20. Relient K - Who I Am Hates Who I've Been: Started out slowly, but has recently picked up on my chart to edge into the #20 spot. Peak #60*.
19. Sanctus Real - Closer: One of four Sanctus Real songs in the top 20, this was the fourth single from Fight the Tide. Peak #66.
18. Sanctus Real - Things Like You: ...and this was the third single. Notice a pattern? Peak #67.
17. Day of Fire - Cornerstone: Came out in 2004, but I didn't hear it until the first half of this year -- too late to chart it, but it earned the Honorary #100 spot on May 6th and got sporadic play throughout the year.
16. Plumb - I Can't Do This: Coming off two top-40 hits from her previous album, this one sounded a little too similar to Evanescence for me not to notice it, but it hit the top 50 and hung around for a little while after it left. Peak #50.
15. Kutless - It's Like Me: Blasted into the top 40 in its second week in the top 100, but leveled off quickly from there. Third top 50 hit was their biggest yet. Peak #34.
14. Relient K - Be My Escape: Another quick riser into the top 50 (its third week), but it took a while before I actually liked it enough to chart. In retrospect, it might have peaked a bit too low. Peak #44.
13. Anberlin - (the symphony of) Blasé: The second Christian release off Never Take Friendship Personal is one of my least favorites on the album; that's meant as a compliment to the other songs on the album rather than a knock on this one. Peak #28.
12. Sanctus Real - Alone: Had impressive longevity, lasting 22 weeks in the top 100, and I've even listened to it a couple of times this week. Peak #40.
11. Underoath - Reinventing Your Exit: I saw the video for this song while browsing a Myspace video site a few weeks before it was announced as a single. I might have artificially charted this highly for too long; six weeks after peaking, it was at #99. Peak #27.
10. Switchfoot - This Is Your Life: A middle-of-the-road track on The Beautiful Letdown for me, I was slightly surprised by it being chosen as a single late in 2004. I didn't expect it to do well on radio, and it didn't, but it managed a few weeks in the top 20 of my chart. It freefell after radio airplay dwindled, though. Peak #15.
9. BarlowGirl - Let Go: Nearly the opposite chart run of the #10 song; started out late in the year and has risen quickly to its current peak. BG gets the edge, though. Peak: #16*.
8. Mute Math - Peculiar People: Only 7 songs that missed the top 20 managed more weeks on the chart in 2005 than this one. Peak #23.
7. Switchfoot - Stars: Coming off two huge #1 hits, Switchfoot sneaked into the top 10, but this was a bit of a relative disappointment for me. Peak #10.
6. Flyleaf - I'm So Sick: Made its way into the Alternative top 50 this week, and it's still rising on my chart. Peak #10*.
5. Sanctus Real - Everything About You: The "alternate version" of this song, played on Christian Pop stations, was winding down its run on my chart with a #26 peak -- until November. Hearing the album version gave it a whole new life, vaulting it into the top 10 at the turn of the year. Wound down by March, because I'd moved onto the next single after a 32-week chart run. Peak #8.
4. Falling Up - Exit Calypsan: A top 5 hit for what became one of my favorite Christian artists in 2005, following up the only Christian #1 hit of the year. Peak #4.
The top 3 Christian hits of the year are very close together. Mute Math's "Control" peaked at #3, but was a totally unknown artist to me before this song. Anberlin's "Paperthin Hymn" peaked at #2, but they were my favorite new artist of 2004, and were virtually guaranteed a top 10 hit on my own personal anticipation. Also, it's no better than fourth-best song on the album. Falling Up has the only #1 hit of the group with "Escalates", but its only week at #1 was unbulleted, and it didn't even spend another week in the top 3. In the end, it goes to Falling Up with 30 weeks in the top 100 and the highest inverse-point total (100-99-98-...1) of the three.
