Man... we've gotta get to work on the charts here. My chart is limping to the finish line this year, having fallen behind by 9 days -- and for the first time, there's real question whether it will continue into 2007 -- but it's not just me that isn't posting their charts anymore. "The New Transmission" rocketed to #1 after the show in Baton Rouge last week, and holds there fairly easily this week. Basically there isn't anything to knock it off. "4 AM Forever" spent 5 weeks at #5 before starting to slip. "The Pick of Destiny" probably doesn't have much longer to rise (and "White and Nerdy" has already begun its descent). "Anna Molly" looks like a top 5 hit, but the next #1 will probably be from Evanescence. Whether it's "Lithium" or "The Only One" (at #29; see just below) remains to be seen. Four straight from Mute Math in the 31-34 range as the concert in Birmingham approaches this Thursday. "Plan B" is a song I never paid attention to during the time the LP was only available at their shows, but it's coming on strong now. "Polaris" from Jimmy Eat World is just a really great fall/winter-y type song, so despite it being a year and a half old, it'll probably hang on for a while yet. "Victim" finally broke through last week to become Eighteen Visions' second top-50 hit after they opened for Lostprophets. Friday the 20th was the Everclear concert on the USA campus, but it was opening act Big City Rock that impressed me the most. I thought enough of "Human" to buy it on iTunes instead of searching around for it on the torrents or LimeWire. Their single is "All of the Above", which came in at #83 (in their live performance, it featured fellow opening Jonny Lives! and Art Alexakis). Jay-Z comes back strongly with "Show Me What You Got", and I guess I'll re-chart "Audrey..." since it seems to be doing decently on the Christian Rock chart. "Oh! Gravity" sounds weaker than Switchfoot's singles off their last album. Maybe they should have waited a bit longer to come back. None of the debuts here are likely to do much. "Lacrymosa" is the 11th The Open Door song in the top 100 this week; only "Your Star" and "Good Enough" haven't made it. I stumbled across Will Hoge a couple of weeks ago while on MySpace. He has some good songs, but I didn't really listen to them that much after a couple of days. "Gallery" falls just short of 30 weeks; I now have some internal vindication of my early charting of the song after its rise to #6 on the CHR/Pop chart. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" really racked up a great chart run.

My chart is limping to the finish line this year, having fallen behind by 9 days -- and for the first time, there's real question whether it will continue into 2007 -- but it's not just me that isn't posting their charts anymore. I should have every chart up until this week posted momentarily. But yeah, there's a chance that 2006 may be it for my chart as well. The motivation just isn't as strong as it once was and quite honestly, it's been that way for months now. I hate to say it, but my interest in music charts in general has been slowly waning since sometime last year, and the merge back in August certainly didn't help things. That being said, I can't see myself losing interest in tracking radio music charts entirely anytime in the foreseeable future. I'm just no longer at the point where I could tell you where any song from the last 5 years peaked on both CHR/Pop and Alternative, from memory. But anyway, I may trim my chart (back) down to 40 positions if nothing else. I'm just worried that if I discontinue it entirely, I'll find myself regretting it a month or two later.

I'm sorry to say for those who normally read mine, but I don't know know about my future of posting personal charts, or I'll unfreeze mine soon, just because I feel like in the past six months it's been totally irrelevant for me (altho I managed to do one chart after that). I'll definitely be doing a year-end list, that more or less reflects my favorite songs I've heard of the year.
That being said, there's probably a few songs I wouldn't mind grading on a report card topic. Also, since I've been back home for the past few months, I haven't really listened to the radio much, mostly because I don't care for radio in San Antonio.
I may revive the charts, but I may think of reducing it to about 30 songs.

My deal is I moved to St. Louis and started working two jobs: at a concert venue and at a record store (I get hours more regularly at a cousin store, up the street from the venue, actually.)
Between that and not having regular access to the internet until Wednesday, having to fit in stints at least once a week at either my brother's place or at the local library, it's been a struggle for me to keep up with music news, charts, and singles, let alone my personal charts. I think I fell 5 days behind when I made one chart, and it's been a struggle to get back on track to Wednesdays ever since. I probably ought to make this past week's chart ASAP, but I'm exhausted now and work all day tomorrow, so I can't even make any real headway this week, still. If I'm too tired to make it after I get home tomorrow night, which will be late, then I won't get to make it until Monday evening, most likely. Poo.
I, on the other hand, am still very much interested in making weekly charts and charting the Alternative and Pop formats, as well as acknowledging all relevant singles in most relevant genres.
