: 15. Prison Bound 16. Story of My Life 17. Ring of Fire
* Songs were unfortunately reworked with folksy instrumentation, assisted by opener Chuck Ragan's fiddler. I haven't heard those songs enough live to be OK with any drastic arrangement changes.
Without cellphone or paper, I can't believe I was able to memorize their entire setlist as they went along. Assigning each song its sequential number helped, but that hasn't always worked in the past. I guess knowing the songs as well as I do just made it easy.
I realize they have an hour and a half to play with, which is ample, and they now have seven albums to select from, but I was expecting to hear these and didn't: The Creeps I Was Wrong California (Hustle and Flow)
It also would've been nice to hear: Another State of Mind Don't Drag Me Down When the Angels Sing Highway 101 Don't Take Me for Granted Far Behind Diamond in the Rough
Wishful thinking: Anything/Everything else off White Light White Heat White Trash Anything/Everything else off Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll

In fact, it was still very similar to the one I saw last summer, looking back. Yeah, I actually was wondering if you ever were gonna get back to that. Then when I saw you were attending a show of your own, it all made sense. I assume you never looked at the setlist until after your show. I'm seeing Dredg again a week from Sunday, first time in a headlining role in quite some time. Guess it's about time for me to get off my ass and onto that new record of theirs.

Bad Religion from earlier this week: 01. The Day That the Earth Stalled 02. Wrong Way Kids 03. American Jesus 04. Before You Die 05. Let Them Eat War [with Jay Bentley doing his best Sage Francis impression]06. The Resist Stance 07. Cyanide [sounds much better with the same guitar tone the rest of their songs have]08. Meeting of the Minds 09. Do What You Want 10. Social Suicide 11. Dearly Beloved 12. Infected 13. We're Only Gonna Die (From Our Own Arrogance) 14. Los Angeles Is Burning [been awhile since I heard this one live]15. Sorrow

01. Another Tribe 02. Upon Returning 03. Not That Simple 04. Bug Eyes 05. Information 06. Of the Room 07. Whoa Is Me 08. [instrumental interlude] 09. Light Switch 10. Lechium 11. Planting Seeds 12. The Thought of Losing You 13. The Tent 14. Down Without a Fight 15. Hung Over on a Tuesday 16. The Canyon Behind Her
Encore: 17. Ode to the Sun 18. Down to the Cellar
Fine show, but so many songs they can't fit in anymore, 5 albums deep. And considering the encore wasn't planned, I'm lucky I got "Ode to the Sun." I was looking forward to hearing: Same Ol' Road Catch Without Arms Sang Real Pariah
Would've been nice: Sanzen Zebraskin Mourning This Morning Cartoon Showroom
Wishful thinking: Matroshka
And if they were gonna play anything off Leitmotif I would have much rather heard "Symbol Song" instead of "Lechium." Steve, I hope you're hitting the new record a fair amount, because you can expect to hear almost half of it.

^Same show for me, minus the encore. That instrumental was actually from "Movement V" from Leitmotif. Not like I didn't have to look that one up. Two day cram session got me ready with the new record. Hearing some El Cielo tracks besides "Same Ol' Road" and "Triangle" was nice, even though I'd say those are the two best tracks on that one. It doesn't really matter anymore what songs they play because, for all intents and purposes, they don't have any singles to play. My Leitmotif song of choice actually would have been "Yatahaze", but considering I'd never seen them play anything off that album, no complaints here.

Sleigh Bells (and CSS) on May 17:
1. Crown On The Ground 2. Tell 'Em 3. Kids 4. Treats 5. Riot Rhythm 6. Infinity Guitars 7. Holly 8. Rill Rill 9. Straight A's 10. A/B Machines
Didn't end up staying for CSS' set since I wasn't feeling well, and I just wanted to see Sleigh Bells anyway.
Coming up include Robyn with Natalia Kills (June 3), Rihanna with Cee Lo Green (June 6), and Girl Talk (July 8). Was hoping to see shows from Foster the People and Lykke Li, but they were all sold out way in advance.

Coming up include Robyn with Natalia Kills (June 3) There were talks that Robyn was going to be in my neck of the woods somewhere around this first weekend of June, but obviously that didn't pan out. She'll be in your area instead. (Side note: I checked out Body Talk from the library a couple days ago.)

(Side note: I checked out Body Talk from the library a couple days ago.) She was actually here back in January (postponed from November due to illness), but her show sold out way in advance and I wasn't able to get tickets. Her show in June will be the first one in a new outdoor medium-capacity venue, so I'm pretty excited for that. I'm glad she's coming back again though, because otherwise the only way to see her live would be to see her open for Katy Perry. How do you like Body Talk?

How do you like Body Talk? I'm only 5 songs deep into it so far. (Most of my library CDs aren't high priority listens. I'll rip them to my computer for sure, but may or may not get around to listening to them in full, if at all, before they're due back. Robyn has a good chance of getting played in full before the CD comes due.)

The Dillinger Escape Plan set list: 1. Farewell, Mona Lisa (But I missed getting the chance to really hear this one; it was playing while I was getting my ticket would be walking inside for the seat.) 2. Milk Lizard 3. Panasonic Youth 4. Chinese Whispers 5. Room Full of Eyes 6. Gold Teeth on a Bum 7. Black Bubblegum 8. Sunshine the Werewolf 9. 43% Burnt
While I would have preferred to had gotten to see them in spring '05 when the setlist probably had more songs & more Miss Machine at that, this was fantastic. And it went beyond just the songs..
Now that setlist.fm has been completed (finally!): 01. Diamond Eyes 02. Rocket Skates 03. Birthmark 04. Engine No. 9 05. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 06. My Own Summer (Shove It) 07. Knife Prty 08. Korea 09. Digital Bath 10. Bloody Cape 11. Minerva 12. Sextape 13. You've Seen the Butcher 14. Kimdracula 15. Feiticeira 16. Elite 17. Change (In the House of Flies) 18. Passenger (w/ Greg Puciato) 19. Back to School (Mini-Maggit)
Encore: 20. Root 21. 7 Words
When they started adding in those omissions, it made more sense to me.

U2 (w/ Lenny Kravitz) @ the Oakland Coliseum, 6/7/11 (rescheduled from 6/11/10): 1. Even Better Than The Real Thing 2. I Will Follow 3. Get On Your Boots 4. Magnificent 5. Mysterious Ways 6. Elevation 7. Until The End Of The World 8. All I Want Is You 9. Stay (Faraway, So Close!) 10. Beautiful Day 11. Pride (In The Name Of Love) 12. Miss Sarajevo 13. Zooropa 14. City Of Blinding Lights 15. Vertigo 16. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (w/ Discotheque, Life During Wartime) 17. Sunday Bloody Sunday 18. Scarlet 19. Walk On 20. One 21. Where the Streets Have No Name Encore: 22. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me 23. With Or Without You 24. Moment of Surrender I'm a sucker for good visual effects, and U2 nailed it. I was also thrilled that they performed most of my favorite "lesser singles" (Walk On, Until the End of the World, HMTMKMKM & especially City of Blinding Lights -- though the last one really should have been a much bigger hit than it was). The only semi-obscure single I would have wanted them to play that they didn't was Numb, but I guess that would have been too much to ask. For popular singles, the only one I was really disappointed they didn't play was New Years Day. Lenny Kravitz was pretty awesome too, too bad he only did 7 songs and not the ones I would have liked (except for Fly Away.) Attendance was at nearly 70,000. :-O Word is it was sold out, although I checked and they did have tickets available the last day. Maybe they just said that because it sounds better. There were a ton of unoccupied seats, although part of that could have been because of the traffic jams that caused thousands of people to sit in traffic and miss most/all of the concert: news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_localsfo/20110609/ts_yblog_localsfo/disgruntled-u2-fans-consider-legal-action-after-missing-concert

I assume everybody who'd want to has already seen Jimmy Eat World recently, by this point. Forgive me if I spoil anything for anyone. Straight from the setlist, though I was able to remember everything in order but the names of two of the Clarity songs. 01. Bleed American 02. My Best Theory 03. Coffee and Cigarettes 04. Lucky Denver Mint 05. Let It Happen 06. Ten (couldn't remember the title)07. Futures 08. Big Casino 09. Dizzy 10. Action Needs an Audience 11. Pain 12. 23 13. Evidence 14. Hear You Me 15. Work (wasn't sure if I could expect this one)16. Blister (couldn't remember the title)17. Goodbye Sky Harbor Encore: 18. Invented 19. The Middle 20. Sweetness No "A Praise Chorus," but otherwise, having never seen them before, they played everything I realistically expected them to play. Emoticons indicate pleasant surprises.

Converge 01. Concubine 02. Dark Horse 03. Heartache 04. Hellbound 05. Lonewolves 06. Runaway 07. Bitter and Then Some 08. The High Cost of Playing God 09. Reap What You Sow 10. Cutter 11. Worms Will Feed/Rats Will Feast 12. On My Shield 13. Axe to Fall 14. Wishing Well 15. Damages 16. First Light 17. Eagles Become Vultures 18. The Broken Vow Thankfully, since Jacob's vocals are usually unintelligible, unless you've memorized any lyrics, their tour setlist is unchanged from night to night on this tour. I typed it into my phone beforehand and was then able to follow along with my own makeshift concert program. Unfortunately, some cities on the tour got treated to an encore, which was always "Last Light" (which I would've loved to hear), occasionally preceded by "Drop Out."

I've been waiting nine years to get my Frisbee back to see Jimmy Eat World. Hilarious tongue-in-cheek explanation for their uncharacteristic use of the F-word during the first track of the new record (They were looking for a 'bad boy' image). They played "Movielike" at your show, you bastard. I was hoping I'd get to hear that one since it was listed third on the sticker on the Invented cellophane, making me think it would've been the third single if "Coffee and Cigarettes" had performed better. (Though "Littlething" picked up some surprising [read: KROQ?] airplay simultaneously.) No such luck. Anyway, what's the Frisbee story? Also, they just randomly mentioned the f-word on the new album without actually playing the song it's from?

Anyway, what's the Frisbee story? Also, they just randomly mentioned the f-word on the new album without actually playing the song it's from? Yeah, they didn't even play that opening track. And I haven't gone back and looked at my setlist, but that one looks rather different from the one I saw, which at the time, was showing no variation from night to night. Makes me want to not miss them again like I did when they came to Cleveland earlier this year.

Those covers added very little excitement to the overall experience. Then they want to try and play a remix of "3 Libras" that was barely even recognizable, only because it included a few lines of lyrics it shared with the original. No "Judith" (really, guys? ), or "Blue", either. This just could have been so much better.[/spoiler]

always an interesting thread to see, as I must have forgotten that Toad had even gotten back together. at APC. I actually knew people who would have also wanted to go (along with me), but after seeing that, I think we'll all be better off skipping it. That's how disappointed I was to look at it. The next thing I knowingly will see is Battles, and that's awhile from now. Since Thrice have an album in September, hopefully I'll get a chance to get to see them.

[spoiler=Avenged Sevenfold - 7/15/11 Soaring Eagle Casino Resort - Mount Pleasant, MI] Nightmare Critical Acclaim Welcome To The Family Almost Easy Buried Alive So Far Away Afterlife God Hates Us A Little Piece of Heaven Bat Country Unholy Confessions Encore: Save Me Well, I needed that. Even though there was just two setlist changes from the last time I'd seen them, it didn't matter. I even had a good time watching Sevendust, who only played two songs I recognized, and Seether, who just ran off seven of their hit singles, without humiliating themselves (unlike the last time I'd seen them). The venue even gave everyone in the crowd $20 to gamble with, which I was able to convert into $15 of real money to add to my career gambling winnings. Good times, as always. .[/spoiler]
