I finally heard this in the past weekend, and it wasn't quite the disaster I had anticipated. The yodeling didn't come off as obnoxious (which I was afraid it would be), and the only thing I don't like is how the rhythmic speaking kind of resembles "My Humps." It isn't anywhere as bad as that song.

Yeah, although I had access to two pop stations while driving the nearly 4 hour round trip (plus a rhythmic station), that was one of the songs I didn't get to hear, maddeningly.
I've only heard it once, courtesy of a randomized Yahoo! spin whenever the first week it debuted at #43 was.

I'm trying like hell to convince myself I don't dislike this song, but Gwen makes it so damn hard. It could be a grower, but at the same time, it somehow sounds better in my head than when I actually hear it.
I'm just afraid how this album's success is going to reflect on the next No Doubt album's success. It feels like she's cementing herself as a solo artist, and her credibility as such might become inextricably linked to ND's, which will inevitably result in their next album tanking. But hopefully, that's the worst case scenario. (Well, actually, the worst case scenario would be that album never seeing the light of day, but I digress.)

I heard clips of this on 89x's morning show (by accident; I don't voluntarily listen to morning radio) because they've finally jumped ship on Gwen (they played "Hella Good" from the day "Hey Baby" came out 'til the day the song actually died, and "It's My Life" probably owes it just to that station that it was able to hit Alternative). Predictably, they were mocking her for the yodeling in the same sense that they were mocking CowBoy Troy for saying "shake your be-donk-a-donk" a year ago. I think the yodeling is kinda sexy. Too bad the track sucks cat ass, from what I got to hear.

I'm not familiar enough with the film, but somewhere in there is an obvious sample from The Sound of Music, apparently. I don't know (and haven't heard this song enough, anyway) if that's the yodeling or not.

This song is horrible. I am glad it is not performing well.

So I've read that the yodeling was what's sampled from The Sound of Music, on a song called "Lonely Goatherd." And after a few listens, I think it would be better if not for the annoying way that the title is performed. I scanned the back of her album tonight and realized she did a song featuring & produced by Akon.

So I've read that the yodeling was what's sampled from The Sound of Music, on a song called "Lonely Goatherd. Is it just that, though, or the orchestral instruments providing the background music during that part as well? Overall, I give this song about a B. I noticed that too. Being socially conscious didn't work out for him too well, ("Locked Up" and "Ghetto" were his first two singles), so what does he do? He turns on the sex jams and the records start flying off the shelves. f*** this guy. On the other hand, being a No Doubt fan, and being a fan of Gwen's first album overall, tonight I went ahead and bought the used copy my store got back this week already (when I wasn't there to buy it back personally *grumble, grumble*). I'll probably listen to the record tomorrow and let you know how it is.

And I'll bet you my checking account that Akon song winds up being single number two. No way the record label isn't salivating over the prospect of releasing that song right now.
