I think it would have been better if they knew which song to name the album after from the album . Well, seriously when I first read that title I thought, "How could people had laughed out Billy Corgan's 1995 title? Besides, I always thought that was a slightly intentional self parody." But that aside, I really dig the two singles from the album quite a bit. The rest still hasn't done as much for me but to be fair I don't know if I've given extremely thorough listens. For me, the rest is just good and only occasionally great. Not bad, but I feel like I'm going to like their records every time more than I really do. Even if I currently have it ranked last, it's not like I thought there was a big distinguished quality difference in the first three records.

Oh wow. I actually really liked it as well as found the title fitting. Nice to see it selling well. There was only one song that didn't instantly catch me, but I don't remember which one it is now, because I'm quite happy with them all.

I really dig the two singles from the album quite a bit. The rest still hasn't done as much for me but to be fair I don't know if I've given extremely thorough listens. All my listens so far have been whilst doing other things (showering, sitting outside while the music plays inside, driving, etc.), but none of the other songs have exactly leapt out of the speakers at me. I can still just tell, though, that X&Y will remain my favorite. What bugs me about the disc, though, is that one song is really two, but then there are 2 other tracks with hidden songs inside of them, like Fly or Die, by N.E.R.D. Just f***in' separate 'em all and have, what, a 13 track album, already. Anyway, as quoted earlier, doesn't seem to be an amazing record, but more undivided attention is needed.

I think at first I was more skeptical because it seemed like fans and critics were trying to distance the band's direction from X&Y when I felt that's where a lot of the supposed-experimental stuff began in the first place. Hell, Brian Eno even guested on "White Shadows" for instance! And a single from the album directly sampled Kraftwerk.
That aside I'd say that this is still a generally great album. The first three singles are still my favorites, though. I give it a 4/5, as with the first three albums.
01. Violet Hill 02. Viva la Vida 03. Lost! 04. Death and All His Friends 05. Yes 06. 42 07. Cemeteries of London 08. Strawberry Swing 09. Life in Technicolor 10. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
Haven't heard "LIJ" on the radio but maybe without the other song tacked on it sounds more interesting. I only pick up on parts of that one. "Chinese Sleep Chant" and "The Escapist" are the songs at the end of 4 & 5 on my rankers.

Viva la Vida: 4/5 01. Violet Hill 02. Viva la Vida 03. Lost! 04. Death and All His Friends/The Escapist 05. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love 06. Cemeteries of London 07. Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant 08. 42 09. Strawberry Swing 10. Life in Technicolor
Since becoming a single and hearing it on the radio about 3 times last week, "Lovers in Japan" moved from 8-5.
