www.rockband.comThis is the next Super Mario of gaming. Available for the Ps3, Wii, and Xbox360. I don't own any of the above but this game alone has me thinking about it. Comes with a 4-piece drum pad with foot pedal, a guitar simulator and a bass simulator, and a microphone. You get to pick which one(s). Or play together with others at the party, creating a full band to cover songs from the awesome soundtrack of 40+ tracks. Apparently you'll be able to download other tracks as well so it'll never get old. It's out Tuesday. I tried it out at Wal-mart, fighting off ruthless Wal-mart employees on their lunch breaks and undercover loss prevention folks. The deluxe edition (with all the instruments) has a retail of $170 and pile that onto the $250 that the Wii is running for now, and I don't think I would miss that $420 for very long if I had it.

As much fun as it may sound, it just sounds way too expensive and not practical unless you have a lot of people over all the time. I can't imagine being that fun with 1 or 2 players. Guitar Hero III sounds like a better alternative.

And then save money by only having to buy the instruments once. .

Oh boo, this is only coming out on Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3. No love for the Wii.

A Wii version hasn't been ruled out, according to an interview posted on a wikipedia article. There just hasn't been a release date set like the rest of them.
Not sure if situations like these ever materialize into anything, though.

I was at Fry's the other day (damn you Americans and your wonderful stores that we don't have in Canada) and I saw that there is actually a PC version of Guitar Hero III for those of you without the latest video game consoles. As well, I just read today that a Mac version will come out soon too.

Perhaps if there were any PC emulators for Xbox that are any good...I don't know, I haven't tried any.

Okay, I finally played this for the first time last night while I was over at my friend's party and now I want it, haha. If only it would come out for the Wii already.
The drums are so much fun to play with. The only problem with this game is that it was hard to get someone to be the singer, and to add to that problem, people that do want to sing don't know all of songs in the songlist. So for the majority of the night we ended up playing the same 5 songs over and over again, lol.
But yeah, definitely fun and definitely the ultimate party game.

I played Rock Band for the third time today. Each time has been twice as long as the previous one. I thought I was just gonna be playing it a few hours at my buddy's house this afternoon, before he and his wife (and our other friend w/ gf, who couldn't show up until then) left for Easter dinner with his in-laws. I ended up being invited, too, though, and because he thought her dad would get a kick out of the game, he boxed it all up and we took it over there. So I played even more over at his in-laws' house this evening.
I can consistently score in the 90th percentile on medium drums. Some of the songs I'd like to ramp up to "hard" next time.

So it looks like Rock Band is finally being ported to the Wii. It's coming out on June 22, but there are some catches:
- No online play - No downloadable content, but it will come with 5 extra songs - Guitar is not compatible with Guitar Hero III
I'll probably still end up getting it though...

Trying to do "Green Grass And High Tides" on Hard with the drums left me with blisters on each of the two middle fingers on the right hand. One of them actually popped during the song, that was fun, lol. I can get about midway through the song before it goes nuts and I always lose the rhythm.
I can't for the life of me pull off any drum pedal step that isn't accompanied with an arm motion, and that will kill you on the more difficult half of the songs on Hard.
Well Rock Band 2 is on its way to stores now, and this time it will have downloadable songs for the Wii, along with a more extensive soundtrack that isn't lacking in any way imaginable.

My buddy bought RB2 last Friday. Friday and Sunday I got to play a bunch of good stuff, plus carryovers from the first one, like "Critical Acclaim" and "Joker & the Thief," which is more fun to play than for me to listen to. Awesome new ones include Girl's Not Grey, That's What You Get, I Was Wrong...Hell, even station changers like One Step Closer, Man in the Box & Today were fun to tackle on drums. Make no mistake, though. Easy as GNG and OSC are on Medium, those were ass-kickers on Hard. I remember being able to go back and do "I Was Wrong" and "Man in the Box" on Hard. Maybe one other one.

Guitar Hero World Tour is also coming though, which will include apparently even better drums than Rock Band. So... now I'll have to decide which one to get. The instruments better be compatible with each other for the Wii platform (they are for PS3 and XBox 360), or else I'll be mad.

The Wii version of Rock Band 2 finally came out on Wednesday and I got a hold of it yesterday. I did an in-store pickup order at Best Buy and when I got there... surprise, surprise... they screwed up my order and only placed a hold on the set of drums when I ordered the entire special edition bundle. I told the rep that, "You gotta be kidding me. Well you guys screwed up, can you at least sell me the separate components together at the same price?" After negotiating for almost an hour and scramble all the components together, he gave me the discounted price plus $10 extra because all we could find to substitute the microphone was a set of 2 duet microphones. Whatever. I have the game, I'm happy now.

I survived "Chop Suey!" on expert drums...with no pedals, of course.
The game has the song "The Middle" from the album Bleed American. Thumbs up to them for knowing the score.

I've played the first one twice: Once on a PS3 and once on Wii.
The first time was a bunch of fun. I played that with a co-worker and her boyfriend and we usually switched what instruments we'd play. Wasn't as bad as I thought I'd be on the drums, heh.
My 11-year old cousin got the Wii version as a Christmas gift. Some of my family played along with it, as well. "Roxanne" was a bitch for us all, for awhile.

Guitar Hero World Tour is also coming though, which will include apparently even better drums than Rock Band. Holy f***, it does! I played at a friend's house last night, and not only do the drum pads offer an ideal bounce (identical to the practice pad I've had for 10 years), but the fact that it offers two elevated cymbal pads (which are way flimsier, but have an awesome bounce themselves) makes it so much closer to realistic and erases the Rock Band ambiguity of whether they're intending you to hit a particular pad as a tom tom or a cymbal. Playing the sixteenth notes on the hi-hat on the upper difficulties of "Everlong" (GH has it too), is now a lot less impossible. I can actually play the song on real drums (or at least I could ten years ago in my prime), but it's one thing to do it and knowing what you're doing than having to consciously think and match up what scrolling colors on a TV screen tell you.) Anyway, plenty of awesome songs I got to play before it got too late for the neighbors and I had to switch to guitar for an hour. Nirvana "About a Girl" Lenny Kravitz "Are You Gonna Go My Way" Muse "Assassin" (the repeated "breakdown" section is a motherf***er to play, but otherwise it's fine.) Michael Jackson "Beat It" (guitar) 311 "Beautiful Disaster" (Though in 10 years, I've never sat down to 100% nail the drums during the riff part after all the choruses.) blink-182 "Dammit" Foo Fighters "Everlong" Survivor "Eye of the Tiger" (guitar) Modest Mouse "Float On" (guitar, played on Rock Band drums before) Korn "Freak on a Leash" (drums, guitar) Fleetwood Mac "Go Your Own Way" 30 Seconds to Mars "The Kill" (played it on Rock Band drums before, but it was so much more fun this time.) The Mars Volta "L'Via L'Viaquez" (guitar) Silversun Pickups "Lazy Eye" (guitar, fun to play, have played it on Rock Band drums before) Paramore "Misery Business" (so much fun to play) Interpol "Obstacle 1" (guitar) R.E.M. "The One I Love" (guitar) Tool "Parabola," "Schism," and "Vicarious" (Totally want to play them a lot more, though.) The Living End "Prisoner of Society" (This and "Misery Business" were probably the most fun to play on drums.) Rise Against "Re-Education" Billy Idol "Rebel Yell" (guitar) Lostprophets "Rooftops" Bullet for My Valentine "Scream Aim Fire" (This was also a blast to play) Coldplay "Shiver" NOFX "Soul Doubt" No Doubt "Spiderwebs" Didn't get to try and would love to: System of a Down "B.Y.O.B." Michael Jackson "Beat It" 311 "Beautiful Disaster" (higher difficulty) Ozzy Osbourne "Crazy Train" (guitar) blink-182 "Dammit" (higher difficulty) Korn "Freak on a Leash" (higher drum difficulty) Filter "Hey Man, Nice Shot" Van Halen "Hot for Teacher" (just to see how bad it kicks my ass. However, there's no double bass pedal, so that should simplify it.) The Eagles "Hotel California" 30 Seconds to Mars "The Kill" (higher difficulty) The Mars Volta "L'Via L'Viaquez" (drums) Bon Jovi "Livin' on a Prayer" The Doors "Love Me Two Times" The Cult "Love Removal Machine" Stone Roses "Love Spreads" Jimmy Eat World "The Middle" (I think I've tried this once on Rock Band drums, though...) Jane's Addiction "Mountain Song" Ozzy Osbourne "Mr. Crowley" Lacuna Coil "Our Truth" (I think I've tried this once on Rock Band drums, though...) Beastie Boys "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" (guitar) Interpol "Obstacle 1" (totally wanted time to play this on drums, for that bridge section alone.) At the Drive-In "One Armed Scissor" Sublime "Santeria" Oasis "Some Might Say" Black Label Society "Stillborn" Ted Nugent "Stranglehold" Metallica "Trapped Under Ice" Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Weapon of Choice" Linkin Park "What I've Done"

Guitar Hero World Tour is also coming though, which will include apparently even better drums than Rock Band. Holy f***, it does! I haven't played GH:WT, but I was reading reviews saying that 1) the cymbals are not very responsive and 2) the note charts are kinda off (in the way that there aren't notes when there should be sometimes, or vice-versa, when there shouldn't be notes but notes appear). Is there any truth to any of those points?

The Wii Rock Band Store is now up! The selection of songs is a little limited, right now there are 50 songs with 20 of them being free songs from staff bands. I went ahead and grabbed a few songs today including "The Kill", "Afterlife", "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race", "All The Small Things", "Snow ((Hey Oh))", "Hysteria", "Move Along", "Wonderwall" and "Hammerhead."

Is there any truth to any of those points? Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. 1) It's hard to say because during one song I just happened to notice that it wasn't registering very many of my cymbal hits (which would explain my relatively low percentages, as compared to Rock Band, unless there's a vast difference in their grading scales), but then again I thought when you missed notes your "highway" would shake, which it didn't seem to do in those instances...So I don't know. 2) There could be, but I didn't notice anything like that while I was playing. In general, I tend to pay more attention to the notes on the screen, rather than constantly noticing whether or not the games register my hits.

I was talking with my mom the other day and she said she was about to buy me the Guitar Hero game, as like a lost X-mas gift, only she didn't know which console I had. Good thing she held off because I don't have any of 'em! Except the PC, of course, but I don't trust my 5 year old PC to be able to keep up with a game that's gotten such poor reviews for the PC for always lagging anyway.
It's so tempting to just go out and buy a f***ing PS3 or something just to be able to play the GH/RB series at my leisure.

I bought Rock Band 2 a couple weeks ago. I think "Lazy Eye" is the best song to play from either game, whether it's on drums, guitar, or vox.
I think the game seems easier this time. I was able to survive just about everything on Hard until I reached the Dream Theaters and Mastodons and Ace of Spades, which are difficult enough on Medium.
Some songs I just wasn't able to get the rhythms down right away, like "Feel The Pain" (It was the only song in the Alternative Top 100 of 1994 I had never heard until playing this game). The tempo changes got me good the first four times I tried.
Other songs like "Girl's Not Grey" were a bitch even though I knew the rhythms from playing on my steering wheel 10,000 times.
I'm surprised they didn't cut out the bridge to "Down With The Sickness" like most radio stations do. I'd like to try that one on vocals.
All the songs they have now available for download, it'd be harmful to my health if I had access to a console that supported downloadable content.

For the in-game songs, I think our favourites are "Carry On Wayward Son", "You Oughta Know", "Any Way You Want It" and "Lazy Eye" as well. Otherwise it's probably "Hysteria" for the crazy bass. I think the game seems easier this time. I was able to survive just about everything on Hard until I reached the Dream Theaters and Mastodons and Ace of Spades, which are difficult enough on Medium. My roommates and I were trying to do the full 84 playlist in tour mode on Hard (Medium on drums) and we couldn't get past "Visions" even though we usually play one level higher, and there were only 2 more songs to go. All the songs they have now available for download, it'd be harmful to my health if I had access to a console that supported downloadable content. Umm... all of them do...

I thought PS2 did not support them, hence the release of those "track packs" on physical media (my friend is who owns the PS2, not me, so I've never actually connected it to the network, and I don't think she has either.) That 84-song marathon is what I forgot to mention. I can't wait 'til I find the time to knock that out. I remembered the first tour challenge that only had a three song setlist, which I played on hard drums...and these are among the easier songs. I finished it and I was like "Now I know why some bands only play like 6 song setlists at real concerts".

My bad, I didn't realize RB2 came out on PS2, but yeah, you'd be right. I thought you were referring to the Wii version or something. Track Packs are released on all platforms though.
