There are already seven Christmas songs in today's Mediabase jump! section.
It seems like every year, stations play Christmas music earlier and every year, more and more stations jump on the all-Christmas bandwagon. If I remember correctly, less than 40 AC stations (out of about 120) didn't end up going all-Christmas last year. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Christmas music loses its specialness when a station plays it non-stop for 7 weeks.

Exactly-and who started the trend of playing it so soon?!

Those songs (I believe) are from Delilah. If you click on Leaders, many of them show no format leaders.

There is one day in which stations should have the option of going all Christmas and that is December 25. Nothing wrong with throwing a Christmas song or two in per hour before that, but going all Christmas is just asinine.

So, the people are responding to it, and until they don't, the AC stations will do it.

I was tuning the radio one afternoon a few days ago and heard Christmas music. It was 80 degrees outside.

JCMF3 has it right. As much as I can't stand Christmas music in November, it's been wildly successful for the stations that do it. I'm not sure who started the trend, but over the past few years, it's gotten earlier and earlier, and hasn't backfired yet.
Soft AC WSNI in Philadelphia flipped to all-Christmas a few weeks ago.

Both stations here in Bangor are already all-Christmas. Almost every song in the AC top 20 is seeing a major spin loss right now. Only one song remains bulleted ("You're Beautiful" ), and that will probably be bulletless tomorrow too. #20 is already below 300 spins; at this rate it will have a double digit spin total by mid December.

Mediabase just removed the all-Christmas stations from the R&R panel charts (I noticed the massive drop in spins of Christmas Gold songs this morning). Those spin totals at the bottom of the chart will stabilize next week as those all-Christmas stations have been removed.
