Cold set list from earlier this week. Again, more for my own benefit. 01. Back Home 02. Sick of Man 03. Remedy 04. End of the World 05. No One 06. Suffocate 07. Confession 08. Came All the Way ? (some song I didn't recognize with guest vocals from The Killer and the Star bassist Michael Harris, who also sings for Idiot Pilot. Shiny Toy Guns set list:
1. Starts with One 2. Ghost Town 3. Le Disko 4. Rainy Monday 5. Ricochet! 6. Stripped 7. Rocket Ship 8. Don't Cry Out 9. You Are the One
I think "Stripped" was an audible, because I just so happened to see the set list when I got there and there were 10 songs. And since they went on late, they didn't have time for two of them: "Money for That" and "Shaken."

Looks like the All-American Rejects and Shiny Toy Guns are coming to Toronto on April 22, 2 days after my last final exam of my undergraduate career. I'm so there. If the Shiny Toy Guns are as great as everyone here seems to claim they are (I've only heard the 2 singles from their latest album and love them; am listening to the rest of the album as I'm typing this), I can't wait!

Well sum'bitch, I just heard about Muse opening for U2 for a few gigs in the fall, including NYC on September 24. I would totally go to that...if only I hadn't already lined up a trip to Miami that same weekend. How I can go twenty-seven years without really traveling only to be stuck having to be in two places at the same time when I finally do.
That'd be a hell of a show, though.

Chris Cornell marathon setlist. 2½-plus hours. After 25 songs, I was pretty well spent. When I thought they were done, but came back for the last three songs, I was so drained it was hard to maintain enthusiasm.
01. Part of Me 02. Time 03. No Such Thing 04. You Know My Name 05. Can't Change Me 06. Burden in My Hand 07. Pretty Noose 08. Hunger Strike 09. Preaching the End of the World 10. Gun 11. Outshined 12. Show Me How to Live 13. Ground Zero 14. Never Far Away 15. Be Yourself 16. Billie Jean 17. Gasoline 18. Rusty Cage 19. Dandelion [solo acoustic] 20. Fell on Black Days [solo acoustic] 21. Seasons 22. Thank You [Led Zeppelin cover, solo acoustic] 23. Like a Stone [solo acoustic] 24. Doesn't Remind Me
[quasi-encore; band jammed for a few minutes while Chris left the stage, returning just in the nick of time] 25. Cochise 26. Watch Out 27. Scream 28. Spoonman [drum solo breakdown gave way to several bars of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" before finishing song]
[full band encore] 29. Enemy 30. Like Suicide 31. Black Hole Sun
7 from Scream 3 from Out of Exile 3 from Carry On 4 from Audioslave 2 from Euphoria Morning 2 from Down on the Upside 4 from Superunknown 1 from the Singles soundtrack 2 from Badmotorfinger 1 from Temple of the Dog 1 from Louder Than Love 1 unrecorded cover

^Meh, it sucks for me that Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be performing where you're at, yet aren't coming anywhere near where I live. Who knows, maybe they'll have another North American leg. I'm hoping for that.

I'm hoping for that. Yeah, this set of tour dates seems very incomplete because all of the major east coast cities are absent from the list as well. Hopefully they'll be back here later in the year because I'd have to drive to Columbus, Ohio if I wanted to see them on this leg of the tour.

^Meh, it sucks for me that Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be performing where you're at, yet aren't coming anywhere near where I live. Road trip! OK, maybe not. Anyway, for my own posterity, here was As I Lay Dying's setlist: 01. Separation 02. Through Struggle 03. Nothing Left 04. Forever 05. An Ocean Between Us 06. Meaning in Tragedy 07. Empty Hearts 08. Within Destruction 09. The Sound of Truth 10. 94 Hours 11. Confined

Offspring set list: 01. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid 02. Bad Habit 03. Come Out and Play 04. Hammerhead 05. Staring at the Sun 06. Gone Away [piano version ]* 07. Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? 08. Why Don't You Get a Job? 09. Intermission** 10. Americana 11. Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) 12. (Can't Get My) Head Around You 13. All I Want 14. The Kids Aren't Alright Encore: 15. Want You Bad 16. Self Esteem * Think of it like the Band Version of Evanescence's "My Immortal." ** The track from Ixnay on the Hombre. There was a dude leading the crowd in back & forth arm waving, then an inexperienced juggler came out for a few seconds, followed by a couple of guys taking turns on a pogo stick. Not 100% sure of the order of 11-13, but otherwise it's correct. Shiny Toy Guns: 1. Starts with One 2. Le Disko 3. Richochet! 4. Ghost Town 5. Rocket Ship 6. Don't Cry Out 7. You Are the One

Shiny Toy Guns: 1. Starts with One 2. Le Disko 3. Richochet! 4. Ghost Town 5. Rocket Ship 6. Don't Cry Out 7. You Are the One Apparently they don't want the kids in the crowd to have any interest in the record that their stage lineup actually recorded. That's lame. I'm glad I decided against braving the AAR preteens and excessive ticket markup for this.

I'm seeing Tool for the first time in two months from now. Yeah, they're a headliner of Lollapalooza, so I guess they figured they've got the entire surface area of the midwest covered with that. They're otherwise not coming anywhere near me.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs set list:
01. Runaway 02. Man 03. Phenomena 04. Dull Life 05. Black Tongue 06. Kiss Kiss 07. Cheated Hearts 08. Skeletons 09. Soft Shock 10. Gold Lion 11. Zero 12. Turn Into 13. Y Control
Encore: 14. Heads Will Roll 15. Maps (acoustic) 16. Date with the Night
I crash-coursed myself with their discography in the few days leading up to the show and then when I was running short on time for additional review, I looked up their set lists from this tour and noted which songs were played and how often. Then I chose to focus on those, excluding the singles I already knew. Try as I might, during the show, it was still hard for me to recognize much before being sent inside from the hallway. Then inside, there were still getting to be too many I wasn't sure of, so I just stopped trying to keep track and looked this up online later on.
I ended up liking all three of their albums; I really like how each is so different from the next. Definitely will be downloading It's Blitz. Then once I'm completely familiar with the albums, who knows? I may want to replace them with real copies. We'll see.
I only wish I had had a better spot inside to work/watch the show from. I didn't get to watch the show as much as I was hoping to. Then again, I'm glad I was in the hallway for most of the night and spared the cigarette smoke inside for the first 3½ hours we were open.

Pretty solid set, it looked like there. They even did one from the Is Is EP. ....
VAST set list: 01. Thrown Away 02. Lift Me Up 03. Pretty When You Cry 04. Loneliness Is Fine 05. Falling from the Sky 06. You Should Have Known I'd Leave 07. I Thought By Now 08. Song without a Name (09. Some Generica song) 10. Free 11. Don't Take Your Love Away from Me 12. Lost 13. Tattoo of Your Name 14. I Don't Have Anything 15. Touched 16. Turquoise 17. Be with Me
18. Here 19. I Know How to Love
They had a keyboardist in this lineup, rather than just guitar/bass/drums & cello. Sax was used for much of "Lost" and "Don't Take" sounded like a more full-band song than the original. Very album-frontloaded: First 2 from VAST, first 5 from Nude and the first half of the Bang Band SiXXX - Relay EP. Which is far better than I initially gave it credit for, even if none of the songs quite match the top of the first four albums. (But the last-ranked song would still be solid B range for me). There was only one song performed from April in that set.
Quite a fine show; didn't know that the club usually had bands playing as late as they do. (Or I would've seen Animal Collective play across the street, whose set ended an hour and a half before VAST started). I got a VIP meet-and-greet pass, but learned I was going to have to work the next morning. Got to shake the bassist's hand & vaguely speak to him, though. He wasn't as comical as the two times I saw them last year.
I hope if any of you get the shot of seeing VAST that it's this keyboard-included lineup. Set f***ing ruled.

I went to Snow Patrol/Coldplay last night. Snow Patrol were alright. Not really my favoritest band but they were generally solid. I thought of maybe posting their set list if I could find it but that wasn't a total success. They did "Crack the Shutters" I think toward the end, also performing stuff like "Chasing Cars," "Chocolate," "Open Your Eyes" and "Shut Your Eyes." I recognized those, at the least. Coldplay set: 01. Life in Technicolor 02. Violet Hill 03. Clocks 04. In My Place 05. Yellow 06. Glass of Water 07. Cemetaries of London 08. 42 09. Fix You 10. Strawberry Swing ... 11. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face/Talk (This was when they were using synthesizers and the effects with the guitar. They used someof "Talk" on here and GPaSUYF has never sounded better) ... 12. The Hardest Part 13. Viva la Vida 14. Lost .... 15. Green Eyes (16? I don't know what was next) 17. Death Will Never Conquer (Didn't know this until getting that live CD free. Will Champion sang this lead.) 18. I'm a Believer (Yes, a cover.) .... 19. Politik 20. Lovers in Japan 21. Death and All His Friends
Encore: 22. The Scientist 23. Life in Technicolor ii
One hell of a show, really. If you see that, 9 of the "main" tracks from VLV were performed. (And six from Rush). Between "Green Eyes" and the "I'm a Believer" rendition the band played in the back center, no drumming then. I brought my sister there and paid her a ticket. She knew the bigger songs mostly. I don't think she had heard "The Scientist" until going here, but I remember she remarked liking "the second to last song." The band's first show here after like a decade or so. I would see them again so long as they have a badass set list. I only hope next time I get "Trouble."

Approximate Rancid set list from tonight:
01. Radio 02. Last One to Die 03. Journey to the End of the East Bay 04. Olympia, WA 05. Roots Radicals 06. Nihilism 07. LA River (acoustic version) 08. Salvation (Halfway through, they went right into "Bloodclot") 09. Bloodclot 10. Fall Back Down 11. The Way I Feel 12. St. Mary 13. Maxwell Murder 14. Time Bomb 15. East Bay Night 16. Ruby Soho
I have absolutely no clue what the Riverboat Gamblers played. I'll need some help from setlist.fm to remember Rise Against's set list.
*EDIT* Lucky for me, their set list has been pretty much the same every night, it looks like. Although St. Louis isn't up yet, just about any of the other ones will do fine. Thanks setlist.fm!
01. Collapse (Post-Amerika) 02. State of the Union 03. Re-Education (Through Labor) 04. Paper Wings 05. Long Forgotten Sons 06. The Good Left Undone 07. Chamber the Cartridge 08. Drones 09. The Dirt Whispered 10. Audience of One 11. Blood to Bleed 12. Savior 13. Survive 14. Blood Red, White and Blue 15. Prayer of the Refugee
Encore: 16. Everchanging 17. Hero of War 18. Dancing for Rain 19. Give It All 20. Ready to Fall
No "Like the Angel," "Swing Life Away," or "Life Less Frightening." What's up with that?
Afterward I went and caught almost all of Santigold's set, but other than some "Brooklyn Go Hard/Shove It" hybrid, "L.E.S. Artistes," and "Creator," I couldn't tell you what she played.

Jenny Lewis set list, also very predictable, based on setlist.fm dates. 01. See Fernando 02. The Charging Sky 03. You Are What You Love 04. Pretty Bird 05. Carpetbaggers 06. Bad Man's World 07. Jack Killed Mom 08. Silver Lining (I was looking forward to hearing this Rilo Kiley song, beloved to me, but she played it solo acoustic. But since they could never be bothered to stop by St. Louis in the last 2 years, this had to do and for those 3½ minutes, I didn't care at all that there wasn't a lap steel guitar, or drums.)09. Happy 10. Rise Up with Fists 11. Just Like Zeus [new song] 12. Handle with Care (Hot Traveling Wilburys remake, apparently! Appeared on her Rabbit Fur Coat album already.)13. Next Messiah Encore: 14. Acid Tongue 15. Big Wave [new song] 16. Sing a Song for Them

So Pizza Pizza here is having deals for concerts where with a promo code, you can get $11.11 tickets (+ convenience charge + facility charge + delivery charge even though I selected Will Call = $23.21 ) for various concerts. Obviously, they're far from being the best seats in the house, but these are also bands I probably wouldn't even go see if the tickets weren't so cheap. I already bought myself tickets for the Offspring show, and am considering going to see Beyoncé and the Killers (separately, of course).

I think that's the first time I've seen the Ticketmaster fees more than double the original price (but they've come pretty damn close in the past).
It's obnoxious how they lure you in with those lower prices, although at this point I just mentally multiply any original Ticketmaster price by 1.75 as soon as I see it because I know that's what they'll end up trying to charge me in the end.

Two tickets for the price of 3 is what I've always figured.
I've got Kid Rock tickets I'm trying to sell, but I must concede that watching Kid Rock play a show for his hometown in Detroit would not be the end of the world.
I also get Green Day on July 14th and Dredg on August 5th.

Warped Tour bands that I saw: The Designer Drugs (Didn't really know them but was walking around; I liked their general sound and the lead singer was sexy. Short set included a "Time Warp" remake.)Innerpartysystem P.O.S. Civet (Unfortunately from their stage, before music started, I heard some Brokencyde at the nearest stage. )The Heroine (Local band on the bill; they play some great hard rock.)Thrice Bad Religion (About half of their set or so. Greg did announce most of the songs. Off the top of my head I'm most certain of the opening of "21st Century Digital Boy" and "No Control" was in there.)I saw Less Than Jake after TDD but only got to catch like the last 3 songs that they did. And saw just a little of Shooter Jennings. I was interested, but I wanted to catch the bus and leave soon enough at that point. Sounded good, though. Anti-Flag were the first band to play when I got there; didn't get there until about 2 or so hours after the show had started. I went to the Rock Band section because there was shade and it seemed fun. I also went over at the Ernie Ball area (not stage) where I jammed on some bass & guitar. Innerpartysystem set: 1. Heart of Fire 2. (some song probably from the first EP.) 3. Obsession 4. Last Night in Brooklyn 5. Die Tonight Live Forever 6. Don't Stop Thrice's set: 01. Of Dust and Nations 02. All That's Left 03. Silhouette 04. Deadbolt 05. The Weight (Not the same as "The Weight of Glory," from the Red Sky EP. This is a new song.)06. Firebreather 07. The Artist in the Ambulance 08. Hold Fast Hope 09. All the World Is Mad 10. The Earth Will Shake

Solid show from the Offspring in Toronto on Thursday. I didn't bother seeing the openers - Frank Turner and Pennywise. Thankfully it only rained before the show and not during it (the 400 seats were not covered while the rest were). Kudos to them for knowing to say 142nd happy birthday to Canada. Setlist (from setlist.fm): 1. Stuff Is Messed Up 2. Bad Habit 3. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid 4. Come Out And Play (Keep 'Em Separated) 5. The Meaning Of Life 6. Have You Ever 7. Staring At The Sun 8. Gone Away (Piano Version) 9. Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? 10. Gotta Get Away* 11. Half-Truism 12. Intermission 13. Americana 14. All I Want 15. Why Don't You Get A Job ? 16. Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) 17. (Can't Get My) Head Around You 18. The Kids Aren't Alright Encore: 1. Hammerhead 2. Want You Bad 3. Self Esteem *Was voted by text-messaging right before the show. Definitely worth $23.21. Green Day is coming to Hamilton but not Toronto later this month. I'm tempted to go, but until I get a job soon, I don't think I should. However, I did get a $20 lawn ticket to see the Killers in September.
