What does she say about her? I did a quick search on her and all she talks about is her fashion, lol. She said something on her MySpace page once (don't know if it's still there) that her enthusiasm for music had dwindled, knowing that no artist could possibly create a better work of art than M.I.A.'s Kala CD, everyone else: thanks for trying. And that's why her pendulum had swung into the territory of 'fashion'. From that, and the picture of Maya I had seen last year (with blue hair) I was able to pinpoint exactly how M.I.A. sounds, without ever having heard a second of her music. Mega248 can attest that I was exactly right. And I don't care, because I know damn well that to her ears, there will be some other indie darling that beats Kala at some point this year. Lol. I finally found the .mp3 of "Nine In The Afternoon" that I'd been looking for for a while. Somebody posted a folder on Soulseek of the entire Billboard Hot 100, on which the song is at #95, and while I was there, I went ahead and claimed all the rest of the tracks in the Hot 100 that I was interested in hearing (or repeating). And played some of them. That, and a lot of crack. Yes.

I recall just Monday morning my station's music news/traffic girl saying the closest MCR were coming to St. Louis was KC. So just now I go and check MCR's site myself to make sure that's the closest and lo and be-f***ing-hold, there's a St. Louis date after all, now, and at my very own club. This is a place they could now sell out within a day, probably. It's about f***ing time, guys...after you presumably retired the whole Black Parade show and all, which you never brought to St. Louis after 5+ times through supporting Three Cheers. I should look on the bright side: They're finally coming through again and I (nor the ex-gf) won't have to pay a dime. Happy, happy boy. Seriously. I can't even put into further words right now how thrilled I am about this.

I guess it's because these smaller venue dates were announced so last minute to the on sale dates on purpose. Concerts are sometimes written on the dry erase calendar in the office in advance, but lately the dates just seem to be marked with a red X until it's time to officially announce them. They're officially announced and up on the website on Tuesdays, I often don't bother to check right away, and there was a 3-day non-show gap at the beginning of the week.

Again working under the assumption nobody cares, but I'm doing a much better job focusing on the board than on anything productive.
These are the upcoming concerts for which I currently have tickets: -Michael Bublé -Stars -B. B. King -Etta James & The Roots Band -Nick Lowe with Ron Sexsmith -Elvis Costello & The Imposters

Every show I'm looking forward to is not even in my city! That is the biggest burden when you don't have an actual car and use the bus as your main mode of transportation. Oh well, speaking of that I could maybe try that to get to Austin and Houston, which is where everything that's good is taking place. Thrice, Kanye's Glow in the Dark tour, and Radiohead are all happening but not where my home is. Maybe I could try to see my older sister and her husband when Radiohead comes. She'll be about five or so months pregnant when/if I see her then and it'll be the third time I'm an uncle. Interestingly, the other one beat her to the kid punch.

Interestingly, the other one beat her to the kid punch. You said, "Kid punch." EDIT: Wow. You also said "beat her." All sorts of domestic violence going on in that sentence.

Haha. I do that quite a bit and actually, there was an instance last fall when I saw the Brand New show.
When they had stopped between songs, I heard one guy shout, "Jesus Christ!," for the song to be played. My response? "That's blasphemy." One of the guys with him caught on and thought it was pretty cool, though.

M.I.A. is coming to Toronto on 6/2, so looks like I'll be seeing her again. Apparently, Ludacris is in town today and by in town, I mean he's actually performing at a club in Waterloo, Ontario, not Toronto. Why he would do that? I have no clue. He can definitely do better than coming here. With that being said, I'd probably go if I didn't have a rehearsal with my jazz band tonight.

'Cause lord knows I didn't appreciate being in one for 3 years in high school. (The mischief with my friends was more important than the actual music.) What instrument do you play?

(The mischief with my friends was more important than the actual music.) What instrument do you play? I play the keys. I regret not playing in any sort of band during high school, I think that would've been a lot of fun. I just recently started getting back into playing music, so I just joined this band in January. I just found out that OneRepublic is coming to Toronto on 5/6, so I just copped myself a ticket for that show. It's also pretty cheap too, only $23.50 plus Ticketmaster horrendous charges for general admission. Although I'm now afraid that the show will be full of teenage girls that only came because they thought Ryan Tedder is hot. Kinda like that time when I saw The All-American Rejects.

My show was groups of teenage girls, teenage girls or younger with their parents, and teen and twenty-something couples on dates. It was a surprisingly diverse audience, though, meaning it crossed racial borders a little bit and I wasn't the only one there in a punk band t-shirt and/or hardcore hoodie.
While "Apologize" got the biggest response, no doubt, I was pleasantly surprised that a significant amount of people down on the floor knew the words to most of their other songs as well.
The band threw in a couple of covers, which, while popular songs, I didn't find to be lame, obvious choices at all.

I get The Bravery in Toledo on 4/18 and then the MCR up in Detroit the very next night. I'm also down for the NIN tour that's coming through Auburn Hills in August.
Lol. s***, I love "Paper Planes" and that "Straight To Hell" sample on amplified HGH.

I got to see Thrice on Wednesday and had a blast, of course. The opening band was Pelican and they did solid stuff. They're one of those instrumental sludge bands, and it was a fairly entertaining set. It was an amusing delight when the lead guitarist was strumming with a violin, many of us laughing with 'em.
Too bad I don't care for Circa Survive's music but I'll say they are cool guys. I mean, they sell their records for $5 each at the concerts. How can I not respect that. But the band, aside Anthony and at times the guitarist, were pretty dull. And his voice gets to me, in spite that.
Thrice played a nice set that was at times like the Brand New set as far as the older material ("Kill Me Quickly" and "Deadbolt" from Illusion, as always), but one difference on that end was that they actually played "All That's Left," and pretty early in the set. They managed to do over half of Vheissu, which included the album's final three songs. The only single I haven't heard them play yet is "Image." Nine of the songs were from The Alchemy Index and they did at least two songs from each of those discs. They did nearly half of Artist and as usual, nothing from the debut. Dustin did the acoustic "Stare at the Sun" toward the end, and as usual everyone shouts for "Deadbolt" near the end of the sets. Kensrue had a sense of humor during that, imitating the crowd's shout.
As for the future shows: Okay, nix the Radiohead. Since my sister and her husband are going away for the anniversary when VAST plays, I'm just going to see them instead when they play in San Antonio once again, which is easily the safest bet for me (scheduled same day Radiohead plays in Houston, btw). I know that BTBAM is playing but I'm not up for it tonight.

I couldn't have been more glad to see VAST on Saturday (mid)night. The show was at this fairly new venue that actually was pretty cool. It was supposed to have a bunch of bands. Some of them sucked, some of them were great. I heard a New York band called Jupiter One that won't release an album for a few months and they were just fantastic. Vallejo was probably the band most people went to see; they were a fairly good band. They actually have quite a bit of English stuff and even did a cover of Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio."
However, nothing was like seeing VAST. There wasn't a bunch of people, but we all went up to the gravel during the set, which once again includes "Temptation," "Free," "Touched," "Thrown Away," and "Pretty When You Cry" as its main tracks. They frequently asked for requests and I wanted to hear "The Niles' Edge" but I don't think they had all known how to play that one, although Jon did start the guitar the right way. I was pleasantly surprised to hear "My TV and You" and "Be with Me" in the set, both awesomely done. Also, "Turquoise" was in the set on this one. For a band who released an album over six months ago it's kind of strange to have only two songs from the current record (go "Sunday I'll Be Gone;" "I'm Too Good" was there once again), while performing more of a back catalog. It ended with "Dirty Hole" and it was clear it was getting late and some admitted to forgetting how it was played, but I liked how they didn't have to take the performance too seriously. Haha, I remember Jon stating, "This is a terrible perfomance." At the end of the show, I felt like I knew the whole audience and the lead guitarist told me he remembered me from the January show, which was pretty cool. I saw Michael, the bassist, around earlier in the show when some listless band was playing. He usually had a good sense of humor and, alongside Jon, would talk to the audience during the set as well. This almost made VAST fandom seem like a spiritual experience for me.

The OneRepublic concert I was supposed to go last week got rescheduled two days before the date, to June 10, ugh. Now I won't be able to go. Wednesday, I went to see the Glow In The Dark tour at the Molson Amphitheatre. Being an outdoor venue, the weather was terrible that day. It was windy, cold and raining. Thankfully, I was in the Level 200 section and was covered. They were being extremely anal with cameras. They searched everyone and made everyone who brought cameras to check it in, which turned out to be a terrible system because after the concert was over, there were hundreds of people waiting to get their camera while only 4 people were serving them! Lupe Fiasco opened the show, he was pretty solid, although it was disappointing that his set only had 4 songs: "Hip Hop Saved My Life", "Kick, Push", "Paris, Tokyo", "Superstar." N*E*R*D was next, they only did "She Wants To Move" from their second album, a bunch of songs from their debut and 3 songs from their new album. Their new album sounds very promising, I'm definitely copping that the first day it comes out. Pharrell really should just stick to singing because you can barely hear him when he tries to rap. It was nice to see Shay having more significant rap verses though. They really got the crowd going and even had a drum-off with their two drummers. When they were performing "Spaze" from their new album, they had a dancer doing some crazy b-boy moves on stage, when the camera focused on his face, it turned out to be none other than Chris Brown! Then came Rihanna, who actually wasn't too bad. She didn't lip-sync, but she lacked stage presence. She barely danced and she looked kinda nervous from the fact that she was barely looking at the audience the entire time. She did almost all of her singles plus "Breakin' Dishes", although I was surprised that she didn't sing "Take A Bow", which I guess was a good thing. The best part about her performance was her doing brief covers of Beenie Man's "Who Am I?", Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" and M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes"(!!!). Finally, it was Kanye's turn to shine and his set was just phenomenal. It was much different from the last time I saw him, let alone other typical hip-hop concerts. On stage, was just him, a huge background screen and some props. His band was hid backstage and we didn't see them until the very end on the screens when he introduced them. His whole set had like a theme or a storyline. It was very interesting and there were barely breaks in between. He only talked directly to the audience at the very end, and that's when he talked all his s***, lol. He also sounded pretty good on stage, he actually has a pretty decent singing voice, although they actually used a live vocoder on his voice for songs like "Good Life". I was disappointed that there was no encore, maybe because the show was running pretty late, and it was a weeknight. So yes, it was definitely worth the money (and for me, the trouble to get to Toronto despite not having a car)!

Gosh, it pisses me off, the way the music scene works where I live. Predominantly, only underground metal, hip-hop, country, poopular hard-rock and pop exist. Everything else is chopped liver, although I might be going to see NIN on the date scheduled next month.
But if I want to go my way to see the Black Keys, Shiny Toy Guns, Weezer, Thrice and TVOTR I must take the distance, although at least I wouldn't have to go to Houston or Dallas for these. But I don't know if I'd want to make the trip quite that often, in spite the bus not being all that bad on the way there.

Likewise, a friend of mine told me she'd been waiting to see TOAD which happened tonight. On the other hand I saw TVOTR tonight. Dirtbombs were alright. But the event was really TVOTR. They started with "Young Liars" which I didn't recognize (until hearing the chorus) because I only just now have gotten the EP. I was glad to hear "The Wrong Way" which came next in the set, my favorite from Desperate Youth. "Staring at the Sun" closed the set of course. They managed to last about an hour and a half even with a 15-song set. One highlight was during "Golden Age," where Katrina Ford (of Celebration, who's appeared with TVOTR quite often) joins and uses a lot of presence, alongside the fact that David Sitek dressed up as a ginger bread man during that performance. . They did my favorite 3 Return songs, too: "WLM," "Blues from Down Here" and "A Method." Bad-ass! Six songs were done both from RTCM (also "Province," "Dirtywhirl" and "Let the Devil In") and the new album ("DC" of course, as well as "Halfway Home," "Stork & Owl," "Shout Me Out" & "DLZ"). It's probably the last thing I'll see for a little while.

Here's one I won't be going to: WKQX's "Twisted XV".The 3-night series kicks off with possibly the worst rock lineup ever assembled: * Theory of a Deadman * Saliva * and Hollywood Undead. Not far off is the Jagermeister tour, which, thankfully, is skipping my venue. I might've had to ask off that night, I don't know: Hinder, Theory of a Deadman, Trapt, and Rev Theory. Blecch.

(I was only able to remember Metallica's order by typing in the song titles as new contacts into my phone.)

Setlist from dredg's 11/14 show l l l (spoiler space for those whose show has yet to come...) l l l 1. Same Ol' Road 2. The Tanbark is Hot Lava 3. Of the Room 4. Brushstroke: New Heart Shadow 5. Ode to the Sun 6. Planting Seeds 7. [new song] 8. [new song] 9. Triangle (w/ Judgement Day) 10. Brushstroke: Walk in the Park (w/ Judgement Day) 11. 18 People Live in Harmony (w/ Judgement Day) 12. Jamais Vu (w/ Judgement Day) 13. Sang Real (w/ Judgement Day) 14. Bug Eyes 15. The Canyon Behind Her I was as close to the front as I've ever been at a show, which also meant when the idiot who felt the need to march through an unmanned security pit, climb onto the stage, and dive into the crowd, it was up to me and a bunch of girls around me to keep him off the ground (so basically, it was up to me). I put my elbow up in the air to protect myself. I'm not putting my body in harm's way for some fool that wants to stage dive at a f***ing dredg concert. Go see Metallica if you want to do that s***, not some latte-metal show like dredg. I probably got the worst of it because my glasses were a little bent up, and when I turned around, the idiot was not laying on the ground injured like he deserved. Other than that though, it kicked ass. They finally revealed the new album to be out March 24th, .

Setlist from dredg's 11/14 show (spoiler space for those whose show has yet to come...) I went ahead and looked at the list, because I had no clue about what songs to expect when I go and how many songs from Leitmotif, which I've never heard, to expect. I plan on finding Leitmotif to download and listen to sometime tomorrow, but seeing as they played nothing from that album, I won't worry a whole lot about familiarizing myself with the songs before I go.
