Nick's Notes:
Against my better judgment, I'm going to attempt to provide some commentary, to put some of these seemingly random songs in context.
1-10:
- "Buried Alive" returns to #1 because I caught it on the car radio on the way to work last night.
- I don't like how "What You Want" is having to fight its way up the Alternative chart tooth and nail.
- Excitement about Cults is at an all-time high because I checked their album out from the library this week (haven't listened to it yet) and learned they had a video for "Abducted" before "Go Outside," thanks to finally watching the premiere episode of the new 120 Minutes from last July at a friend's house a couple days ago. I had him DVR it then and never found the time to watch it until now.
- "The Green Valley" is by far my favorite track off the new Puscifer album.
- "Whirring" blasts back onto my chart, higher than ever, because the video (which is longer than the radio version, but still 2:30 less than the album version) was also on 120 Minutes.
- Burning out on "Someone Like You."
11-20:
- Burning out on "She Will" and "Pumped Up Kicks."
- "Aberdeen" still has room to grow, especially since I'll be seeing them live next month, Joy Formidable in tow.
- Riding high on the great night at work I had with my newest crush, "Give Me Everything" sounded better than ever before, the next day in the car. Minutes later, I completely fell for "We Found Love," hearing it on the radio for the first time, after having not cared for it weeks before, which was the only other time I'd heard it. Sandwiched in between (on a different station of course) was "Face to the Floor," which I hadn't heard much of yet, but reminded me just then of Undertow-era Tool. That song doesn't have anything to do with my crush, obviously, it just rocked so f***ing hard.
- Every Time I Die (ETID for short) I've known about since 2004, when I saw the "IBGALT" video on Headbanger's Ball. They're all over this chart because I finally downloaded one of their albums last summer, then the rest of their discography in October, once I learned they were coming to town back around Halloween. (My message board signatures are ETID lyrics. The one here is from "Kill the Music," the one at Pulse is from "We'rewolf."
- Need to listen to F+TM's singles again to get them moving back in the right direction. A good start would be to unwrap my copy of Ceremonials, which I bought the day it came out.
21-30:
- NFG were in town a couple weeks ago and, never having been a big fan before, to my surprise, I found that I really enjoy their new album, more so than any of their previous ones.
- Haven't listened to the new Blink album in a few weeks, so I need to get those songs turned around.
- Need to spend a little more time with I'm with You for the same reason. I haven't even heard "Monarchy" on the radio yet.
"Blinded" is easily the best song on the new Thrice disc.
Contenders:
- Need to unwrap my copy of Mylo Xyloto, which, like Ceremonials, I also bought the first week.
- Saw City and Colour this past week, so I crammed their new album into my brain beforehand.
- Burned out on "I'm on One."
- If "Mirror" is indeed the new CHR/Pop Wayne single, it better hurry up. It only charted based on listening to the album.
- "In the Dark" avoids falling off the chart because I happened to hear it in the car this week.
