Mims seems to be the ultimate proof that the most generic version of anything will always be successful. If the fact that it was #1 on iTunes isn't evidence of that, I don't know what is.

I'm almost totally convinced that percentage of Pulse members not a part of the Alternative forum that are gay exceeds 99%. Well, then I must be part of that <1 percent, since I'm straight and am not part of the Alternative forum

The percentage of topics in the Pulse lounge that have something to do with homosexuality and/or sucking dicks is quickly nearing 99% as well. I mean, I realize some of these people have no one in real life with whom they can discuss "gay stuff" and I try to be considerate of that, but it's getting ridiculous. I suppose it's better than having 99% of the topics pertaining to politics though.

I didn't even realize until I heard it on MySpace that Mims is a guy. For some reason, I just assumed it was a chick. f*** that song. If that doesn't have one-hit wonder written all over it... Still can't believe that Jim Jones song didn't do better. That track is fire. Can't believe Dashboard Confessional is getting another chance on Pop radio. Especially since "Don't Wait" didn't even do all that well at his "home format." By how huge that Robin Thicke song is, I would've thought it would be about a Top 20 hit by now.

I thought Mims was gonna be an all-bimbo vocal group like Danity Kane. The reason is because I didn't think guys actually referred to themselves as "hot" unless they're, uhh, like PMB majority members.

Yeah, that was probably the underlying factor in my assumption, as well. For a guy to refer to himself as hot, as in "big time" or "on fire," he's got to lay that out contextually. Something the confines of a song title doesn't allow. And an ambiguous artist name like that doesn't help.

I actually like that Mims song. Guilty pleasure of the year. Usually, though, this is the type of song that I try to stubbornly avoid from charting. Afterall, I avoided "Hollaback Girl" and that was from an artist I actually can respect.

I actually like that Mims song. Me too! I think the chorus is the most retarded thing ever, but the beat and verses are pretty hot.
Although Nick, I can't believe you like "We Fly High".

OK, what the hell is "The Kill" doing about to be in the top 50 now (and already in Hot AC's top 50). San Antonio has this at 94 plays. Did somebody try to perform it on American Idol?

Akon is a combined +2582 with 2 songs and >+2000 overall. Yeah, that was probably the underlying factor in my assumption, as well. For a guy to refer to himself as hot, as in "big time" or "on fire," he's got to lay that out contextually. As in, "I'm hot 'cuz I'm fly/You ain't 'cuz you not"? But yeah, this sucks; I also agree that "We Fly High" was at least decent and deserved to do better considering what other rap songs have done so well. Kinda surprised that Red Jumpsuit had such an easy time making the top 20, and how is Hilary Duff still getting hits?

Nick, I can't believe you like "We Fly High". BAAALLINN'! The track seals it. And he's not saying anything mind-numbingly asinine. No, it went for adds *again*. The radio edit sure isn't hurting it, either. Aw, that stinks! It's been totally neutered! Jared, how could you? Akon is a combined +2582 with 2 songs and >+2000 overall. I actually heard "Don't Matter" for the first time tonight, and it beats the snot out of both "Smack That" and "I Wanna Love You." It may even be his best single so far. What rubbed me the wrong way about it, though, was the chipmunk background vocals that say "Cuz I got you, babe" in the chorus. I'll probably be able to get past that after awhile, though. What I really liked about it was the first verse, particulary the section I've bolded: Nobody wanna see us together Nobody thought we'd last forever I feel I'm hopin' and prayin' Things between us gon' get better Men steady comin' after you Women steady comin' after me Seems like everybody wanna go for self And don't wanna respect boundariesTellin' you all those lies Just to get on your side But I must admit there was a couple secrets I held inside But just know that I tried To always apologize And I'ma have you first always in my heart To keep you satisfied So why does he have to resort to "Smack That" and "I Wanna f*** You"?

Aw, that stinks! It's been totally neutered! Jared, how could you? In my previous post where I linked to the radio edit, I was actually going to say it was the musical equivalent of a castration, but backed off. It still clearly sounds like a rock song... but yeah, it's different. I also noticed that the "this is who I really am" part is (I think) from the first attempt at a radio edit that I heard. Kinda weird hearing two different radio edits spliced together.

I don't prefer this version, obviously, but my overall degree of discontent is not enough to hold me back from asking for an mp3 of this song, if it's out there.

Yeah, I really didn't mind Akon at all before he put out those two pieces of crap. Haven't heard "Don't Matter" yet though. LOL, "Rockstar" just re-entered the top 50 again. Without even looking at the airplay data I'll bet that this is the result of about 10 stations having the song in medium-high rotation and the rest of the panel not playing the song at all. I see "U+Ur Hand" is up to a +550 bullet now after doing absolutely nothing for months. Wtf. And to think that 6 months ago it looked like both Pink and Beyonce' were finally on their way out.

I'm hot 'cuz I'm fly/You ain't hate 'cuz you not Well, okay I guess. The above correction I made after reading this. Mims says he wrote "TIWIH" in less than 2 hours (huge surprise, I know). And although he's "involved with somebody" right now, he likes to keep his "shoe game on point because that's the first thing a lot of ladies look at is shoes" (he was on his third pair of Timberlands that week).

#1 sounds exactly like a typical #1 pop song.
#8 sounds exactly like a typical top 10 pop song.
The music in "Give It To Me" is identical to that of "How You Want That" by Loon and Kelis.
I haven't heard the new Avril Lavigne, but that's a rather big bullet for a song coming off the lackluster performance of "Keep Holding On".
I was hoping "Into the Ocean" would go a little bit further.
"Wait A Minute" is going in the wrong direction.
I hate sounding so negative in this post, but that's what happens when the bad songs outnumber the good songs by such a huge margin.

#1 sounds exactly like a typical #1 pop song. I had a nightmare that "Better Than Me" was in the top 10...it wasn't, but then I saw "It's Not Over" at #1 which was just as bad.

Okay, here's some commentary: Daughtry's song is not #1-caliber. Sorry. It's not. At least Justin managed an unexpected week at the top, though. "The Sweet Escape" does not deserve to be carrying on. "Cupid's Chokehold" is better than most of the crap on pop radio, but I'm shocked it's doing this well. I cannot believe it. In fact this is so huge they may end up being one-hit wonders. I'll always remember them as the band with the novelty song that works in the names of as many emo bands as possible; the tykes at the club in Memphis whom I had no idea were the band "Gym Class Heroes" as we all stood on the deck behind the club waiting for them to go on; the band few gave a damn about at last summer's Warped Tour, even, before Snakes on a Plane, during "The Queen and I," and after "Cupid's Chokehold"-'s first unsuccessful run. Akon doesn't deserve yet another Top 5 smash with this one, nor does Fergie, even though these 3rd singles are better than their respective first two. Still not hearing "If Everyone Cared" on my Pop station. Finally heard half of "Give It to Me" yesterday. Not enough to judge it on. at Pink's payola. Surprised "Arms Race" never even got to the Top 10. "How to Save a Life" is such a beautiful song. I heard it again today in Qdoba. Okay, musically, "You" is fine. Lil Wayne ruins it, though, especially with the "good brain" line and his ad-libs at the end. The only thing wrong with it musically is P.M. Dawn, Nelly, and now Lloyd have all sampled Spandau Ballet's "True." How the f*** is "I Wanna Love You" not recurrent yet? Just leave already! "Better Than Me," while not as well-crafted a pop song as "Lips of an Angel," proves that Hinder aren't complete all-around misogynist assclowns. Haven't really heard "Before He Cheats," still. Or "Over It." Where the hell did this Beyonce song come from and why is it doing so well? How the hell is Bow Wow not recurrent yet? To "We Fly High": Don't go! I just recently grew fond of you! That's real s*** luck that "Read My Mind" is having such a tough time. I haven't heard the new Avril Lavigne, but that's a rather big bullet for a song coming off the lackluster performance of "Keep Holding On". Technically, "Keep Holding On" was the single from the Eragon soundtrack. "Girlfriend" is the first single from her new album. Kind of like what Kelly Clarkson did with "Breakaway" and "Since U Been Gone."

Hurray for Daughtry! WELL-DESERVED, in my opinion! ;D
I cannot believe that Gym Class Heroes are the likely contenders for the next #1! I would have NEVER have guessed that a month ago. But it continues to gain >+1000, and the funny thing is, it will have gained over 2000 spins in two weeks and moved only one spot in the top 10 (likely to go 5-4* this week).
I love looking at the Mediabase Top 50 and never have heard a lot of them. Both Diddy songs, the Omarion song, Lloyd, Lumidee, Killers, Blue October... hopefully I'm not missing too much.
I am also VERY happy to see Robin Thicke getting ready to make the top 40. Very unique song. I hope this goes at least top 30.

I've become more and more disconnected with this chart in recent months. Here's what I haven't heard or are only barely familiar with (using today's Mediabase numbers):
26 24 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Before He Cheats (and I'm just now realizing that this is so high) 28 28 KATHARINE MCPHEE Over It 37 29 BEYONCE Beautiful Liar f/Shakira (I heard it once yesterday) 36 31 NE-YO Because Of You 31 32 DIDDY Tell Me f/Christina Aguilera 35 33 FRAY Look After You 34 34 HILARY DUFF With Love 47 35 AVRIL LAVIGNE Girlfriend 39 37 DIDDY Last Night (f/Keyshia Cole) (but why does Diddy have two rising tracks within the top 40?) 42 42 BABY BOY The Way I Live 41 43 DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL Stolen 56 47 DAUGHTRY Home (all I've heard is the clip they play at the end of American Idol)
I probably need to listen to this more, but is "Forever" about to hit the top 50?! On first listen, that didn't strike me as a Pop song at all.
And wow, Akon is even able to revive the long-dead career of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, it seems.

I probably need to listen to this more, but is "Forever" about to hit the top 50?! On first listen, that didn't strike me as a Pop song at all. It sounds pop-friendly enough to me, especially if "Last Resort" could make the top 40. Am I looking at this right? #50 has 342 spins on today's update?! And what is Ashley Tisdale doing about to make the top 50? Radio Disney exists for a reason.

What the hell happened to "Runaway Lover"? -1663? That was actually one of the few decent rap songs that's come along recently.
I finally heard "Girlfriend" a couple days ago. My god, it sounds just as hideous as her cover of "Chop Suey!" from a few years ago. The only difference is that one wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

LOL, it's not that bad. Catchy, but it sounds more like an Ashlee Simpson song than an Avril Lavigne one.
As long as she has something like "Losing Grip" on her album I'm happy.
