Nick's Notes: Let's see. I was obsessed with "Famous Last Words" last week and am reasonably sure that'll be my next #1. I mean, though I haven't heard it there yet, it's already storming radio. How could it not be next? "My Love" isn't strong enough to get a #1, nor is "Black Parade" at this point.
After the new year, I'll get to go back and listen to (+44) some more, so hopefully the title track can peak well within the Top 5. I wouldn't necessarily rule out "The Pot" from returning to the Top 5 just yet. The Deftones came to town last weekend and I pumped myself up beforehand by spinning their 3rd-5th CDs. (I didn't have time to go back and add in the first two.) "Snow" I would expect Top 5 from, but not a #1.
I spun Muse a little bit recently, causing the track to reset its peak just outside the Top 10. (Meanwhile, I'm still waiting to hear "Starlight" for the 2nd? 3rd? time on radio, while "Knights of Cydonia" is becoming tiresome, despite my best efforts, as is "The Kill.")
I'm not sure how long Tenacious D can possibly last. I just definitively listened to Clipse and Lupe's albums. Unfortunately for Gwen, doing the same for hers didn't result in anything yet except for "Wind It Up" winding up in the 60s. "Say It Right" is treading water. "Chasing Cars" is probably done. That seemed to be short-lived. That's it for this week. One more weekly chart and then it's 2007 time. Goodnight, all.

There's really been a slowdown at the top, with songs 1-5 remaining the same for the past 3 weeks now. "The Only One" is certainly a worthy #1, but I'm not sure if it's worthy of 8 weeks, which is around what it may wind up with. Whatever replaces it might wind up doing so by default, as I can't find another #1 caliber song right now (besides the ones that have already been there) in the whole top 50 (including "Plan B", which I've already played the crap out of). "Polaris" surprisingly holds on and may even sneak into the top 10 as Ludacris falls. "Can't Catch Tomorrow" and "Lying Is the Most Fun..." keep trucking along. "Ladies and Gentlemen" is a pretty weak #50, but I couldn't justify "What Goes Around..." leapfrogging it already because, with only rare exceptions, I didn't debut songs straight into the top 50 when I had a top 100. Maybe that'll change in a few months if I'm paying attention to fewer songs overall, but not in week 2 of the slimmer chart. "A Special Christmas Box" (aka... well, I won't spoil the real title if you haven't watched it) is a hilarious SNL skit that comes nearly a year to the day after "Lazy Sunday". I don't watch the show much anymore, but everyone has been saying it's the best sketch since "Lazy Sunday" (and YouTubers seem to agree). I never gave "Here (In Your Arms)" a fair shake after being disappointed by "Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn", but I listened to it on a friend's MySpace page this week and liked it. "If Everyone Cared" is a nice improvement over "Far Away" in the Nickelback-chick-song department. P.S. The title at the top of my .PNG should say "December 22, 2006". The chart still comes out on Fridays.

Falling Off: -- 31 Deftones - Hole In the Earth -- 32 Gnarls Barkley - Gone Daddy Gone -- 33 Stone Sour - Through Glass -- 39 30 Seconds to Mars - The KillSo some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted a chart in quite a while. Well, while it never officially died, it was on life support for much of the year (hence the absence of weeks and peak right now), but I'm gonna revive it, try to keep it up for all of 2007, and hopefully log all the incomplete 2006 charts in time to make a year-end chart. (And I might tinker with the scoring next year, too, but we'll see.) Meanwhile, I'm gonna attempt to comment on all forty songs here. AFI continues to pound ahead, but I feel like there hasn't been a truly dominant #1 for at least two months. They'll probably hold on for the rest of the year, though. I thought Incubus would be #1 right now, but they and MCR and solid right now. Blue October is buffering this week until :30, "Bones" and Panic! begin to do battle in the new year. "Bones" might be the favorite since it feels like it gets better with every listen. Kill Hannah will have probably logged a solid half-year on the chart next week; truly one of the more surprising events this year. Placebo also had one (or should I say two) of the biggest surprises this year; "Infrared" possibly scraped the top ten over the summer. Boo "Window in the Skies" cutting the rug from under "The Saints are Coming," but the video play allowed it to last long enough. Thank goodness TBS managed to hit the top ten (twice) this time around. I could probably have never justified to myself owning all three albums otherwise. The Fray were an absolute powerhouse this year; HTSAL might log enough weeks in '07 to make that year's chart. "Nothing Left to Lose" was just one of those songs that grew on me over a few months, and it's getting its due now. "Land of Confusion" got a late boost due to the video suddenly showing up on MTV2. "Snow" might just peak high on name cred; I haven't truly felt it yet. Even if CMWYS wasn't Evanescence at the top of their game, that's four-for-four (not counting "Everybody's Fool") in the top 2 for them (with "Broken" reaching #3). Say Anything's fall might be softened for a month by me putting the song on my iPod. FOB should easily get a second top 10. AAA had better success with the first two singles, but they had a very solid debut year, to say the least. Crossfade just knows how to make good hard rock singles. KT should be doing better, but possibly won't. "Level" was better than the consensus would have one believe. Nelly could get her third official top 10 with "Say It Right." "Le Disko" had a breakthrough for me when I envisioned a perverted, Cronenberg-esque video, but then backfired when I compared it to the actual video. "Beg" was criminally overlooked when it was out. It was easily the best of their three singles. +44 did alright, but, while I haven't heard the entire album, I feel like they might have done better if they just called themselves "Blink-182." I'm glad the D managed to get their hit on my chart, after my unforgivable passing on "Tribute." Sparta is exploding, and Saosin might too if they can just gain some traction. "Lazy Eye" might be overstated right now, but better than me passing on it completely. Brand New's gonna do well in '07. f***in' Muse. Every time they put out a song, I say to myself "I can't see myself liking this." Yet I don't turn the station enough when it comes on, and eventually I don't bother trying, and as a result, I come around and love the song. It's happened every time since "Time Is Running Out", and I can't explain it. It's like that one team in the NFL each season who you don't think can win when you look at the matchup, yet somehow always manages to pull it out. "When You Were Young" could be their first song not to break 26 weeks, despite being their fourth #1. Flyleaf keeps plugging along, doing just enough to avoid the axe. Hopefully, "You're All I Have" will gain some ground once "Chasing Cars" dies down, if that ever happens. Three Days Graces also just knows how to make good hard rock songs. The GGD haven't really put out a bad song from this album, but this is the first I've liked enough to chart. MCR should get their fifth straight top ten, assuming I didn't chart an album cut in early '06. And yes, I can't believe that happened either. If you're still reading, thanks.
