Nick's Notes: "Beast in the Harlot" moves ever closer to taking back the throne, this time as a single. I actually had to listen to both back to back this week to see which would be #1, something I'd never had to do in all other 32 weeks "Bat Country" has been at the top.
Atreyu blast into the Top 10 this week. If this won't be their third #1, then they'll be stuck forever at #2, like "Wings of a Butterfly" was for 15 non-consecutive weeks. "Move Along" finally bursts into the Top 10 as well, finally helping chip away at "Not Now," "The Ghost of You," and "Stricken." In fact I'm surprised those two A7X epics were able to hold onto their spots at the bottom of the Top 10, frankly.
"Sorry" still has a strong bullet, but its days may be numbered since the video fell out of TRL this week (F**king pigs. They retired "Hung Up," yet there's no sustained loyalty.) "Return to Sender" and "Every Day..." backward bullet. "Talk" regains its bullet. I hate how tight 20-30 has become. They all deserve to be in the Top 20. "Shameful" is the other new Atreyu song on my free sampler CD I got last week, but it wasn't quite strong enough by Wednesday to debut, so it debuts huge this week.
I hate to see "Fall Into Sleep" falter, because it deserves almost as much as "Forget to Remember" got on my chart, which was Top 20 with longevity. "Tragedy of Empty Streets" backward bullets.
"Sugar, We're Goin Down" "achieves" the rare feat of falling out of the Top 40 and below my cutoff of 60 completely. "Dance, Dance" gets the heave-ho, too, but the new single comes in at the bottom. I hate to cut out "Just Stop," but it couldn't be helped. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" gets a crucial boost this week from seeing the video twice on MTV this week. Imagine that. I heard "Heart in a Cage" regularly this past week, finally causing it to leap aboard. I actually saw the full "Precious" video on VH1 the other night, so coupled with the recent spin I gave it on a mix CD I made, it debuts in a significant way. Not sure how much staying power it will have. (Or the Strokes, for that matter, because nationally it seems to be on its way out. I should note that that didn't hurt KNSX airplay for "Not Now," in any way, however.)
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. "Be Without You" loses steam yet again, as does "Dare." "The Darkest Nights" probably won't make it to next week. Anyway, kudos for making it this far. Thanks for reading.

Mute Math's third week at #1. Nickelback might actually have a shot at the top; there are no obvious heirs to the throne. "Happy Is a Yuppie Word" sounds the most like a #1 hit, but I'm not totally convinced yet that it'll make it there.
Natasha keeps making leaps and bounds up the chart. Top 10 looks like a sure bet, but not top 5. The same goes for She Wants Revenge and maybe Daniel Powter, but probably not for KT Tunstall (i.e., I think she'll miss the top 5 and top 10).
"Temperature" got helped out by a lot of songs dropping below it. Look for a top 20 showing, but not much more. "Red Sky" -- and probably Thrice's radio career -- are done on the charts, but there's still life left here. Kelly Clarkson might have peaked just short of the top 40.
Top 50 Entries: "Typical" is the clear standout of the other songs I've heard (about 4-5) from Mute Math's new album (and Ethan apparently agrees with me ). Great shot at a top 10 for this one. "Politicians" would be a great third single for Switchfoot, but I doubt they'll even get one now with "WAOT" flopping. :-\ Shinedown make it 6-for-6 on my top 50 (but will still only have one top 10). LL Cool J (and, uh, an uncredited artist) round out the debuts.
But it's the re-entry that's the biggest story. Staind have improbably made it back into the top 50. Chart run for "Right Here" (debut 5/20/05):
84-70-62-55-51-44-41-38-40-41-46-57-65-75-75-86-80 77-71-68-67-73-76-98-99-(off for 14 weeks)-92-75-65-62-56-46
Top 100 Debuts: An interesting lot here, too. I can't decide which artist's debut is more unlikely: Buckcherry or Mario Vazquez.
I heard "Crazy Bitch" on an Active Rock station, and I immediately deemed it my 2nd-favorite Buckcherry song behind "Lit Up". That's not saying that much since I hated everything else I heard from them, but this might actually have a shot at my top 50.
I heard "Gallery" last night on WYOK. It looks like they're one of only two Pop stations playing it, but I had an immediate positive reaction. I heard it again this morning on the same station, so it looks like they're giving it good spins out of the box. Another immediate observation I made was that this sounds a bit like Toni Braxton's "Breathe Again", of all songs. I have to give Buckcherry the prize for most unlikely debut of the week, though. Two years in a row an artist first-named Mario has come out of nowhere to grab a #2 hit on my chart (Mario Winans in 2004 and Mario in 2005). Can Mario Vazquez -- of all people! -- make it an unthinkable trifecta? Probably not, but I didn't see either of the other two coming either.
And last but not least: "Da Lep Ra Con" is one manifestation of a budding Internet phenomenon originating from my home city of Mobile. Go here to hear the song, but first click on the YouTube video on the "artist" profile to see the hilarious news story that started the "leprechaun craze".

That's not saying that much since I hated everything else I heard from them, but this might actually have a shot at my top 50. I don't understand how this is possible when "Crazy Bitch" is the dumbest crassest single they've ever put out (disregarding "Porno Star," which I'm not sure anyone really heard). So you mean to tell me you hated "For the Movies"? If so, wow.
