This is easily his most annoying song IMO. I can't grasp how this is now top 10 at Pop with a +940 bullet... 15 10 JASON MRAZ I'm Yours 5465 4525 940 33.060

It's not annoying to me, just bland. After a string of songs that did nothing outside of Triple A, I don't get why this is the one that breaks that string. I also can't believe this could outpeak "The Remedy" as soon as next week.

I hate to throw around the "P" word, but to me, there could be a whiff of it going on here. It came out around March, seemed like it'd just hang around on Hot AC, then it crawls over to Pop, it sticks around on both formats, and now it's exploding.
And Eth's right. I can't find a single thing about this song that makes it catchy or interesting or deserving of being anywhere near the top 10 of the pop chart.

I don't know about payola, because even though I don't think that song is all that great either, a lot of people I know are suddenly so in love with him even though they barely knew him from before.

Yeah, when the album came out early this year, I thought, "What, still with this guy?" I dunno, apparently he's had a loyal, invisible following that's only been swelling over the years, despite his inability to follow up "The Remedy" with any sort of legitimate hit. It's not bad or anything. It just shouldn't be an inevitable Top 5 smash. But I never saw the big deal about "The Remedy" 5 years ago, either.

I really enjoy this song, but for me, Jason Mraz is hit-and-miss because his songs live and die by their lyrics. He's basically a one-trick pony, doing his quirky lyrics and delivery of them. My favourite single of his is "Wordplay," likely because I'm highly prejudiced in favour of songs that have industry-related lyrics, but he's definitely made some missteps too (e.g., "Curbside Prophet.")
As far as why this single is doing well, I have my theory, as follows. "The Remedy" managed to do well for two reasons. The primary one is that, initially, people were hearing something in his sound, and it was refreshing. There wasn't a whole lot getting airplay that sounded similar. The other factor relates to the fact that most casual radio listeners, when hearing a song, won't pay attention to much besides the chorus the first several times they hear it. A good chorus can carry you pretty far before people actually pay attention, and "The Remedy" had one which could be taken completely out of context ("I won't worry my life away") and strike a chord with all the "deep" and "rebellious" preteens and young teens listening ("Yeah, man. Life isn't about worrying. Let's party."), and probably some normal folks too.
As I said, though, I think Mraz has the one thing he does well, and once people had heard that, he lost that newness factor which helped "The Remedy." Furthermore, his follow-up singles lacked that whole chorus which could be taken completely out of context and still be worthwhile. For example, if you take "Wordplay" and reduce it to a chorus, the average listener definitely can't adapt it to fit his or her own life and, really, what's clever (in my opinion, of course) in context is kinda stupid on its own.
That standalone chorus is the part "I'm Yours" brings back to the equation. (I also thought it had a very summer chillin' vibe, but I guess that wouldn't help it now.) Anyway, any lovesick teen can take this chorus and sing it to his/her object of desire, or the couple can make it "our song," or a bunch of people can drunkenly sing along to it at a barbeque or sleepover, etc. So, I think the initial reluctance to play it came because it was following up a bunch of songs that really didn't catch on. This one got helped out by the download phenomenon, though (when it got featured on some TV promo or something, I forget what Pulse people said it was exactly), and that catalyzed its radio success. When it actually got good callout, well, that's what I imagine brings us to the present power hit status.
This didn't seem quite as long in my head.

John Mayer led the dweeb-rock movement by scoring with Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson. Without him, Jason Mraz is probably nothing.
I hear this all the time, but wasn't expecting this to be anymore than one of those hits at Hot AC and Triple-A.

I also can't believe this could outpeak "The Remedy" as soon as next week. I think "I'm Yours" is cool. But, I can definitely see your point because I thought "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" was quite attention grabbing and catchy and "I'm Yours" is a sleeper hit.

I saw that! Balls! I wanted "Hot N Cold" to stay there until "Live Your Life" kicked it out, to be replaced 2-3 weeks later by "Just Dance."

Wow never expected him to get #1 with "I'm Yours." That's quite surprising. I also meant to point out that the track has a reggae melody.
