#1-10:
- The Joy Formidable reignite the discussion of whether any song can match or surpass the current "weeks at #1" record (9 for "Bring Me To Life". Next week is going to be very close between "Whirring" and "Will Do" (Owl City will most likely have to settle for a #2 peak). However, in 3 weeks I'll be seeing TJF as one of several bands at The End's "Summer Camp" show. A live "Whirring" performance is almost sure to boost the song back up to #1 from wherever it may be. So next week may determine whether or not it can tie the weeks-at-#1 record.
- "For The First Time" is still churning along, still bulleted in its 23rd week. I know I said otherwise a few weeks ago, but there's a shot at the top 5 for this -- and at this point, possibly a top-20 year-end slot waiting for it.
#11-20:
- It's 2006/2007 all over again!
(1) "Bulletproof Heart" looks to have a fairly clear road to the top 10 in the next few weeks. MCR's "Sing" looked like a cinch earlier this year, but slowed pretty quickly. They haven't hit the top 10 since "Famous Last Words" in 2007.
(2) After this "Will Do"/"Whirring" mess gets sorted out, Switchfoot are the odds-on favorite to make it back on top for the first time since "Politicians" and "Happy Is A Yuppie Word" both finished in 2006's year-end top 20.
(3) At least MCR and Switchfoot have had hits in the past 4 years before now, though. "Fix Me" is 10 Years' first charting single at all since "Through The Iris" hit #5 in 2006 (I think; there were also a couple album tracks that made it, too), and here it is in the top 20 in just 5 weeks. - TDCC and TNAF continue their steady rises, poised to grab their 4th and 3rd straight top-10 hits next week, respectively.
#21-40:[/b]
- Not much action here. A few of these will hit the top 20, but I don't see any of them getting to the top 10. I guess it's noteworthy to note the quirk of Cake's "Long Time" spending its 4th straight week at #32, the past 3 unbulleted.
#41-50:[/b]
- I did my roughly-every-2-months playlist refresh this past week. The first immediate beneficiary is an artist who's had a #1 hit before (surprise, surprise). "You've Got The Love" is likely to outpeak any song currently in the 21-40 range. For that matter, the A Silent Film and Two Door Cinema Club debuts are too. "TTTS" is a worthy track to continue their top-20 string; top-10 is TBD.
- But boy, look at TDCC go! They've got a fifth "single" on here with the quickness, just 6 weeks after "Come Back Home" debuted. Don't count against "Undercover Martyn" rounding things out late this year, although it would probably end any top-10 streak they might have going. By that time, I'd be hoping for a new album pretty soon, anyway.
