I thought this was such a lifeless song at first, but I love it now (although burnout is approaching with no signs of slowing down in the real world). This song is preposterously simple; it's got a couple basic notes and chords on the guitar and a melody that requires minimal range. But it's the feel-good lyrics that make this song work so well.
I had no idea this was one of those TV-to-radio hits until a couple weeks ago. I tell ya; the second Grey's Anatomy puts a song that sucks ass on their show, I'm gonna really get mad.

Yeah, it's pretty good, but it's the simplicity that makes me like it the least of any of their songs. Gary himself said all he was writing was a straight love song, and that's fine and all, but it's like there's hardly any subtlety to it.
Plus, I was irked at how suddenly it pushed "Hands Open" aside, and I think that's also caused me to not warm up to it much. That and the ubitiquity it's achieved simply because it was on a TV show. It's such a craven way to get a hit song, too. Would it have been so hard to have taken an album cut from a prior album? Nonetheless, I'm placing the over/under on hit songs produced by TV shows (that aren't American Idol) this season at 4.5.

I love "Chasing Cars" as much any of their other singles, but this really doesn't deserve to be their biggest hit at Alternative, and likely by a large margin when all is said and done. They deserve their 5th top 10 with this, not their 1st.

I wouldn't say this is a shoo-in for the top 10 just yet. They do deserve a top 10 hit, so I hope they get there, but I'd be surprised if it did so.
