50. My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade 49. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American 48. Green Day - American Idiot 47. The Velvet Underground & Nico - s/t ("All Tomorrow's Parties" being the song in question)
It might not make a difference for #43, but I don't know what ACL stands for.

Wow are this particular forum ever slow these day. (But still it didn't take long for over half of the entries to be guessed right). Still, I'll go from where it was left.
48. In spite all of its singles being really big hits, they have one album that's sold even better. Covers from artists ranging from Mary J. Blige to KMFDM. U2 - Achtung Baby (WotUNeed)
46. A concert album done way later after this album contains the album's entirety performed, in sequence. It is the longest-running album in Billboard history. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (WotUNeed)
44. Starting pulse in music. Solo grunger's hit last year features a prominent member of this group. Sleaterk-Kinney - One Beat (a Nick O!)
43. When the White Stripes had a cancelled ACL show, these guys filled in that spot. The band's most recent release. A live album counterpart for this album was released stateside earlier this year.

44. The October 14 chart (I was getting discouraged there for a minute), led me to Eddie Vedder's "Hard Sun," which featured some broad from Sleater-Kinney (Corin Tucker? Carrie Brownstein? The other one? Yes, I do kinda know their names.), therefore One Beat is the album you're looking for.
What U2 song did KMFDM cover, btw?

"Hard Sun" featured Corin. In some older songs, her operatic howl is layered over Carrie's more girly approach in verses. Janet Weiss would be the drummer (latter five albums). She was originally in a duo called Quasi in which the other member was her ex-husband. Kind of predating the White Stripes.
KMFDM covered "Mysterious Ways" some time in the '90's.
Moving along: 43. When the White Stripes had a cancelled ACL show, these guys filled in that spot. The band's most recent release. A live album counterpart for this album was released stateside earlier this year. First Stateside hit had its video directed in Romania. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations (a Nick O!)
New clues: 40. An b-side from one of the album's international singles was their sole alternative chart-topper.
39. What was originally to be the lead single got left off the album and put on a hits collection, because the band felt the song was too poppy for the album.
38. There's a movie about the lead singer that was made last year and I believe another one later. Joy Division - Heart and Soul (friday)
37. Album cover is part of a short film (spy movie) that got the band signed. Portishead - Dummy (a Nick O!)
36. The vinyl version has a record made to look like a section of a log (hint). Sleater-Kinney - The Woods (friday)
35. They had a split live EP (iTunes-only) with Thursday in promotion of this album. Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance (a Nick O!)
34. No one knows what the person is saying at the ending of one of the music videos. Radiohead - The Bends (WotUNeed)
33. The back booklet includes a depiction of CA after an earthquake. Tool - Ænima (a Nick O!)
32. The last studio album they recorded but not the last released, as the band initally shelved an album before then. The Beatles - Abbey Road (a Nick O!)
31. Title song was re-recorded on the Stateside version of the next album, with David Bowie guesting. Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing (a Nick O!)

Some shots in the dark and one actual confident guess. 43. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations 39. The Clash - London Calling 38. The Germs - (MIA): The Complete Anthology 36. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia 35. Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance 33. Tool - Ænima 32. The Beatles - Abbey Road 31. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

Well, 3 of those wild card shots were right. London Calling appeared much earlier. "Province" by TVOTR actually features Bowie in the second verse, the original song. (It was the follow-up to "WLM.") Two of those will appear later.

It looks like what was guess-able has already been done.
New clues: 40. A b-side from one of the album's international singles was their sole alternative chart-topper. Three of five singles here were one-word titles.
39. What was originally to be the lead single got left off the album and put on a hits collection, because the band felt the song was too poppy for the album. The first single with the lead singer contributing to songwriting managed to scrape the alternative chart.
38. There's a movie about the lead singer that was made last year and I believe another one later. On his epitaph his wife wrote the title of their most famous song.
37. Album cover is part of a short film (spy movie) that got the band signed. From Bristol.
36. The vinyl version has a record made to look like a section of a log (hint). The band's final album and closest thing release-wise to mainstream (if you count the bigger indie where it was released).
31. Title song was re-recorded on the Stateside version of the next album, with David Bowie guesting. It has their only Top 20 hit, but years later they'd scrape.

37 is probably Dummy by Portishead (and only because earlier tonight I read the RS review of Tricky's new album, which mentions Bristol and Portishead)
Other than that, I got nothing still.

Extending things a bit: 40. A b-side from one of the album's international singles was their sole alternative chart-topper. Three of five singles here were one-word titles. In/out.
39. What was originally to be the lead single got left off the album and put on a hits collection, because the band felt the song was too poppy for the album. The first single with the lead singer contributing to songwriting managed to scrape the alternative chart. The Bravery supported tour dates on the album.
38. There's a movie about the lead singer that was made last year and I believe another one later. On his epitaph his wife wrote the title of their most famous song. Reserved for friday since that's the artist. It's a multi-disc album.
31. Title song was re-recorded on the Stateside version of the next album, with David Bowie guesting. It has their only Top 20 hit, but years later they'd scrape. Featured recently on an American band's festival.

Doesn't look like the previous stuff worked. : 40. A b-side from one of the album's international singles was their sole alternative chart-topper. Three of five singles here were one-word titles.In/out.More to do with a phrase of the band/album's name than any single. Biggest hit here samples/loops another artist's biggest track.39. What was originally to be the lead single got left off the album and put on a hits collection, because the band felt the song was too poppy for the album. The first single with the lead singer contributing to songwriting managed to scrape the alternative chart. The Bravery supported tour dates on the album. The lead single didn't get to the Top 20, but managed over 15 weeks on the alternative chart.38. There's a movie about the lead singer that was made last year and I believe another one later. On his epitaph his wife wrote the title of their most famous song. Reserved for friday since that's the artist. It's a multi-disc album. Well he'd get half a point anyway for knowing the artist. This includes entire studio albums, too.
31. Title song was re-recorded on the Stateside version of the next album, with David Bowie guesting. It has their only Top 20 hit, but years later they'd scrape. Featured recently on an American band's festival. A track here was used on Cruel Intentions.

Well, I did look it up, but I didn't think you were including box sets. 38 is Heart and Soul.

Post by halo19 on Nov 5, 2008 0:23:04 GMT -4
Heart and Soul is the sole selection that is a box set. I guess it's a cop-out but it saves space, mostly for what was used on the two albums and on Substance. The first two discs on the box are golden. And then 1/3 of the tracks on disc 3 are rare and interesting enough (Though the Warsaw EP's tracks can be heard in separate parts of Substance, too). Last disc though is just live.
I'll get 30-20 clues done later, since it's well cleared enough.

And it's here! 40. A b-side from one of the album's international singles was their sole alternative chart-topper. Three of five singles here were one-word titles. In/out. More to do with a phrase of the band/album's name than any single. Biggest hit here samples/loops a bigger song from a well respected band. [fixed] "b-side" track was used for a soundtrack after album's course.
39. What was originally to be the lead single got left off the album and put on a hits collection, because the band felt the song was too poppy for the album. The first single with the lead singer contributing to songwriting managed to scrape the alternative chart. The Bravery supported tour dates on the album. The lead single didn't get to the Top 20, but managed over 15 weeks on the alternative chart. The best-of single isn't as well known as some stuff from particular album, not suprising for a band that's been around for as long.
New stuff: 30. Shiny Toy Guns covered a song from this album. Depeche Mode - Black Celebration (a Nick O!)
29. Featuring a song with possibly a misleadinig punctuation to the title. System of a Down - Mezmerize (crash46)
28. Hole reference.
27. Released at the opposite end of the year.
26. A compound word of Zodiacs. OutKast - Aquemini (WotUNeed)
25. Part of the intro has an extra easter egg, 20 seconds before the start. AFI - Decemberunderground (friday)
24. Except for part of its next release their albums are all one word titles.
23. Some people interpret the album as being themed about a serial killer.
22. The songs unlisted in the track listing still exist are still in the lyric booklet. AFI - Sing the Sorrow (crash46)
21. The first album to not feature the classic lineup and only one excluding a particular member.

27) AFI - Decemberunderground (though, I guess it could also qualify for 25) Well if it isn't 27, then... 25. ? (I only know of two albums that have a "track 0" and not only would those not be this high on your list, they're longer than 20 seconds.) Songs for the Deaf has one that lasts for a minute and a half, titled "The Real Song for the Deaf." Included earlier. And then I know Lit had one on APITS which before owning a certain NIN album for awhile was my favorite album up until that point. Out of curiosity, which ones are you sure have the track?

27) AFI - Decemberunderground (though, I guess it could also qualify for 25) Well if it isn't 27, then... What the f***? Why wasn't I told about this? Why did I never read anything about this? Why does Wikipedia know about an AFI track 0 that I didn't know about, but not this one? I'm getting somebody fired for this. Who's in charge here? Is Don on the phone? 25. ? (I only know of two albums that have a "track 0" and not only would those not be this high on your list, they're longer than 20 seconds.) Out of curiosity, which ones are you sure have the track? 311's Transistor has a nearly two-minute instrumental at the beginning that was used on their first home video the fall before. And "Howard J. Reynolds" tells a story before he introduces Less Than Jake's Losing Streak album at the beginning of "Automatic."

F*ck me, that's two AFI albums I missed in this segment...
As Mike Shannon has taken to saying in Cardinals radio broadcasts whenever Albert Pujols hits a home run: "That's like trying to sneak the sun past the rooster."
...Only Kirk was successful in my case.
