There's a nineties pop/rock song this song rips off mercilessly. For the love of God, why can't I put a finger on it.
I guess I should clarify that among the song's three completely asynergic parts of verse, chorus, and bridge, I'm talking about the riffs of the verses, primarily the introductory ones.
Help, anyone?

You don't need to go back to the 90s. It rips off Lifehouse's "Whatever It Takes".
EDIT: I just re-read your post, you're asking about the verses. I don't know, and quite honestly, I don't care about this song enough to go back and listen to it.

I doubt this is what you're thinking of, but this top New & Active smash from 2002 is what the opening riffs (and a lot of the song, really) have reminded me of for a long time:

My description wasn't quite accurate--wasn't 90's, wasn't exactly pop/rock (might have made a splash at Hot AC equivalent to a dime falling into a fountain). But I figured it out and the song I was thinking of was "Rexall" by Dave Navarro.

The interesting thing about this band is, I can't remember the last time a band showed this much promise and went this downhill this fast.

Eh, the only song of theirs I've ever liked was "All The Same", and I'd still only give it a B (a reluctant one at that). Everybody makes a fluke from time to time; just so happens that theirs came as their breakthrough hit. All the others either bore me or just plain suck.

"What Are You Looking For" is truly underrated.
