First of all, I'm sick of hearing just about everyone say "oh, I only watch that show during the tryouts". Yep. That's why so many people are on the phone lines voting during the season and that the ratings remain so ridiculously high after they move on past the preliminary round. Quit being a liar, I say.
Well, some thoughts about episode #3 (overall) to have been watched by me:
The rubber stamp reaction to being rejected got old after the second time we saw it. And they have to show it after every one.
I'd pull for the gray haired dude, but you know all the closed-minded teenagers that spend their entire evenings calling in votes are going to make him one of the first to go.
Why does Ryan SeaCrest even need to be on the show. He is such a third wheel.
The way they brushed aside the screamo kid was nauseating. It's nauseating how everything aside from Pop, R and B, and country is taboo on the show, and that's one of the least desirable aspects of it (out of all the reasons I can't stand it). Cause, I mean, I'm sure Rouben Studdard is 'idolized' far more than, say, Gerard Way.
A contestant said her favorite 'idol' is Kelly Clarkson. Really? Over whom? Have there really been any others?
The way they hyped up that Aretha Franklin wannabe for 25 minutes, telling her life story, only to have it be a truly horrible audition was despicable. Although I can't really talk much here because I've cited in the past about how much I hated how they always would warn us before the performance if it'd be extremely good or extremely bad. I'd prefer the surprise, but the surprise doesn't occur very often, so in this case, it was cold.
Some of these contestants are clearly only in it just to get themselves on TV in front of a national audience by any means possible, and shame on the program for letting them get away with it.
There just isn't much to like about the show, from my standpoint. Aside from a few humorous moments, the program provided minimal entertainment value and it simply made me further miss the days of yore when I was able to watch and enjoy the highly superior It's Showtime At The Apollo! every week.
