Has anyone checked out their new highly-anticipated album Hell Hath No Fury? It's getting rave reviews and I've listened to it several times and it's really that good! Solid productions from the Neptunes (unlike Pharrell's solo album) and tight rhymes from the brothers. Some of the beats are really insane, like "Trill", that's probably my favourite right now.

Oh yeah, Sunny. Oh yeah. The Neptunes, minimalist as they are, have really outdone themselves on this album. I mean, there's maybe only 3 beats that are average (Dirty Money, Ain't Cha, & We Got It for Cheap.) I saw a used copy at our store the week it came out (a promo) and we were slow enough that the manager told me I could listen to it to see if I wanted to buy it (It was employee discount day: extra 10% off our discounts on new & used items.) When I popped it in, I was just skimming to see if it would be worth the money, and by track 5, the tracks were so mind-blowing that it was literally breathtaking. I've never had hip hop joints impact me like that before. I actually just listened to it for the definitive time last night so I could count it properly when I make my Top Albums of '06 list. Here's my album ranker: (4/5) 01. Mr. Me Too (the panning effect is mind-boggling)02. Wamp Wamp (What It Do) (There's a drumline cadence waiting to be adapted. If I studied the beat enough to get the pattern down, I'd have so much fun replicating that on drums.)03. Trill (This beat makes me think of, like, robots in tunnels, or something futuristic and ominous.)04. Keys Open Doors 05. Ride Around Shining (It sounds like they just lifted the lid on a piano, ran a hand over the strings on the high end, held the pedal down, and just looped it.)06. Hello New World 07. Momma I'm So Sorry 08. Nightmares 09. Chinese New Year (In the first 10 seconds, it sounds like there's a faint string of firecrackers going off. I wish they had just made that part louder and kept that as part of the loop. The track would be a lot more awesome then, as opposed to the gunshot sounds Malice (or Pusha T?) makes with his mouth in the chorus.)10. We Got It for Cheap (Intro) 11. Ain't Cha 12. Dirty Money Drop what you're doing and go sample the songs: www.amazon.com/Hell-Hath-No-Fury-Clipse/dp/B0000TWME8/sr=1-1/qid=1166681573/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-2508666-0382217?ie=UTF8&s=musicThe Neptunes gave an insane, menacing track to Gwen for her song, "Breakin' Up." Too bad she drops the ball with it. (Hint: it's all repetive cell-phone metaphors.) Her lyrics on that album are so painfully half-assed and are often grammatically incorrect and/or don't even bother to rhyme. Definitely not as sharp as her first album.

While we're on the subject of the Neptunes, check out Kenna's album New Sacred Cow (I just recently came upon it through a friend) and it's amazing. It was produced by Chad Hugo himself and yeah, I can't describe how good it is, haha.

I was just now reading in a recent Blender issue (I'm kind of far behind on my music magazines again. I'm not in college anymore where they'd pile up at home, so I really have no excuse anymore) that the Clipse are working on their next album with the Neptunes (of course), Danja (f***in' A), and none other than Rick Rubin. Holy cow, that album has no reason not to be staggeringly good!
