These songs are in two different battles on two different charts. At Hot AC, they're very close in points for the number two position on the year-end chart (Green Day, of course, has a deadlock on the number one spot with "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams".) Since Lifehouse is higher on the chart and they have more spins, they'll probably be #2 on the R&R chart, since the chart year ends in just a few days, but it could change for the calendar year chart.
A more serious battle is occurring on the Mediabase chart. For quite some time, I've been hoping that there will have been only four number one songs on the R&R chart, but that might not be. The last chart for the chart year will be figured on Sunday night, but, with Lifehouse at number two, just 46 spins away and losing less spins than Rob Thomas, it looks like they'll sneak in that last week at number one. But, with more stations switching to Christmas music this weekend, that might change. I hope so anyway.
Even if the song is number one on the December 12 chart, at least we know that eventually, there'll be a year with less than five number one songs, what with the way the AC chart moves slower and slower every year. Plus, assuming that Lifehouse stays put at #1 (which is very likely), at least there will be a record low number one count during the calendar year (In 2000, the chart year had only five number one songs, but 'N Sync hit #1 the first week of the 2001 chart year, which was December 8, 2000).
I don't know; I just love it when such records are broken. The same goes with daily high temperatures, since I'm such a weather freak.

At the rate things are going, it could be Kimberley Lock's "Up On The Housetop" that kicks Rob Thomas from the top. Of course, there are probably a few stations that have gone all-Christmas in the last couple days that haven't been removed from the panel yet that are contributing to the song's big gain.

Well, Rob held on, so four #1s in 2005 it is. Four! Four! That's unbelievable. A #1 for each season of the year. What were they and for how long? ("Breakaway," "Home," "Lonely No More," and what else, "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys?)

"Heaven"- 9 weeks (not counting weeks spent at #1 during the 2004 chart year) "Breakaway"- 17 weeks "Home"- 8 weeks "Lonely No More"- 16 weeks

Holy s***, and here I was, naturally thinking it was Rob Thomas who had four #1's in 2005. That definitely seems more conceivable. But then I thought, just which 4 songs would those have been? "This Is How A Heart Breaks", "Lonely No More"...."Bright Lights", and "Unwell"? Also conceivable on the AC chart.

Kimberley Locke probably won't be hitting the top. I'm not sure what the deal is, but apparently, enough Christmas stations keep changing over to Christmas music to give the song a temporary boost in airplay and every few days, Mediabase removes them from the panel, causing the song to mysteriously disappear. In other words, even though it was at number four on an update a few days ago, it is now not even in the Top 20. Looks like Rob Thomas is going to hold the top spot again this week. I was hoping that Lifehouse would take over so a fresh new batch of songs would start out the 2006 chart year. Oh well, that's the breaks. At least maybe a new record will be set for the lowest number of chart toppers for the calendar year. Well, actually it would already be set even if Lifehouse did hit number one, but it would beat the record by two instead of one. Plus, who knows? Maybe Lifehouse will be number one until July and another song could take over and be at the top for the rest of the year, setting an all-time record low of three number one songs.

Yes. "Heaven"- 9 weeks (not counting weeks spent at #1 during the 2004 chart year) "Breakaway"- 17 weeks "Home"- 8 weeks "Lonely No More"- 16 weeks I must have missed a week for Home... I thought it only spent 7 weeks @ #1 (NC).

And in the final week of the 2005 calendar year, Lifehouse has officially grabbed #1 by 1 spin.
