Mute Math will likely be the next #1, and for more than a week or two at that. There's nothing really on its tail right now. This week was the last gasp for Three 6 Mafia; it'll start falling next week.
Actually, the only real contenders for #1 after Mute Math are not P!ATD or Nickelback, but a pair of rhythmic hits: Mary J. Blige and Eminem at #10 and #11. I'm still trying to figure out why I like "Be Without You" so much, but it's got a shot at matching Mario's "Let Me Love You" (the biggest rhythmic hit of '05) with a #2 peak.
Switchfoot should soon break through the clutter and get into the top 10. I'm not so sure about C&C - I'm just not listening to it enough.
A few of the Anberlin tracks continue to rise, but "Paperthin Hymn" has probably peaked in its second chart run. Pretty impressive to get back to the top 20 though, and it'll smash the record for most weeks in the top 50 for a non-#1 hit.
Switchfoot's "Happy Is a Yuppie Word" might be the favorite song I've heard from Nothing Is Sound. Natasha Bedingfield is getting herself a pretty-decent sized hit, after initially getting off to a very slow start. KT Tunstall is racing toward the top 20, but I don't think it's got the juice for a top 10 showing.
Top 50 debuts are an odd bunch: Daniel Powter, who fits somewhere in between Ryan Cabrera and Howie Day (and no, I'm not going to compare him to James Blunt); another Anberlin track, the 9th from the album NTFP to place in the top 50; She Wants Revenge, who many have compared to Interpol but look headed for a bigger Alternative hit than that band has ever had; and two reggaeton tracks, which probably close to doubles the lifetime top-50 chart history for that genre in one week.
Slow week below the top 50. Thousand Foot Krutch is the clear oddball debut here; I heard it once on AllAccess about 6-7 months ago and dismissed it right then, but hearing it on an Active Rock station here, I had a more favorable impression. A couple of Jimmy Eat World album tracks give Futures 6 chart hits, over half the album. I've never given this CD nearly the number of listens it deserves.
