Nick's Notes:
Obviously I saw AFI this past week, so 11 of their 12 tracks rebound, including "Miss Murder" back to #1. "The Kill" made a strong bid for #2 this week, but came up short. I haven't seen/heard "Seize the Day" on TV/radio yet, just when I sought out the video myself a couple weeks back. Seeing "Killing Loneliness" on Fuse the other day pushes it into the Top 10.
Hearing "The Adventure" again helps it rebound.
Unfortunately, I haven't listened to the new Lostprophets album lately, so their album cuts slip to make room. I'm burned out on 18V after last week, so I didn't bother listening to their record. Their album cuts fall, too.
Muse is about to have at least a minor Top 40 hit on their hands. I saw Rancid last Friday and Saturday. I guess Saturday was just a travel day for AFI, who played on Sunday, because Davey joined Rancid the second night and was the lead vocalist on the last encore song, "Radio." To quote American Beauty, I "spray[ed my] shorts." The M. Shadows/Brandon Schieppati duet was just two weeks ago, The Used/MCR duet was last year, before the studio version was released and took over, and 3 summers ago, the live version of Rancid's as-of-then-unreleased "Red Hot Moon" from the St. Louis Warped Tour date hit my contender list for a week or two.
It looks like Justin is about to have his first solo Top 40 hit on my chart. ("Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body" totally got hosed back then.) I like the noise Lupe is making. I know this is asking a lot, but I hope his whole album is good like that.
Ah, finally the Paris factor: You've read (or can read) my comments in our Pop forum (and some more at Pulse), but I'll recreate them again. Her music (the idea of it, even!) had everything going against it, but dammit if Paris Hilton doesn't have one of the better pure Pop songs this year; her voice is way better than I expected and it's probably the breezy pop jam of the summer; this year's "Cool" by Gwen Stefani, only the poor man's version…I'll take what I can get though. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt and for reading this week.
