By the way, which New Order song did Rihanna interpolate? "Shut Up and Drive" uses the music from "Blue Monday."

Speaking of Gravity Kills, Kirk, my station randomly dusted off "Enough" this morning.

In spite the fact that it was reposted for clues just 3 days ago, I feel it's long enough for others to have seen it by now.
74. No singles were released officially from this album yet interestingly there was a song from a short-form release that was. First album they made in their current lineup. Named after an Elvis Costello b-side.
73. Includes a song once used on a Nissan commercial, although many casual people probably aren't aware of that. Lyrics are quite questionable in its context, though. A few to several years before SSPU. Never a major hit but probably their most well known song at that point. Geographical title, kinda-sorta.
68. Indie label album had their first minor/moderate radio hit, although usually overshadowed by later stuff. The song's music video shows a backward slow motion of the bassist bouncing a ping pong ball. Album was later reissued on their major label but not until the actual hit album had run its course already.
67. In spite being regarded as the artist's great work and selling well it didn't have an actual chart-topping hit, at least at the main radio format. This was one of several songs/albums where an ambient producer worked with more big pop artists. The album missed the top spot on Billboard's sales due to a huge-selling soundtrack at the time. Madonna - Ray of Light (a Nick O!)
62. It's how you follow up after the rehabilitation program. They made a political music video to the "sequel"/remix version of one of the album's songs. Band's logo is misleading to the name. A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step (a Nick O!)

Having a hunch that it was 1998 you were referring to, I went to Wikipedia and looked up "1998 in music" and then "albums released." I soon landed on Madonna's Ray of Light and went to its page to confirm that it was shut out of #1 by Titanic. (Although, arguably Like a Prayer could also be regarded as her "greatest work." Not in my opinion, though.)

Yes, Ray of Light it is.
With what's left:
74. No singles were released officially from this album yet interestingly there was a song from a short-form release that was. First album they made in their current lineup. Named after an Elvis Costello b-side. One of two albums that have a "special message" on the jewel sleeve. AFI - Black Sails in the Sunset (a Nick O!)
73. Includes a song once used on a Nissan commercial, although many casual people probably aren't aware of that. Lyrics are quite questionable in its context, though. A few to several years before SSPU. Never a major hit but probably their most well known song at that point. Geographical title, kinda-sorta. Both of these places are isolated. Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica (crash46)
68. Indie label album had their first minor/moderate radio hit, although usually overshadowed by later stuff. The song's music video shows a backward slow motion of the bassist bouncing a ping pong ball. Album was later reissued on their major label but not until the actual hit album had run its course already. Rhymes with a certain jam band. Smashing Pumpkins - Gish (a Nick O!)
Next, we've got: 61. Each thread (i.e. message boards) has at least one of these. Björk - Post (WotUNeed)
60. This album's title says something three times. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (friday)
59. Both of its singles won a Grammy, but I think one of them was a live performance. Nine Inch Nails - Broken (EP) (a Nick O!)
58. Fairly unknown album from a band that has an album that was correctly guessed much ealier. I'll try extending it to make it a better clue later. Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground (crash46)
57. In spite apparently having no "official" singles, it had a nice hit and is one of their most acclaimed records, even if one that initially divided some fans. Radiohead - Kid A (WotUNeed)
56. They released a digital covers EP as a companion. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine (a Nick O!)
55. One of the music videos shows them playing hackey sack. Weezer (The Blue Album) (a Nick O!)
54. Lead single is the second of three songs about a fictional character made up from the lead singer. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way (crash46)
53. Unlike most of the time, this album's music videos were not directed by Anton Corbijn. Depeche Mode - Exciter (a Nick O!)
52. On the alternative chart, this nearly mirrored the success of their biggest album, down to the third single being a cover. The White Stripes - Icky Thump (radical347)
51. An oft-delayed album from an artist who at the time may have had bigger success with a cameo song than any of these, of his own. Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor (WotUNeed)

This must be AFI's Black Sails in the Sunset. (So Elvis Costello has a b-side named "Black Sails in the Sunset"?) 68. (Still don't know what I'm looking for with #73. ) 59. Nine Inch Nails - Wish 56. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine 55. Weezer - (The Blue Album) 53. Gotta be a Depeche Mode album. I'll guess Exciter.

Four more left to go and we'll be in the Top 50.
58. Fairly unknown album from a band that has an album that was correctly guessed much ealier. I'll try extending it to make it a better clue later. People may use this term to refer to a sacred space or something.
57. In spite apparently having no "official" singles, it had a nice hit and is one of their most acclaimed records, even if one that initially divided some fans. Hit's title is not an adjective that people generally use to describe their music.
52. On the alternative chart, this nearly mirrored the success of their biggest album, down to the third single being a cover. Immigration is a theme of the big single.
51. An oft-delayed album from an artist who at the time may have had bigger success with a cameo song than any of these, of his own. It's a debut album.

51. Kanye West - The College Dropout?
Regarding 58, The only word that's coming to mind referring to a "sacred space" is sanctuary. That doesn't bring anything to mind.
Still got nothing for 52.

Once again, keep in mind that each artist here has another previously correctly guessed entry.
58. Fairly unknown album from a band that has an album that was correctly guessed much ealier. I'll try extending it to make it a better clue later. People may use this term to refer to a sacred space or something. The most obscure album probably remaining, it's from the group who made a response this year to the cover song they had two years ago. It's the album after the first album, and you can look that up.
52. On the alternative chart, this nearly mirrored the success of their biggest album, down to the third single being a cover. Immigration is a theme of the big single. That song's video features subtitles en Español (mostly.)
51. An oft-delayed album from an artist who at the time may have had bigger success with a cameo song than any of these, of his own. It's a debut album. Kanye West is on the right track, just pick up from first clue and you'll get it.

An additional to #52: Variants of the lyrics on big song are found in previous two clues. Both this and previous album had promotion that immediately stopped because of main member's other band.

Now we've got that one done! The top 50 will get done later this week, but right now I'll post the recap and points.
1h. The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 99. Kanye West - Late Registration 98. Weezer - (Green Album) 97. Portishead - s/t 96. Rancid - Let's Go 95. Hot Hot Heat - Make Up the Breakdown 94. Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West I just found out earlier that "Polar Opposites" was their first radio single (as in, official promo), in 1998. I put "radio" in there because in the indie-label days the singles were separate from albums. 93. The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin 92. Nirvana - In Utero 91. U2 - War 90. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf 89. Depeche Mode - Music for the Masses 88. Kaiser Chiefs - Employment But I wasn't anywhere near as into the next album. 87. Thrice - The Illusion of Safety 86. Big Punisher - Capital Punishment 85. Minor Threat - Complete Discography 84. AFI - The Art of Drowning 83. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine 82. Nirvana - Nevermind 81. Harvey Danger - King James Version 80. Fugees - The Score 79. The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives 78. Lupe Fiasco - The Cool 77. Tool - 10,000 Days 76. Gravity Kills - s/t 75. Madonna - The Immaculate Collection 74. AFI - The Art of Drowning 73. Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica 72. Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape I'm not really an expert but I hear they do the same thing each time out, so I'll assume that most people's favorite FF album is the first one they hear. I have One and will probably get the s/t later. 71. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral 70. Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies (EP) 69. Kanye West - Graduation 68. Smashing Pumpkins - Gish Amazing, since the first four albums are all in the Top 75, but the last two weren't really considered. 67. Madonna - Ray of Light 66. New Order - Substance 65. The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan 64. Stone Temple Pilots - Purple 63. Nirvana - In Utero 62. A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step 61. Björk - Post 60. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 59. Nine Inch Nails - Broken (EP) 58. Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground "Country Death Song," "Black Girls" and "Jesus Walking on the Water" are all on the first retrospective album. "CDS" is based on a true story; yikes!) 57. Radiohead - Kid A 56. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine 55. Weezer - (Blue Album) 54. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way 53. Depeche Mode - Exciter 52. The White Stripes - Icky Thump 51. Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor

72. Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape I'm not really an expert but I hear they do the same thing each time out, so I'll assume that most people's favorite FF album is the first one they hear. I have One and will probably get the s/t later. While TC&TS has amazing songs like "Everlong," "Hey Johnny Park!", and "My Hero," it has several songs that are essentially filler, such as "Doll," "Enough Space," "Up in Arms," and the dull "February Stars." Also "Walking After You" is arguably dull, and "New Way Home" takes too long to develop. Entertaining the argument that the s/t is the one I heard first and is therefore my favorite, "Weenie Beenie" and "Wattershed" would be the "filler" tracks, with "X-Static" being "arguably dull" and "Exhausted" taking "too long to develop." Perhaps "For All the Cows" could be considered "arguably dull" to some folks, akin to "February Stars." Or maybe switch it with "X-Static." "Big Me" might be the short fluffy love song on the record, comparable to "Up in Arms" or "See You." Nevertheless, I feel the self-titled is the superior album in terms of consistency. And superior to any of their subsequent albums, as well. Also, this is the first time I consciously thought about it, but the production isn't quite as slick as their other albums. Their past 4 albums, in particular, all have an air of production based on being an established successful band. 58. Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground "Country Death Song," "Black Girls" and "Jesus Walking on the Water" are all on the first retrospective album. "CDS" is based on a true story; yikes!)I read the lyrics just now. Yikes, indeed.

Alright. Really the last 10+ entries is where it begins getting more tighter but now we are already into the Top 50. These probably have a big lasting impact, some you know you'll see here and at times not.
50. A band plays as another band in this release. My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade (a Nick O!)
49. In spite being an initial 9/11 victim in songs, the album and accompanying song all were very successful. System of a Down - Toxicity (friday)
48. In spite all of its singles being really big hits, they have one album that's sold even better.
47. An alt/indie music festival (yearly) was named after one of this album's songs. The Velvet Underground & Nico - s/t (a Nick O!)
46. A concert album done way later after this album contains the album's entirety performed, in sequence.
45. Guster once did covers of songs here on MTV2's Covers series. Violent Femmes - s/t (crash46)
44. Starting pulse in music.
43. When the White Stripes had a cancelled ACL show, these guys filled in that spot. The band's most recent release.
42. Cover and liner notes show the track listing in descending order. Hot Hot Heat - Elevator (WotUNeed)
41. Record label did not think an album at this length and with such a ridiculous title would sell. However it's their best selling record. The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (crash46)

All of these guesses seem somewhat off but eh
50. A band plays as another band in this release. That Foxboro Hot Tubs album? I can't even remember what it's called now.
49. In spite being an initial 9/11 victim in songs, the album and accompanying song all were very successful. Bush: Golden State was my first thought, although I guess that album probably wouldn't be called "very successful"
42. Cover and liner notes show the track listing in descending order. If the back cover counts, Hot Hot Heat's Elevator qualifies. I think. I can't remember for sure if it's in the liners too.
