Okay, so they're not really *that* old or anything, but I'll make a topic because I've gotten into them a lot more after getting The Singles 1992-2003. Although I was faimiliar with all 15 songs already, I feel like a lot of the group's highlights are the singles. And "Hey Baby" has even risen up to a C for me!!! I think I was horrified at first of No Doubt's Rock Steady sound, but now, I'd say that's my favorite of their studio albums (something I'm even shocked I'm saying now). That one had a lot of album cuts I enjoyed, like "Making Out," "Don't Let Me Down," and "Platinum Blonde Life." It was a great album, and after the last two albums, showed that the group could have some fun, too. I like the others, even though I may not necessarily love them.
I enjoy the self-titled debut album a little bit as well. I like Tragic Kingdom, but when I think about it, it's kind of shocking that it sold so much. It isn't the most commercially accessible thing out there, but then again, Alanis's breakthrough sold 16 million in the U.S. and she seems like a bit of an acquired taste as well. I like the album, but I don't love it. I do like some of the simple messages though, like on "Different People." "Sixteen" is probably my favorite of the non-singles from the album, and that's like my 3rd or so favorite on that album. I've known the album for years, but only recently got back around it when I saw it for $1 used.
Return of Saturn was pretty good, but the four singles seem to be the ones I like the most from that one, too, even though a few album cuts are really good and there's nothing really bad on there.
However, "Don't Speak" is one of the most overplayed songs ever, and I guess that's why it's merely a B song for me. I can see why some people viewed them as a novelty with "Just a Girl."
The singles, in order of my preference:
1. It's My Life
2. Ex-Girlfriend
3. New
4. Simple Kind of Life
5. Hella Good
6. Bathwater
7. Spiderwebs
8. Underneath It All
9. Excuse Me Mr.
10. Sunday Morning
11. Just a Girl
12. Don't Speak
13. Running (Good, but not single material.)
14. Trapped in a Box
15. Hey Baby
