It has sure been a while since we've seen one of these. I think it was krazymack who started the last one (and he was given credit as being the one who always started them, when it was like the only time he ever did. Lol.)
Pop:
1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: B+ (Man it was hard to hold down that grade, considering all the times I saw it on VH1.) 2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: C+ (Never minded the song. What I did mind was all these corporations creating commercials around adaptations of this song. 6 years later, there's a few companies still doing it! Wtf!) 3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: A (I was obsessed with this song back then, and they pulled off the 'classic sample' job way before everyone made it out of style to do so.) 4. K-Ci & JoJo - Crazy: B- (nowhere near as catchy as "All My Life" and didn't deserve to get this far.) 5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: C 6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: D+ (it's average, but they're penalized for never even trying a new formula.) 7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: B (aside from the fact that just about all her other songs are awful, I can't really hold anything else against her here.) 8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: B- (Somebody asked me why it's retarded to abbreviate 'christina' as 'X-Tina'. Because if 'X-Mas' is short for 'Christmas', then 'X-Tina' would be short for 'Christtina'. The sheep can't even spell the name of the artist they're sheeping properly.) 9. Sugar Ray - Someday: B+ 10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B 11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: B+ 12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: C+ 13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: B 14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): C- (bland and impossibly corn-ball, but not what I'd consider 'bad'.) 15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: D- (wow, talk about obnoxious.) 16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: B 17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: C 18. Train - Meet Virginia: B 19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: B- 20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: B+ 21. Will Smith - Will 2. K.: D (don't try to capitalize on popular mass panic attacks, please. This song (and "Freakin' It", to a greater extent), effectively resulted in a 5 year suspension from popular music.) 22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: D+ (and I'd give an F to the pop remix.) 23. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker: C- (and this was from a time when there was actually a glimmer of hope that she'd recover and make some listenable music. 1 listenable song in six years.) 24. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever: F. (She was just as bad then as she is now. The only difference is that she was a pretentious 'good girl', and now she's a pretentious 'bad girl'.) 25. Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had: B+ 26. Mandy Moore - Candy: C+ (this was about a grade lower before I came to the realization that she was far more of an enchanting character than any of her counterparts.) 27. Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos: B 28. Robbie Williams - Angels: B 29. Melissa Etheridge - Angels Would Fall: C 30. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss: A- 31. Blink-182 - What's My Age Again?: A- 32. Whitney Houston - Your Love Is My Love: C+ for the original, D+ for the remix (the remix was totally effortless and worthless.) 33. Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is: B+ (this was the most I liked a Celine single since "Misled" in 1994.) 34. L. F. O. - Girls On TV: D (I couldn't help but to have "Summer Girls", one of the worst songs ever, fresh on my mind while first hearing this. Although I don't really think I'd have rated this song very highly on its own, either.) 35. Counting Crows - Hanginaround: B 36. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank: A- 37. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: D (seriously, this is the only Ricky Martin single I ever had any problems with, besides "I Don't Care", if that counts.) 38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: C- (because I was, at the very least, interested in hearing it in 1999. I don't think I've heard the song without angrily turning it off at anytime over the past 4 years.) 39. Blacque (featuring 'nsync) - Bring It All To Me: C- (another meritless female vocal group trying to ride TLC's wave. Enough already.) 40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'nsync) - The Music Of Our Hearts: C
(anyone who happens to know 41-50: post it, please!)
Alternative:
1 Bush - The chemicals between us: B (Sick of it, though.) 2 Creed - Higher: B+ (Was sick of it for awhile, but Alternative doesn't really care much for Creed anymore.) 3 Live - The dolphin's cry: A 4 Foo Fighters - Learn to fly: A- 5 311 - Come original: A- 6 Kid Rock - Cowboy 7 Cornell, Chris - Can't change me: A- (considering that VH1's playlist only consisted of about 8 current songs at any given time in 1999, it's impressive of them to have played this song as much as they did.) 8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar tissue: B+ (and when "Around The World" followed this up: see Chris Cornell.) 9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: B (I had no idea this was from so late in the 90's.) 10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: A- (part of it's for being so significantly of higher quality than everything else they've ever released. I'm sick of this, because thanks to that, it's the only song of theirs that's ever played anymore.) 11 Blink-182 - What's my age again? 12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the world: A (oh...here it is. One of the coolest 'songs to drive to' ever made.) 13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do right: B- (I don't really remember this much besides pop playing it a little, and me not particularly caring.) 14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: B+ 15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla radio: C+ (I think VH1 even played this a little bit as well, which is cool. I never cared much for Rage though, aside from "Bulls On Parade".) 16 Filter - Take a picture: B+ 17 Our Lady Peace - One man army: B 18 Blink-182 - All the small things: C- (this song annoyed me to no end back then, and even though I have more respect for the band now, I'm sick of this song now.) 19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: C 20 Days of the New - Enemy: C+ 21 Santana f/Everlast - Put your lights on: B+ 22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: A- 23 Lit - Zip-lock: n/a 24 Counting Crows - Hanginaround 25 Staind - Mudshovel: A- 26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: n/a (I can remember thinking it sucked, but I haven't heard it since my tastes changed.) 27 Beck - Sexxlaws: B 28 Offspring - She's got issues: n/a (I'm sure I've heard it, but the only Offspring I ever really hear anymore include the two Smash singles, plus "The Kids Aren't Alright".) 29 Sevendust - Denial: B+ 30 Smash Mouth - Then the morning comes 31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: n/a 32 Tonic - You wanted more: A- (considering that "Open Up Your Eyes" was able to cross over, there's really no excuse for this not to have even hit the pop chart.) 33 Sugar Ray - Someday 34 Buckcherry - For the movies: B+ 35 Godsmack - Keep away: C+ 36 Apple, Fiona - Fast as you can: C+ (I'd have docked it even more for blandness if this wasn't the song/album where she broke the chains between her and her record company's demands.) 37 Beastie Boys - Alive:B 38 Fuel - Sunburn: B 39 Filter - Welcome to the fold: B 40 Oleander - I walk alone: n/a 41 Muse - Muscle museum: A 42 Long Beach Dub Allstars - Trailer ras: n/a (I had no idea they had songs before "Saw Red" and "Sunny Hours", and speaking of the latter, after what I know now, I can't believe that they used to be doing songs with The Black-Eyed Peas.) 43 Santana f/Thomas, Rob - Smooth 44 Goo Goo Dolls - Black balloon: B+ 45 Love, G. & Special Sauce - Rodeo clowns: n/a 46 Save Ferris - Mistaken: n/a 47 Unwritten Law - Cailin: n/a 48 Guster - Barrel of a gun (4,3,2,1): n/a (I think I heard this a few times on a decent Hot AC station, but don't remember it.) 49 Cake - Let me go: n/a 50 Kottonmouth Kings - Bump: n/a

I miss these Pop:1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: B+ 2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: B+ (Well, I heard the album and that's not necessarily how it was done throughout. "1+1=2" is the same song as "Mambo" with diff. lyrics, and appeared on a phone commercial like a year later)3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: B+ (Yeah, I love that "More, More, "More" sample.)4. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: B+ (original); B- (Stop! remix) 5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: B6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: C+7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: B+ (by far her greatest non-guest song.)8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: A-9. Sugar Ray - Someday: B-10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B- (I own the single.)11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: B+12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: F (It seems like it's only the covers from them that I hated.)13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: B-14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): C+15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: D+ (I thought it was too forgettable to be considered obnoxious. For the same reason, I'm giving it 2/3 a grade higher.)16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: B (Fantastically cheesy.)17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: B18. Train - Meet Virginia: B-19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: C20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: B+21. Will Smith - Will 2. K.: F (I wouldn't have minded half as much had he not implemented himself so much in the song.)22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: B+23. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker: B-24. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever: F. (I never could stand her music, either. For some reason, how she is now annoys me SO MUCH MORE.)25. Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had: B- 26. Mandy Moore - Candy: B+ (I own the single.)27. Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos: B+28. Robbie Williams - Angels: B+29. Melissa Etheridge - Angels Would Fall: C- (How could such an average artist have the longevity of at least a decade?)30. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss: C31. Blink-182 - What's My Age Again?: A-32. Whitney Houston - Your Love Is My Love: B+33. Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is: B- 34. L. F. O. - Girls On TV: D (It doesn't help that it follows up that song and this doesn't do any help of that.)35. Counting Crows - Hanginaround: B (Before they realized they'd prefer to sacrifice good songs to horrid ones that lost their credibility.)36. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank: A-37. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: D+38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: B- (I haven't heard it in awhile, but one of his better song in my eyes.)39. Blacque (featuring JC Chasez) - Bring It All To Me: C- 40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'nsync) - The Music Of Our Hearts: D(anyone who happens to know 41-50: post it, please!) Alternative:1 Bush - The chemicals between us: A-2 Creed - Higher: D3 Live - The dolphin's cry: A-4 Foo Fighters - Learn to fly: A-5 311 - Come original: A-7 Cornell, Chris - Can't change me: A (I was glad a couple years ago when my chemistry teacher was playing his solo album.)9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: A- (Darkest & heaviest from STP, rivaling anything from Core (!))10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: A- (Well, "Break Stuff" wasn't great but I thought it was funny at least. I actually liked LB until CSatHDFW.)12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the world: A (funny how everyone celebrated this album as a "return to form"... this reminds me of something Dave Navarro would've played.)13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do right: B- 14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: A+ (Should've been a little bit more successful, as it continued the streak of NIN singles with that grade.)15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla radio: B- ("BOP" is by far my favorite too, but I have always liked this perfectly fine. Even whenever Zach's vocals grated my nerves to no end.)16 Filter - Take a picture: B+17 Our Lady Peace - One man army: B18 Blink-182 - All the small things: B- (I haven't heard this in awhile. Seriously.)19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: B (Another funny song from LB)20 Days of the New - Enemy: B+21 Santana f/Everlast - Put your lights on: B22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: B23 Lit - Zip-lock: B (But around this time, Lit were like my favorite band)25 Staind - Mudshovel: A26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: B+27 Beck - Sexxlaws: B+28 Offspring - She's got issues: D+ (This song is dumb.)29 Sevendust - Denial: B+31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: A32 Tonic - You wanted more: B+ (I'm shocked it didn't cross over considering I heard it like it was a Top 20 pop hit.)34 Buckcherry - For the movies: D (Uh, wrong rock-based chart. But maybe the Darkenss and Jet would've been accepted at the format even without the current explosion of those bands.)35 Godsmack - Keep away: C+ (I didn't realize until halfway through the second album that they were formulaic, so I give this some credit, albeit not much.)36 Apple, Fiona - Fast as you can: B 37 Beastie Boys - Alive: B38 Fuel - Sunburn: d/r 39 Filter - Welcome to the fold: B-40 Oleander - I walk alone: B41 Muse - Muscle museum: A 42 Long Beach Dub Allstars - Trailer ras: d/r (They're from the ashes of Sublime.)44 Goo Goo Dolls - Black balloon: A-45 Love, G. & Special Sauce - Rodeo clowns: B+46 Save Ferris - Mistaken: B47 Unwritten Law - Cailin: d/r 48 Guster - Barrel of a gun (4,3,2,1): n/a (But might have heard it on local alternative station, but I didn't pay attention to most of those songs when I was 12.)49 Cake - Let me go: d/r 50 Kottonmouth Kings - Bump: B+ (I heard this from the same radio station that I was talking about just then. I really enjoy it still; it's just their (unintelligent) songs that bitch about how "America should legalize weed" that I hate.)

I don't know, it's just that before I knew about R and R or Mediabase, all I had was a website where somebody listed the songs of AT40 every week, and they gave the credit to 'nsync.
I knew that, I just thought it was "Saw Red" (in 2000) that was the first song of theirs to surface. I remember somebody on the R and R boards, when "Sunny Hours" made the chart, and on one of our report cards, they called it a shameless rip-off of "What I Got". I was the one that had to tell him they were ripping off their own song.

Ooh, nostalgia from the fall of my senior year in high school!
Pop:
1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: B 2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: B 3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: A- (Their bomb second single "Feelin' Alright," featured none other than Poison's C.C. DeVille on an awesomely out-of-place guitar solo!) 4. K-Ci & JoJo - Crazy: B+ (Whoa, wait a minute. Check your charts. This might've been Top 5 a year later, but no way was this song out way back in '99. They were on the album before that one, with no Top 10 hits at all. My guess for the correct #4 would be...) 4. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy (Stop! Remix): A- (And upon looking back at the previous song title, I would definitely say this is the correct #4.) 5. TLC - Unpretty: B- 6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: C 7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: B+ (I enjoyed this song way after the fact.) 8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: B+ (Well yeah, but "Tina" is an actual girl's name, while X-ina or, dare I say, "Xena" is just awkward. I think you're picking nits there.) 9. Sugar Ray - Someday: A- 10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B- 11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: A+ (The guitar solo in the coda is just amazingly beautiful.) 12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: B- 13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: B- 14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): C+ 15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: C- 16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: C 17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman: B- 18. Train - Meet Virginia: D (They've always just bored the crap out of me.) 19. Smash Mouth - All Star: B 20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: B 21. Will Smith - Will 2K: D (Way to piss all over "Rock the Casbah" with corny dreck, ass.) 22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: C+ (I was not aware there was a pop remix.) 23. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker: D+ 24. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever: C 25. Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had: B+ 26. Mandy Moore - Candy: C+ (I thought this was a new Robyn song when it first came out. Talk about song Xeroxing.) 27. Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos: B- 28. Robbie Williams - Angels: B- 29. Melissa Etheridge - Angels Would Fall: C 30. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss: B+ 31. Blink-182 - What's My Age Again?: A 32. Whitney Houston - Your Love Is My Love: C- 33. Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is: B- 34. LFO - Girls On TV: D- 35. Counting Crows - Hanginaround: C+ (I heard that Adam loved the piano loop in "Steal My Sunshine" and was inspired to make one of his own.) 36. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank: B 37. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: C- 38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: D+ (How in the hell did 10 million people get duped into buying into his horses***?!) 39. Blaque (featuring JC Chasez) - Bring It All To Me: B- (Apparently they totally believe JC Chasez has "thug appeal".) 40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'N Sync) - Music in Your Heart: D+
Alternative:
1 Bush - The Chemicals Between Us: B+ (All of Bush's songs have this unidentifiable awkwardness about them, though.) 2 Creed - Higher: C+ 3 Live - The Dolphin's Cry: A- 4 Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly: A- 5 311 - Come Original: A 7 Chris Cornell - Can't Change Me: A- 9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: A- 10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: A 12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the World: A 13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do Right: B- 14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in This Together: A+ 15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla Radio: B+ 16 Filter - Take a picture: A- 17 Our Lady Peace - One Man Army: B 18 Blink-182 - All the Small Things: A 19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: A- 20 Days of the New - Enemy: C+ 21 Santana f/Everlast - Put Your Lights On: B- 22 Stroke9 - Little Black Backpack: B 23 Lit - Zip-lock: B 25 Staind - Mudshovel: A 26 Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide: B+ 27 Beck - Sexx Laws: B- 28 Offspring - She's Got Issues: B (Wow, I had totally forgotten about this single. It's probably the Offspring single I'm familiar with the least.) 29 Sevendust - Denial: B+ 31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: C 32 Tonic - You Wanted More: C+ 34 Buckcherry - For the Movies: A- 35 Godsmack - Keep Away: B 36 Fiona Apple - Fast as You Can: B- 37 Beastie Boys - Alive:B 38 Fuel - Sunburn: C+ 39 Filter - Welcome to the Fold: B 40 Oleander - I Walk Alone: C 41 Muse - Muscle Museum: A- (When this song came out, most of my friends were in love with it, a couple of which went out and bought the album.) 42 Long Beach Dub Allstars - Trailer Ras: B- 44 Goo Goo Dolls - Black Balloon: B+ (Wait, why wasn't this on the pop chart?) 45 G. Love & Special Sauce - Rodeo clowns: nfe 46 Save Ferris - Mistaken: nfe 47 Unwritten Law - Cailin: B- 48 Guster - Barrel of a Gun (4,3,2,1): B- 49 Cake - Let Me Go: C+ 50 Kottonmouth Kings - Bump: B (Disposable catchy rallying cry, a la Crazy Town's "Toxic" a month or two later.)

Ooh, nostalgia from the fall of my senior year in high school! 4. K-Ci & JoJo - Crazy: B+ (Whoa, wait a minute. Check your charts. This might've been Top 5 a year later, but no way was this song out way back in '99. They were on the album before that one, with no Top 10 hits at all. My guess for the correct #4 would be...)4. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy (Stop! Remix): A- (And upon looking back at the previous song title, I would definitely say this is the correct #4.)I think you must be right. I copied this chart right out of my written archive, and when I wrote these down, I always wrote song title only. As a result, there a lot of songs besides this one where I can't remember who did it. So, in that case: Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: BWell, I was, but it doesn't stop that from bugging me. Also, what about that new song "Run It"? I think from here on out, I should refer to the guy singing it as "X Brown", just to be difficult. . I'm missing the pop charts for the four weeks before the one I posted above, but from the weeks prior to those, it was looking like it was about to go recurrent. This particular week was its last on Alternative as well.

Actually, it was me who usually started these, though I think a couple other people did too. Pop: 1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: B- (heard it just a few too many times.)2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: C3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: A- (This is why I don't buy albums that I've only heard one song off of anymore. )4. K-Ci & JoJo - Crazy: D+4. Britney Spears - Crazy: A- 5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: C6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: B+ (yeah, guilty pleasure.)7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: A (Her best song. She went steadily downhill from here.)8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: B+ (I tend to either really like her songs or really dislike them. There were two of each from this album.)9. Sugar Ray - Someday: B10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: B-12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: B+ (It seems like a lot of people hate this, but it's so much better than anything they've released since then.)13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: B+14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): A- (not sure why I liked this so much, but I did.)15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: D (whatever happened to them anyway?)16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: D+ (easily their worst single.)17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: C18. Train - Meet Virginia: B19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: B (I had the entire thing memorized after hearing it like two times.)20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: B-21. Will Smith - Will 2. K.: F 22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: C23. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker: B24. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever: B+(Yeah, I'm one of those people who thought her first few songs (excluding "I Think I'm In Love With You") were actually good, sadly.)25. Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had: B26. Mandy Moore - Candy: A (One of my biggest guilty pleasures of all time.)27. Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos: A- 28. Robbie Williams - Angels: A- (There was no excuse for Jessica Simpson's hideous remake outpeaking this, even if it was only spot higher.)29. Melissa Etheridge - Angels Would Fall: C (extremely mediocre.)30. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss: B31. Blink-182 - What's My Age Again?: B32. Whitney Houston - Your Love Is My Love: C+33. Alternative: 1 Bush - The chemicals between us: B-2 Creed - Higher: B (For some reason I can tolerate listening to this much more than any of their other big songs, despite this being just as much, if not more overplayed than those.)3 Live - The dolphin's cry: B4 Foo Fighters - Learn to fly: A 5 311 - Come original: B+7 Cornell, Chris - Can't change me: B-9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: C10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: B12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the world: B13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do right: n/a14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: B- (it's fun to listen to when you're angry)15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla radio: D (ridiculously overrated.)16 Filter - Take a picture: A- 17 Our Lady Peace - One man army: A (this is probably my favorite song by them.)18 Blink-182 - All the small things: B-19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: C+ (lol.)20 Days of the New - Enemy: n/a21 Santana f/Everlast - Put your lights on: C- (this certainly sounded awfully similar to all the rest of his songs, considering Santana produced it.)22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: A- 23 Lit - Zip-lock: B+25 Staind - Mudshovel: D+26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: n/a27 Beck - Sexxlaws: B-28 Offspring - She's got issues: C+29 Sevendust - Denial: n/a31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: n/a32 Tonic - You wanted more: B34 Buckcherry - For the movies: n/a35 Godsmack - Keep away: n/a36 Apple, Fiona - Fast as you can: B-37 Beastie Boys - Alive: C-38 Fuel - Sunburn: n/a39 Filter - Welcome to the fold: B-40 Oleander - I walk alone: n/a41 Muse - Muscle museum: n/a42 Long Beach Dub Allstars - Trailer ras: n/a44 Goo Goo Dolls - Black balloon: B+45 Love, G. & Special Sauce - Rodeo clowns: n/a46 Save Ferris - Mistaken: n/a47 Unwritten Law - Cailin: n/a48 Guster - Barrel of a gun (4,3,2,1): A- 49 Cake - Let me go: n/a50 Kottonmouth Kings - Bump: n/a

Pop:1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: C (This was so forgettable that I almost didn't realize that it was still #1 after the 23,000th week.)2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: B+ (But if it was out now, it'd probably be at least a grade lower. I can't believe this was a #1 on my personal chart though.)3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: A (So was this one, and here's one that would probably be about four grades lower if it was released now, because of the same reason crash46 said.)4. K-Ci & JoJo - Crazy: D5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: B+6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: D+7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: B (One, this is still tolerable to me in its own right and two, at this point she was only a minor nuisance, so I don't feel that bad for still liking this. )8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: B (See above.)9. Sugar Ray - Someday: D+ (And they really haven't gotten any better.)10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B-11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: F-12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: F13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: C- (Too bad he just got worse and worse.)14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): D15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: D (Now here's one that I actually am ashamed for charting, even though it didnt' make my Top 20.)16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: D+ (This re-release of "Truly Madly Deeply" did not deserve to do so much better than "The Animal Song" or "To the Moon and Back" 2x.)17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: F- ( ) 18. Train - Meet Virginia: F (What a ridiculously pointless song, and WTF is the deal with "smokes a pack a day... oh wait that's me")19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: B+20. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: B- (Pure cheez but for some reason I can tolerate it.)38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: F 39. Blacque (featuring 'nsync) - Bring It All To Me: D (Where's the melody?)40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'nsync) - The Music Of Our Hearts: F- (And given that it featured those five dudes that could easily be mistaken for homeless if they did not wear shiny jackets, I was thrilled that this did not make top 20.)Alternative:1 Bush - The chemicals between us: B+2 Creed - Higher: D (This bored me to death by the end of when Hits 106 played it, as they did every Creed song, the first time around. But since this was the song that broke them onto pop, they felt they had to add it again even though by that time they were done with "What If.")3 Live - The dolphin's cry: B+ (Although this is not the type of song I usually like, I was in a horrible mood the first time I heard it and it suited well.)4 Foo Fighters - Learn to fly: A+5 311 - Come original: C-6 Kid Rock - Cowboy7 Cornell, Chris - Can't change me: B (I believe the only time I heard this was at Wolfgang Puck's in Denver, though.)8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar tissue: F- 9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: C10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: B11 Blink-182 - What's my age again?12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the world: B+13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do right: B- (Bands need not try this hard with their name.)14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: B+15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla radio: C-16 Filter - Take a picture: F17 Our Lady Peace - One man army: C-18 Blink-182 - All the small things: D (One grade off for being annoying stalker girl's favorite song at the time and the image it conjures.)19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: A-20 Days of the New - Enemy: nh/dr 21 Santana f/Everlast - Put your lights on: F (What is the point of this stupid song.)22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: D- (I remember thinking this sounded like a bad Metallica rip-off & still hold to that.)23 Lit - Zip-lock: A-24 Counting Crows - Hanginaround25 Staind - Mudshovel: C-26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: nh/dr 27 Beck - Sexxlaws: B-28 Offspring - She's got issues: B29 Sevendust - Denial: nh/dr 30 Smash Mouth - Then the morning comes31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: B-32 Tonic - You wanted more: B (It didn't? Well, I was, but it doesn't stop that from bugging me. Also, what about that new song "Run It"? I think from here on out, I should refer to the guy singing it as "X Brown", just to be difficult. . Well, so long as we're all being mock-offended by the name "Christ," your X Brown example would also apply to everyone named Chris(topher) or "Christine/a" or any derivations with a K. So I see in this thread we'll now have an X Cornell. Oh! Oh! Now I've crossed the line because we all respect him.

12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: B+ (It seems like a lot of people hate this, but it's so much better than anything they've released since then.)I think mostly people are irked by this because here's this seemingly innocent, sunny Christian band covering an old Alternative hit by The La's, written about heroin. People figure SNTR are completely oblivious to this point. Aside: I had no idea it was a cover for months and have actually only heard the full original once or twice since then. I wouldn't have known it was about heroin, either. 14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: B- (it's fun to listen to when you're angry)I don't understand this, considering it's a love song.

11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: F-I'm curious as to why this song repulses you so much, especially considering you gave seemingly more deserving songs slightly more favorable grades. 22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: D- (I remember thinking this sounded like a bad Metallica rip-off & still hold to that.)Are you thinking of the right song? I can still imagine your same grade, but this was a quirky power-pop tune with a bouncy chorus. I don't get your Metallica comparison.

I dunno, I just don't like Leigh's voice on "There She Goes".
The intro sounds a little bit like a powerballad from Metallica.

Pop:1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: D (Because of gross overplay, I'm STILL burned out on it) 2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: C+ (sometimes, if I'm in a good mood, I actually find myself dancing to this one!) 3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: B- 4. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: D- 5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: C 6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: F+ (I don't really like any of their songs when they're talking about themselves (i.e. Everybody (Backstreet's Back)), but this one, I can't stand. 7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: B- 8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: F+ (see my comment on Santana's song) 9. Sugar Ray - Someday: B- 10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: D+ (I wonder if he has any cheese and crackers to go along with that whine?) 11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: C- 12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: C+ 13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: C 14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): B 15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: C+ 16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: D- (I can't believe that this was a former #1 song on my chart!) 17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: D- (This song had no business crossing over from country!) 18. Train - Meet Virginia: B 19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: D- (see Christina and Santana) 20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: D+ 21. Will Smith - Will 2. K.: C+ 22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: D- (I didn't really like the original, and I do not like the remake!) 23. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker: C 24. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever: A- 25. Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had: C (The first time I heard this song, I was like, this is going to be my next #1 on my personal chart. But, I got tired of it rather quickly and the song never made it past #7) 26. Mandy Moore - Candy: B 27. Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos: B- ( 28. Robbie Williams - Angels: B- 29. Melissa Etheridge - Angels Would Fall: C- 30. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss: A- 31. Blink-182 - What's My Age Again?: D+ 32. Whitney Houston - Your Love Is My Love: A- 33. Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is: D+(Like Santana and others, this song, which I never liked very much in the first place, got grossly overplayed. However, I don't hear it much anymore, so that's what saved it from complete failure) 34. L. F. O. - Girls On TV: C (don't remember how this one goes, but as I recall, it was pretty mediochre) 35. Counting Crows - Hanginaround: C+ 36. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank: C+ 37. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: D+ (but his next release was great!) 38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: n/a (didn't Rick Dees edit this song out every single week it was on?) 39. Blacque (featuring 'nsync) - Bring It All To Me: B- 40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'nsync) - The Music Of Our Hearts: A- (this was the song that finally put an end to the back and forth battle over the #1 spot at AC, in which Phil Collins and the Backstreet Boys engaged for many weeks)

39. Blaque (featuring JC Chasez) - Bring It All To Me: B- (Apparently they totally believe JC Chasez has "thug appeal".) Nah, just Pop appeal. The urban radio version as well as the video version of the song only has Blaque.
Btw, it *is* credited to 'N Sync even though only JC Chasez is in it, probably because he wasn't well known enough to just use his name or something.
I'll post mine later when I actually have time.

Pop:
1. Santana (featuring Rob Thomas) - Smooth: A+ 2. Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5: D- 3. Len - Steal My Sunshine: B 4. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: F 5. T. L. C. - Unpretty: A- 6. Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: F (And how obviously gimmicky was it that they did these tender, teary-eyed ballads with the occasional futuristic "Look how cool we are"-type songs like this one thrown in.) 7. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: A- 8. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle: B- (I still find it weird how I've managed to exempt her for the most part from the pop tart era unlike Britney, BSB, Nsync, etc. This has always managed to be a guilty pleasure for me.) 9. Sugar Ray - Someday: A 10. Mark Anthony - I Need To Know: B+ 11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: A 12. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes: B- (Now that I've heard The La's version enough, I'd say this has gone down a letter grade since '99.) 13. Bryan McKnight - Back At One: B (Though I thought the "instruction manual" sounded stupid when I first heard it.) 14. 98° - I Do (Cherish You): n/a 15. 702 - Where My Girl's At: n/a {color=green](I remember it sounding decent, but not much else.) 16. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: F (This wasn't even a rip-off of "Truly Madly Deeply"; at least that had a melody and a hook, neither of which occurs here. I briefly wondered if they should be classified as a boy band after this. Possibly the best example of a "jump the shark" song for an artist.) 17. Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman.: D 18. Train - Meet Virginia: A 19. Smash Mouth - Allstar: B 20. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: B+ 21. Will Smith - Will 2. K.: n/a 22. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman: A- 23. Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is: D- (The uptempo is nice, but it was just as bad as any of her ballads.) 34. L. F. O. - Girls On TV: n/a (If it weren't for that "Abercrombie & Fitch" line, they'd just be a forgettable group.) 35. Counting Crows - Hanginaround: C 36. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank: A 37. Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon: F 38. Kid Rock - Cowboy: B 39. Blacque (featuring 'nsync) - Bring It All To Me: B_ (Shamefully I liked this when I first heard it (which was over a year after it came out). Three reasons: a) I wasn't certain the guy was from Nsync b) I was attracted by the "cuteness" of their voices c) somehow this managed to help me brood if I was feeling angry.) 40. Gloria Estefan (featuring 'nsync) - The Music Of Our Hearts: F
Alternative:
1 Bush - The chemicals between us: A 2 Creed - Higher: B+ 3 Live - The dolphin's cry: n/a 4 Foo Fighters - Learn to fly: A+ 5 311 - Come original: B 6 Kid Rock - Cowboy 7 Chris Cornell - Can't change me: A- 8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar tissue 9 Stone Temple Pilots - Down: n/a 10 Limp Bizkit - Re-arranged: A 11 Blink-182 - What's my age again? 12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Around the world: A- 13 Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Do right: n/a 14 Nine Inch Nails - We're in this together: n/a 15 Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla radio: A- 16 Filter - Take a picture: A+ 17 Our Lady Peace - One man army: A- 18 Blink-182 - All the small things: A (This was my first awareness of Blink, and the fact that they parodied all the current pop acts (most of whom I couldn't stand) gave them an immediate boost in my mind.) 19 Limp Bizkit - Nookie: A- (What can I say. Yeah, it's stupid, but it's awesome to rock out to.) 20 Days of the New - Enemy: n/a 21 Santana f/Everlast - Put your lights on: n/a 22 Stroke9 - Little black backpack: n/a 23 Lit - Zip-lock: n/a 24 Counting Crows - Hanginaround 25 Staind - Mudshovel: A- 26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: F (If I remember correctly, this was the one where the kid put a helmet on in the beginning of the video, right?) 27 Beck - Sexxlaws: C- (Didn't hear this back then, but earlier example of how his electro-jazz style just doesn't work at times. But I loved the video with refridgerators and other kitchen appliances have sex with each other.) 28 Offspring - She's got issues: C+ 29 Sevendust - Denial: n/a 30 Smash Mouth - Then the morning comes 31 Marcy Playground - It's Saturday: n/a 32 Tonic - You wanted more: A- 33 Sugar Ray - Someday 34 Buckcherry - For the movies: n/a 35 Godsmack - Keep away: F 36 Fiona Apple - Fast as you can: B 37 Beastie Boys - Alive:A- 38 Fuel - Sunburn: B 39 Filter - Welcome to the fold: n/a 40 Oleander - I walk alone: n/a 41 Muse - Muscle museum: n/a 42 Long Beach Dub Allstars - Trailer ras: n/a 43 Santana f/Thomas, Rob - Smooth 44 Goo Goo Dolls - Black balloon: A 45 Love, G. & Special Sauce - Rodeo clowns: n/a 46 Save Ferris - Mistaken: n/a 47 Unwritten Law - Cailin: B- 48 Guster - Barrel of a gun (4,3,2,1): n/a 49 Cake - Let me go: n/a 50 Kottonmouth Kings - Bump: n/a

Nah, just Pop appeal. The urban radio version as well as the video version of the song only has Blaque. No, what I meant and why I put it in quotes was, JC sings a line in the song in which he asks something to the effect of, "Do you like my baggy jeans, my Tims [Timberland boots], my thug appeal?"

26 Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide: F (If I remember correctly, this was the one where the kid put a helmet on in the beginning of the video, right?)I believe that was the follow-up, "Nobody's Real."

11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue: F-I'm curious as to why this song repulses you so much, especially considering you gave seemingly more deserving songs slightly more favorable grades. Basically, to me, "Scar Tissue" is everything that could have possibly gone wrong with a rock song. Even if they're nothing special, I find most rock songs (unlike most R&B ones, or at least those that cross over, though it doesn't excuse them either) generally make sense; I couldn't find that here and the line about the girl in a bra seems especially of place. (Aside: is he saying "it's not a compliment to know it all" or "sarcastic mr. know it all" or something else? I've seen both on lyrics websites; neither make sense in relation to the rest of the song anyway.) His voice sounds whiny, and while sometimes I can appreciate that when there's a good reason, I can't here. Also, the title just rubs me the wrong way. Yeah, that's the one. It's mostly what halo said, also I can imagine the verses in a Metallica song on a bad writing day. These things alone wouldn't make it necessarily bad, but then here comes the bouncy chorus, which by itself doesn't sound like Metallica, but placed against everything else which does, and given that the chorus sounds out of place yet not that dissimilar to everything else, it changes the entire thing from a mediocre rip-off to a bad rip-off.

Sarcastic mister know it all.
Although I must say that even if the song doesn't make sense, I'd take that anytime over a song that makes bad sense, regardless of what genre I'm listening to.
Also, I think for most songs that people (not necessarily you) view as not making sense, a better description would be that it has an open-ended, indefinite meaning, and I think it's more rock songs than any other genre that fit that description, which is an element that I enjoy very much.
