Now here's a song I dug pretty much immediately after first hearing it. I love the low-pitched harmonizing that's prevalent in just about all their songs--it adds this sort of creepiness to their music (in a good way). Plus the hooks in this song simply can't be resisted.
I'll be picking up their Dark Light album soon enough; it'll be the first authentic album of theirs that I'll own (I have burned copies of the previous three).
The song is at #40 right now with a +46 spin trend. It still has plenty of time to become a sleeper, but I expected more than what I've seen so far on the chart. Considering their popularity, the fact that this song basically has "hit record" written all over it, and the size of Warner Bros.' pocketbooks, you'd think it'd be doing a little better. I've labeled Warner Bros. as 'incompetant' ever since they f***ed up promotion of the song "Californication" in 2000, though. Looks like they haven't changed.
HIM is on tour right now, and I've heard good things about their live performances, so I'm kind of interested to catching them when they come around here (they're with Finch and Skindred, neither of whom I'd be opposed to watching). I'd just have to fend off all the Hot Topic kids. It seems most people think of "Wings Of A Butterfly" as 'surprisingly good', and those kids are solely responsible for the 'surprisingly' part.

I like this song and a few of their others. Unsure if I should spring for the album though...

Finally showed up at #9 on MTV2's T-Minus Rock this morning. (That's the first I've seen it there anyway...) Way to finally show up to the party, guys...especially considering that it's their first national hit, and y'know...that they're favorites of your poster boy Bam Margera and all. Anyway, I don't get why this song isn't a Top 10 radio smash right up there with "Bat Country." The whole song is just one killer hook after another.

Nearly 8 weeks later, #35 and holding steady in spins.
Yep... underrated song of 2005, hands down. Not at this board, of course, being a #1 SMB hit and all. Unfortunately, nobody from this board has the ability to go take a rubber mallet and pound away at the bigwigs' heads at Warner Bros. until they decide to stop corn-holing this song.

I find it ridiculous that H.I.M. are getting the shaft when the payolafest that is 10 Years is marching right to the top 10 after nearly being recurrant.

But if that were the case, the clowns wouldn't have screwed over promotion on Billy Corgan's album to that extent. (I know it wasn't that radio friendly....) Unless your name is Linkin Park you more than likely won't be promoted well from there.

Well, A7X is doing alright (out of Warner Bros.). But yeah, they're one of the worst labels because of the way they seem to put all their eggs in one basket, only to have them totally abandon that basket a year (or less) later.

Well, I was about to leave for class, but MTV is just now playing this video as a Spankin' New song, so I guess I'll be watching it for the first time now.

Well, surely it isn't Mtv's responsibility, but the song's gaining a hundred spins now. Wtf. I'm happy, but Wtf. It's gotta be in its eighteenth week on the chart, at least (I don't know whether to count the year-end turnover or not).
And I thought "Killing Loneliness" was going to be tried as a new single (I'd rather they stick with this one for now, since no one's really gotten a chance to hear it).

I just hope it isn't sent to recurrent once it gets to its 21st week. I hope the label (hey, in this case, payola would be A-OK with me) is as perceptive as 10 Years' label and requests this be left alone for the time being.

It hit the Billboard Hot 100 last week at #97.

Up to number 23 now. Anyone know how many weeks it would be?
Just think how much bigger this could've been if Warnerbros. had pushed it like this straight from the starting gate. Not having to exert so much effort into getting the initial radio supporters back on board. I haven't heard the song on the radio all year.

The March 10th chart marked week 21, so it looks like we won't have to worry about the recurrent rule preventing the song from living up to its full potential at least.
As for me, I didn't really care for this when I first heard it back in September but now that I'm actually hearing the song on the radio it's really grown on me. It's finally on my personal chart, which I'm now behind on by two weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to fix that in the next day or two.

Well it looks to have finally peaked. Did this actually reach #15 in any final update? Regardless of that answer, still an incredible sleeper hit (as I predicted, I guess .) Should have been a top 10 though (for reasons I stated earlier here about the timing of its real push.)
