Unlikely pop hit with a cover of one of the greatest 80s songs. My cousin says that they totally slaughtered New Order's version, but this actually got me into New Order so it couldn't be that bad. It lasted longer than most songs that peak around #28 and last I checked this was still a fairly strong recurrent on Hits 106. When they were guests on Open House Party one night, John Garabedian began the show by announcing "we're having an orgy!"

Catchy, but I didn't like it back in the day. I haven't heard it in a long time, but I bet I would probably like it more now.

My favorite song of all-time.
I was first introduced to New Order in 1993, when "Regret" was a big hit on the pop charts.
Though I had not heard it, I was told Frenté!'s "Bizarre Love Triangle" the next year was a New Order cover.
By 1995, I had gotten to hear both "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "True Faith" courtesy of KPNT in St. Louis. Those were the only New Order songs I had heard until 1998.
When I became aware of "Blue Monday" being a song on Orgy's Candyass record, I didn't need to be told it was a New Order cover. I was already aware of that. I didn't actually hear any more New Order songs, though, until I broke down and bought Substance in 2000, largely just so I could finally hear the original "Blue Monday." While I like it very much, I was underwhelmed in comparison, so, odd as it sounds, Orgy's version is my favorite song of all-time.

I really liked this song. One of my favorites of that year.

This is my favorite remake of all-time.
Although I like both of the New Order songs that were remade, my favorite New Order song will always be "Regret."

It's pretty good, but I still don't know how it made the pop chart. There's probably no way it would today.

This song totally rocks! Not sure if I like this or the original from New Order better, but they're neck and neck.

There were two versions of this song--the original (I guess) that everyone still plays now, and a scaled down pop version that Rick Dees/AT40 played. Does anyone have that other version?
Rick Dees did the same with "Stupid Girl" by Garbage when that was on the chart too, now that I think of it. Maybe even "Special" too. And "Girls & Boys" by Blur, definitely. I don't think those were even scaled down; they were just different mixes that I never heard anywhere else. And if anyone has any of those ones too...

The "Blue Monday" that was played on the Top 40 was the "Single Mix" that appeared on the CD single. You have it in your folder now, as well as my particular favorite, the "Club 69 Dub," which I actually charted separately in 1999. The version of "Stupid Girl" you're referring to is "Tee's Radio Mix," which was on the commercial CD single. I'll get that from home on Christmas. I'm unaware of the versions of "Girls and Boys" and "Special" you mentioned.
