More extensions, why not some new clues too!:
78. "your skeletons/ sing as their bones go marching in again" Foo Fighters - "The Pretender" (picpak)
74. Album cut. "You used to be alright, what happened. Did the cat get your tongue? Did the string come undone?" There's a number in the title. Yellow, red, indigo & the like. Radiohead - "15 Step" (a Nick O!)
72. Official music video for this flop single was a fan-submitted one. Oh, and they're up for a few Grammys. I don't know if the song was released here nationally as a single in all fairness. Artist has previous entries in here. A couple of those songs at least were also album cuts. Radiohead - "Reckoner" (a Nick O!)
71. Album cut. Don't kill/shoot... Artist has a correctly guessed song in this range. If that saying doesn't work, well.. It's like an interactive program (used for Yahoo, AOL and the like), with an article. Thrice - "The Messenger" (a Nick O!)
New ones, to make it go a bit quicker:
70. If you took out the first letter of the song title's second word, it would've fitted just as well.
69. This would maybe affect how you breathe. Album cut. Thrice - "Broken Lungs" (a Nick O!)
68. "I want crisps" Kaiser Chiefs - "Never Miss a Beat" (WotUNeed)
67. Carry-over was a song that just fell short of the alternative chart, after two songs already ran their course.
66. Title alludes to an '80's fantasy film. A main character in fact is in there. This through 63 are all album cuts. Thrice - "A Song for Milly Michaelson" (a Nick O!)
65. The most direct route between two points. Colorful things to help fly on the other part. (2-song entry) Thrice - "As the Crow Flies/Silver Wings" (a Nick O!)
64. You'd likely do this if you were a cemetary worker. Thrice - "Digging My Own Grave" (a Nick O!)
63. Nocturnal swimmers may do this. Thrice - "Night Diving" (a Nick O!)
62. Setting (or approaching) that airplay record [CHR/Pop]. Leona Lewis - "Bleeding Love" (mtm4319)
61. A certain element on the road, if taken literally. Album cut as well. Lupe Fiasco (f/ Matthew Santos) - "Streets on Fire" (a Nick O!)

More extensions, why not some new clues too!: 78. " Send in your skeletons / sing as their bones go marching in again" A totally ubiquitous rock hit.74. Album cut. "You used to be alright, what happened. Did the cat get your tongue? Did the string come undone?" There's a number in the title. Yellow, red, indigo & the like. In, rather than over, as a famous song title.72. Official music video for this flop single was a fan-submitted one. Oh, and they're up for a few Grammys. I don't know if the song was released here nationally as a single in all fairness. Artist has previous entries in here. A couple of those songs at least were also album cuts. Band name and song title each are one word and start with the same letter.70. If you took out the first letter of the song title's second word, it would've fitted just as well. Underperformed on the alternative chart compared to the two singles it was sandwiched between.68. "What do you want for tea? I want crisps"67. Carry-over was a song that just fell short of the alternative chart, after two songs already ran their course. One of 'em was a top five hit that went recurrent, the follow-up went Top 30, and this one, as stated, fell short.66. Title alludes to an '80's fantasy film. A main character in fact is in there. This through 63 are all album cuts. Based on his answers last time Nick possibly has a shot here. On the disc that's also a French band. Person's first and last name start with the same letter.61. A certain element on the road, if taken literally. Album cut as well. It's from a hip-hop album that had a previous entry.

74. Radiohead "15 Step" (Not too good with lyrics, I finally figured out the word "Rainbow" was plural and in the album title.) 66. Thrice "A Song for Milly Michaelson" (Yeah, I have no idea who that is.) 61. Lupe Fiasco "Streets on Fire"
Since they're fresh on the mind, I'll guess Radiohead's "Reckoner" at #72.

Time for an update!
78. "Send in your skeletons/ sing as their bones go marching in again" A totally ubiquitous rock hit. If lyrics don't help, the title resembles the name of a New Wave band.
70. If you took out the first letter of the song title's second word, it would've fitted just as well. Underperformed on the alternative chart compared to the two singles it was sandwiched between. The current single was no flop on the chart, not even on mine at that.
67. Carry-over was a song that just fell short of the alternative chart, after two songs already ran their course. One of 'em was a top five hit that went recurrent, the follow-up went Top 30, and this one, as stated, fell short. The parent album was my favorite album of '07.
The new ones: 60. Album cut. Think jewelry.
59. After many singles that hit #1 on alternative, they miss... yet again. Linkin Park - "Shadow of the Day" (Mega248)
58. Album cut. Set fire to a collection of ships. Thrice - "Burn the Fleet" (a Nick O!)
57. Lead single from experimental "metalcore" band and its title is a lactate reptile. The Dillinger Escape Plan - "Milk Lizard" (a Nick O!)
56. A track that was produced by Pharell but NOT the self-referencing song. The Hives - "Well, All Right!" (a Nick O!)
55. Follow-up to the main hit single from the lead singer of a rock band who hasn't appeared here since around three years ago. Serj Tankian - "Sky Is Over" (a Nick O!)
54. They always had a charting song on each of their albums but this one was BY FAR the most successful.
53. "fill my soul with vomit" Ludo - "Love Me Dead" (a Nick O!)
52. This lead single's title may be a reference to the band's critical prominence as they're #1 on many magazine's year-end albums lists. TV on the Radio - "Golden Age (a Nick O!)
51. Who gives a f**k about..." Vampire Weekend - "Oxford Comma" (Mega248)
Scoreboard: a Nick O!: 26 mtm4319: 5 Mega248: 5 crash46: 3 picpak: 2 WotUNeed: 2 friday: 1 BlahBlahBlah: 1

Alright, I clearly was on too late. But I put that on me, even if I kept accidentally telling myself that "SIO" was releaesd after it was.

I get what you were saying about #56 now. Let's try "Well All Right!" then.

I still don't recognize it. I'm not much of a "lyrics" guy and when a song gets overplayed, or I don't like it (obviously the former is the case here), I avoid it like the proverbial plague.
As far as lyrics go for typical rock songs, I'm very, very in the moment when I'm listening to a song. As in, unless they're idiotic or descriptive as hell and therefore stick out, there's like a moving window of the current and surrounding 5-10 words I can focus on at any given moment. Because of that, I don't retain much and often lyrics are too vague for me to have any idea what anyone's singing about. That is, if I can understand every word. If there's a word or syllable I can't understand, song comprehension slides considerably and often times, it's pointless trying anyway. I guarantee you I have no idea what the vast majority of my very favorite songs are even about, unless they're love songs.

I'm much the same way; "The Pretender" was my #2 song of 2007 and I didn't recognize the lyrics until the title was guessed correctly. (Though I may have picked up on it a year ago when it was, you know, current.)

Extended clues, as I'm still here: 70. If you took out the first letter of the song title's second word, it would've fitted just as well. Underperformed on the alternative chart compared to the two singles it was sandwiched between. The current single was no flop on the chart, not even on mine at that.Band name is an abbreviation. <-- relates with chorus (and title, less directly).67. Carry-over was a song that just fell short of the alternative chart, after two songs already ran their course. One of 'em was a top five hit that went recurrent, the follow-up went Top 30, and this one, as stated, fell short. The parent album was my favorite album of '07.Album title has seven words. This song has three. The new ones: 60. Album cut. Think jewelry. I guess I'll once again point out it's not a rock song/album.54. They always had a charting song on each of their albums but this one was BY FAR the most successful. Some people make jokes about the title and some lyrics. The follow-up, current single, is the second highest peak and they did the #100 alternative song of 2005.
