I don't follow the YouTube fads closely enough for that to have been it. It either has to be from a car commercial or something on TV, or from a sporting event, which would be too ironic because I couldn't believe sports could be anywhere on any of these guys' radar (or any of their fans). Unless it's soccer, which I would never watch anyway.

Wow. Yeah, that's very possible. And that's just because that was one of the more commonly cited "Pork and Beans" video references, so maybe a month ago, I finally sought it to see what the hell it was/meant. Since Steve was claiming it's familiar to him too, I thought maybe I knew it from someplace else, myself. So I wikipedia'd Numa Numa and unless there's a major source of exposure for that song that's somehow missing, that Numa Numa video is the only place I would've heard it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numa_numaen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragostea_din_teiSteve, just some simple research would've cleared up so many issues here.

Ugh, of all the songs they can sample, why are they sampling this?

I'm a fan of any song that can properly utilize the term "piss-poor".
But more than that, here are some reasons why I think I like this more than any rhythmic/R&B/urban track since Timbaland's "The Way I Are":
- Initially, I was relieved that T.I. had another song out that was better than "Whatever You Like" (which I think is still overrated, but I've eventually come around to like as well);
- I'm starting to accept that Rihanna is one of the best pop artists around (and "Disturbia" is helping out a lot in that regard);
- My overall tendency to give rhythmic-leaning stuff more of a chance (which is helped by having a CHR/Rhythmic station and a Rhythmic-leaning Pop station here in Chicago);
- And most of all, it's upbeat, catchy and positive without dissing anyone in particular. There's been a big turnaround in my life this year for the better, and odd as it sounds, this is an anthem of sorts for me. So there you go. Don't be shocked if this is my personal chart's next #1.

I'm a fan of any song that can properly utilize the term "piss-poor". Awesome. That'd be me saying that if I'd actually paid enough attention to the lyrics yet to remember that it's in there. (I think "Whatever You Like" is still overrated, but I've eventually come around to like as well); Honestly, I was kind of underwhelmed with "Whatever You Like" when I finally heard it. I mean, "What You Know" beats the hell out of this. So does "U Don't Know Me," although it doesn't lend itself particularly to Pop radio. He definitely deserves the success he's getting now, though. - My overall tendency to give rhythmic-leaning stuff more of a chance (which is helped by having a CHR/Rhythmic station and a Rhythmic-leaning Pop station here in Chicago) I so wish I had all the radio stations I had access to in mid-Missouri. With the new loss of my dear CHR/Rhythmic leaning Hot AC station (to f***ing 24-hour Christmas already ), which will become ESPN radio come 2009, St. Louis radio by itself sucks, frankly. It's seriously time to consider HD radio, satellite, or internet, because this has just gotten stupid, with only suburban and county access to my secondary Alternative station for the past 2 years.

With the new loss of my dear CHR/Rhythmic leaning Hot AC station (to f***ing 24-hour Christmas already) Wow. The other day at Apple Bee's I heard "Winter Wonderland" by the Eurythmics randomly sandwiched in between a bunch of non-Christmas songs and thought that seemed bad enough. As I've said before on both here and Pulse, the specialness of hearing Christmas music drops exponentially as stations devote more and more weeks to playing it 24/7. I know 24/7 Christmas music supposedly helps ratings, but I find it hard to believe that that could hold true for stations digging out the Christmas tunes now.

Nobody listens to Christmas music for content. They just put it on for the ambiance. That's my issue with it.

I quite enjoy this song, really. The sample choice may make it seem a bit novelty but otherwise it's fine. I did NOT however like "Whatever You Like" at all. It doesn't help that the verses sort of remind me of "Bust It Baby," either. I quite like the M.I.A.-sampled "Swagga Like Us," with Jay-Z (also appears on his album as first single), Kanye and Lil Wayne, probably a bit more than this overall. I don't really remember the I'm Serious singles and probably never actually heard those come to think about it.
As for the Christmas music... eh, never liked hearing it in abundance on the radio. And playing it 24/7 at this point is really jumping the gun. I always thought that was what the AC was for, which doesn't play new music anyway.

I know 24/7 Christmas music supposedly helps ratings, but I find it hard to believe that that could hold true for stations digging out the Christmas tunes now. Nobody should be legally allowed to play Christmas music before the day after Thanksgiving. Any station that does should be fined by the FCC. I was enjoying a nice, reasonably warm fall drive on Friday October 10 and was horrified to realize that what had become probably my 3rd favorite local station within the past year had become 24-hour Christmas three weeks before HALLOWEEN, goddammit. I was like Alex in A Clockwork Orange hearing Ludwig van Beethoven again after he'd been forced to listen to his beloved composer while viewing non-stop ultraviolence. I wanted to find whichever PD/MD that was responsible for the atrocity and projectile vomit on his face while punching him in the chest. OK, it may not be as simple as it seems to me, but why couldn't they let the station play out til the end of the year and just wait to flip it in January if they had to? I mean, the f***ing AC station is going to go 24-hour Christmas sometime after Thanksgiving anyway. Does a city really need two Christmas stations? Bulls***. I quite like the M.I.A.-sampled "Swagga Like Us," with Jay-Z (also appears on his album as first single), Kanye and Lil Wayne, probably a bit more than this overall. It was a great idea to build a sample out of "Paper Planes" and that lyric is the obvious choice if you're gonna build one out of one of the lines. That being said, that line looped (or probably any line from the song) doesn't musically lend itself well to being heard ad nauseum. So I just can't like the song as much as I'd hoped to. I don't really remember the I'm Serious singles and probably never actually heard those come to think about it. Does anybody remember hearing any of those songs at the time? (Or now? 'Cause I still haven't heard any of them.) And it's weird, because I think the Neptunes produced a couple tracks on it. Hell, I didn't even know that album existed until sometime a couple of years ago, when I was working at the record store and came across it. For three years I'd assumed he was introduced to the masses on Bonecrusher's "Never Scared," with "24's" being his debut solo single and Trap Muzik being his first album. Not so, evidently.
