I'm excited because two big ones were announced for first quarter of 2006, both right home in Toledo. Typically it's only the little guys that ever come to play here, and I have to drive to Detroit or Cleveland to see the big shows.
2/21/06: Nine Inch Nails (with support TBA) 3/16/06: The Taste Of Chaos Tour (with Deftones, Thrice, Atreyu, dredg, Story Of The Year, et al)

Tomorrow the Spin Doctors are doing a free concert for KPRI listeners. I'm still on their mailing list, so I'm going...

Well, I don't know if it would matter for some, but it seems like I find my way in more local shows than anything else.
01/27/06: VAST (w/ Exit. 21+ show, so unless I'm lucky I won't be there) 03/24/06: Nine Inch Nails (also Austin. I saw them San Antonio and I was blown away. Oh, and the day before is in Corpus Christi) 05/06/06: Ministry (w/ Spyder Baby. $25, and in S.A.)

Mobile is one of the worst mid-sized cities for concerts. But hey, we were able to get D4L earlier this week... Obviously, Atlanta, Birmingham, and (not recently) New Orleans are the main cities I look to, but there's nothing much on the horizon right now.

The NIN went on sale this morning at 10:00. My girlfriend got the tickets at 10:05, and by then, they were already fresh out of general admission. F***ing scalpers.
The seats say "row 1", which rules, as long as it's a good position with respect to the stage, which we're unsure of.

I guess that's the nice thing about San Diego (or one of many ), there's hardly any music fans but all the artists want to come here anyway so we get concerts and you'll never have to worry about them selling out, unless you're trying to see Madonna, Britney Spears, or Matisyahu (don't ask, 'coz I don't know...[/color]) Anyway, just got back from the Spin Doctors. They can still perform, but the poor guys seem to have lost their ability to make music. Everything they did off their new CD sounded like a loud mess (including "Can't Kick the Habit," which would have been okay but they added about six minutes of jamming to the end which did not need to be there), though "Two Princes," "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," and that pocketful of kryptonite song were good. The openers were Tristan Prettyman, Kathleen Edwards, and some local cover band. Kathleen Edwards was easily the best IMO. The only good part of Tristan Prettyman's set was when she broke a string. The cover band was better than her. Next month I'm gonna go see Thomas Dolby and the English Beat.

While the VAST date was correct, it got cancelled. Haha! Oh well. I'm not going to Ministry, because of other plans around that time.

Well, I recently found out that dredg (who I've yet to see) won't even be on the f**king St. Louis date of Taste of Chaos. Oh yeah, and now I've got to make sure I go to see 30 Seconds to Mars (with Emanuel & Aiden? ) in St. Louis on April 6. They just rolled out dates for a rather large tour, so those interested should investigate.

I actually meant to Pm you about that St. Louis 30stm show a few days ago. I'll be there for the Toledo show for shure on March 31 (appropriately marking the day of the third year Kim and I have been together), and possibly again April 1st in Chicago.
Sorry to hear about the lack of dredg. It's really them and Atreyu that make Taste Of Chaos '06 a must-see for me.

I saw Thomas Dolby and The English Beat at the House of Blues last night. Bob Mould is coming up on Feb. 9.

Taste of Chaos, for me, is Feb. 21. But that same night is when the Sisters of Mercy come to Austin, news which got me excited. I think I'd rather go to that one but probably my friends would more likely go to ToC.

Now they have me scheduled to work at 4 AM on Feb. 10 so unless I can find a sub (ha) I won't be able to see Bob Mould. Ah well, have David Gray and Chris Botti to look forward to in March.

Last night was the night for the NIИ. I was unsure of what to expect, because I was about to shamefully show my face in this crowd having only fully familiarizing myself with the latest album and a bunch of gold hits. But it was easy to act like I was better than that. It was an incredible concert, well worth the $39 ticket charge. Just about everything I'd hoped to hear was covered (except "Hurt"). And I won't spoil any details, but if any other band ever attends a Nine Inch Nails concert, they'll be ashamed to even try to insert any type of visuals into their own shows.
[edit: I noted that the show was the first on the tour, which is wrong. It was listed first on a one of the four comemorative posters that are being sold for each quarter of the tour, I guess. I heard about what happened during the previous show in Grand Rapids, with Trent cutting his show short because of some asshole throwing debris at him, and I suppose it's appropriate to divide the section of the tour at that point.]
In other news, this has all the makings of all that went wrong with a The Mars Volta/System Of A Down duo, but Avenged Sevenfold and Coheed and Cambria are now touring together. I'm likely to be there for the May 12th date in Detroit.

F***, Eighteen Visions is on that A7X/Coheed bill as well. Now I can actually watch them having known a couple albums worth of songs.

Last night was the night for the NIИ. Just about everything I'd hoped to hear was covered (except "Hurt"). They didn't do "Hurt"?! You're kidding me. Nice backwards "N," by the way. I'm assuming the 5/6 TBA date on the A7X/C&C tour is for St. Louis, since they'll be going to all the other places east and north of there right after. And f***in' A! Eighteen Visions will be the opener on my show! (But heck, even Head Automatica wouldn't have been a complete letdown, themselves...) Vicky & I are so jazzed. My only fear for them not announcing it yet is that KPNT may try to be corralling other bands to add to that date and ship everybody out to the shed, making that their spring festival concert. That would suck balls. I'm gonna be so mad. There's no way in hell I wanna see those 2 outdoors, while everyone else is gonna be seeing 'em in St. Louis' equivalent of the Pageant or (more likely by then) the Family Arena. Anyway, assuming it's St. Louis, maybe I'll luck out and see the show indoors after all.

If I can be fast enough to get the tickets before its imminent sellout, I'll be seeing Tool on May 15th at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Fastest $66.66 I'll ever spend.
89x also announced a very underwhelming lineup for its 15th birthday bash, which includes:
AFI Dashboard Confessional Hawthorne Heights The Yeah Yeah Yeah's Guster Mindless Self Indulgence We Are Scientists Say Anything Ashes Of Soma Love Arcade Bedouin Soundclash
Yeah, I'd love to see AFI for the first time, but every other choice I really could give or take either way. Plus it's the same format as last year with the three stages at three different venues, and I do not trust them to straighten out everything that went horribly wrong with that format last year. With the hole in the wallet that Tool's about to create, I'll pass on this and wait for next time with AFI when they'll have more stage time, unless they really spruce up this lineup with some late additions.

Well, sons of a bitches. I didn't get the tickets because they sold out in under two minutes, apparently.
Then at about 10:10 am, which is eight minutes after I was notified of there being no tickets available, I went to ebay, and an auction had just ended with the same tickets going for $545.00. Never in my life have I had more of a desire to commit murder.

Weren't the venues for this tour going to be fairly small? Still, perhaps there was a presale you could've been hip to, but maybe it would've been a fanclub only thing. Who knows.
I didn't really put much thought into it, seeing that the closest they'd be coming to me is Kansas City, which I've never been willing to go to before, just to see a show. If sellouts weren't instantaneous, I might've given the KC show a second look, if my diehard friends were interested. (For clarity, they're the die-hards, not me. I mean, yeah, Tool's my all-time favorite band, but come on...)

Yeah, that probably answers it. Those Collective Unconscious people that pay $40 for first dibbs on the tickets probably closed most everything out by the time it even went on sale. I'm just not hardcore enough to want to pay that fee and the ticket price, although I'd much prefer to see them with a room full of fan club members than a bunch of kids showing up with their parents who think they're cool just becuase they know "Schism". That's probably what we're gonna get when they come back around and play some arenas.

Well, last Friday I went to see Chamillionaire in Hamilton, ON... despite being the only Asian there, I didn't get shot! He was great live though, definitely copping his album after that. There were way too many kids, it was a 16+ night.
Coming up in Toronto: August 9: Gnarls Barkley August 22: Mary J. Blige w/LeToya

Well, last Friday I went to see Chamillionaire in Hamilton, ON... despite being the only Asian there, I didn't get shot! I just went to the Warped Tour earlier today. I may elaborate on that tomorrow when I have the list of bands I saw in front of me, if I remember to come back. I'm seeing Rancid on Friday (hopefully on Saturday, too, since they're playing 2 nights in STL), and AFI on Sunday. Hopefully I'll be chosen for the Despair Faction meet and greet. They haven't opened up for submissions yet, though, so I have to watch their site like a hawk for the next few days leading up to the show. Anyway, that's all the concerts on my plate for now. I'm surprised more aren't coming through that I wanna see, but there aren't. Hopefully I'll be able to afford the Reverend Horton Heat (again) with the HorrorPops in September.

Still nothing coming up for me. Family Values is coming to Pensacola a week from today, but the lineup isn't impressive enough for me to shell out the ticket and gas money. I might be going to see Mute Math in New Orleans next month. Well, I didn't see them. It's been over 8 months since I've been to a concert now.

My second Rancid show has been confirmed! Re: Warped. The only band I made sure to see all of was Eighteen Visions. I've seen almost all the others I cared about at least once (mostly at previous Warped tours) in the past, so if 18V wasn't on the bill, I imagine I would've stayed home, what, having no income and all. I made an effort (or knowingly happened) to see (in order of time slot): The Bouncing Souls (in their 3rd to last song when we got there )Anti-Flag (saw most of)Greeley Estates (happened to walk by)The Casualties (saw half of)Rise Against (saw most of)Less Than Jake (saw most of)Eighteen Visions (saw all of and went to both meet & greets, mainly because there wasn't anything better to do the second time)Helmet (saw the last few songs)Thursday (fortunately were playing while waiting for the first 18V m&g)The Living End (saw a few songs of)Misery Signals (unfortunately left the Living End early to see a couple of their songs; I liked their old lead singer better last summer)Underoath (saw most of the first song and decided after "It's Dangerous Business" that I'd much rather be doing something else. They easily had the biggest crowd of the day.)Valient Thorr (happened to see last song while waiting for FATA)Billy Talent (saw first 2-3 songs)From Autumn to Ashes (saw first 2-3 songs)Against Me! (luckily for me, they were playing "Don't Lose Touch" as I was walking by)Motion City Soundtrack (Purposely walked by them)The Early November (happened to walk by)Gym Class Heroes (saw them perform their brand new single)Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (watched all of, for lack of any place better to be)Senses Fail (went and saw a song and a half)Stretch Arm Strong (watched 2-3 songs)NOFX (watched all of and left before Saves the Day closed out the day)Since Vicky only cared about 18V period, she opted to stay home and not spend the whole day ping-ponging along with me as my shadow on a day with temps in the 90s. She's done enough of that the past two years as I try to maximize my time there. I did go with a friend and one of his friends, who ended up being a cool guy.

So I ended up seeing the Gnarls Barkley show last night. I was 10 minutes too late to get my ticket from Ticketmaster since they stop selling an hour before the show starts. Ugh, so I ended up buying it from a scalper. f***ers. Anyways, the show was so good. Makes me like them a lot more, I might actually get their album too. The crowd was so mixed, which I guess was expected, but I don't think I've ever think I'd ever see that in one concert. They were dressed in fast food uniforms and Cee-Lo was hilarious. The opening act was Peeping Tom and they (well, him, it's a one-man band apparently), were really good and energetic. I definitely need to "acquire" their album to check them out.

This is who I watched over the weekend:
Day 1:
Blue October Aqualung (overheard a few songs) Panic! At The Disco The Editors (about 3 songs) Umphrey's McGee Secret Machines (the last 5 or so songs) The Raconteurs (first 6 or so songs) My Morning Jacket (last 4 songs) Violent Femmes Ween (maybe 6 songs total) Death Cab For Cutie (maybe 3 songs)
Day 2:
Nada Surf (1 song, wouldn't have known it was them if it hadn't been "Always Love") The Go! Team (2 songs, before I left to check my e-mail 'cause there was no other band there that was more obnoxious, that I knew of) Coheed And Cambria Wolfmother Gnarls Barkley The Dresden Dolls (at this point I left because I felt sick, but I otherwise would have seen the Flaming Lips, and Manu Chao because I could have been like the only one there that chose to watch him at the opposite end of the park over Kayne West)
Day 3:
Sparta The Burden Brothers (maybe the last 5 songs) The Benevinto-Russo Duo (couple of songs walking by) Ben Kweller (last 6 songs) 30 Seconds To Mars Matisyahu (last 3 songs) Reverend Horton Heat (about 3 songs) She Wants Revenge Queens Of The Stone Age (first half of the set; overhearing the second half) The Red Hot Chili Peppers (whatever I could get a glimpse of when I wasn't simply trying to protect myself)
