What I'm really talking about here is stuff that could be used to sell something, either in song lyrics or in the lyrics. I got this idea after reading a brilliant Oasis review which did this with all of the songs on (What's the Story?) Morning Glory (although said person skipped "Hey Now!" ). That one butchered some lyrics to make it suitable for commericals as well.
Here's some I've got in mind:
Vast songs I've thought of (songs that I could think of)
"Here" --> Want to take a vacation?... And as for being there: "And I never want to leave".
"Touched" --> Telescopes. Although that would mean the lyrics got changed to "I looked into those eyes and saw a world I wish I was in".
"Dirty Hole" --> Piercings.
"I'm Dying" --> For a hospital perhaps. Or considering content, it could be used for like a religious campaign.
"Turquoise" --> Preventing forest fires. "The forest burns, and within's something inside me".
"Somewhere Else to Be" --> Traveling.
"Thrown Away" --> Recycling.
"Winter in My Heart" --> An antidepressant commercial.
"Ecstacy" --> Maybe it could be about some nostalgia show/something about '80s bands. Taking the lyrics out of context, it could refer to Poison and the Cure.
"Candle" --> Crosby-made candles!! Enjoy the scent. Crosby: "Just take this candle"
"I Can't Say No (To You)" --> Drug problems, maybe?
Not entire albums, but others:
Violent Femmes - "Blister in the Sun" --> Sunblock.
Britney Spears - "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" --> Sex change, or gender confusion.
Sonic Youth - "Screaming Skull" --> A record store. [Song name-drops indie bands and SST, which they were once on].
Radiohead - "Airbag" --> The safety of cars.
Tool - "Parabol/Parabola" --> Selling of Maynard's Wine! "This bottle I'm holding, it makes me feel eternal."
I'll post more later.
