Okay, so I fell short of my own promises.
What I got in the past week: Depeche Mode - 101 my bloody valentine - loveless (used) R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi (I liked the files I got so much that $6 was good enough for me.) Wyclef Jean featuring Bono - "New Day" single
Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree (For that same Mastercard sale friday mentioned.) OutKast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik Thrice - If Only We Could See Us Now (CD/DVD)
And since I like Vheissu so much, I even got the limited edition, although not really worth it if you already have it standard.
And got this on cassette for half a dollar: Prince - 1999 Prince - Sign 'o' the Times

I finally caved in and started buying CDs again. I looked at my CD rack and saw a lot of really, really, old stuff. Despite iTunes, soulseek, the library, and all that, I decided I need to make my CD rack somewhat representative of my current tastes. Plus it seems you can get just about any CD for under $10 with the right timing: Circuit City always has their $9.99 Labor Day and Memorial Day sales, Target has extended sales, and you can find good deals at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Here's what I got the past few weeks:
Air - Pocket Symphony Bloc Party - A Weekend in the City Erasure - Light at the End of the World Feist - The Reminder Peter Bjorn & John - Writers Block (2CD) Rocco DeLuca & the Burden - I Trust You to Kill Me Teddybears - Soft Machine

I just heard that Teddybears song this week. Or rather, I'd been hearing it for a while now (on commercials for Heineken), I just didn't know what it was. But I was disappointed to find out it was the one with the "bawitdaba" chorus. When I heard it on the commercial, I thought it was specially written for Heineken, brainstormed by out-of-touch fifty-something ad execs who thought using "bawitdaba" would be "hip".
All that said, the song is not that bad, it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Kid Rock said he took that sequence from something else. And if it's not the approximation in "Rapper's Delight," I can't find the source. In brief, Kid Rock didn't invent that gibberish himself.

That one sounds badwitdaba-ish and is mildly annoying. It sounds like it samples "Good Things" by the Fine Young Cannibals. "Punkrocker" is much better.

Looks like the only CD's I've purchased since April are: The Used - Lies For The Liars Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Doesn't appear to be too much on the new release horizon either, especially now with HIM's record being pushed back into September.
My sister got me Gogol Bordello's Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony for my birthday; I'd never heard of them but she likened them to a Slavic version of SOAD with an accordionist. I think SOAD even uses an accordion on "Radio/Video" themselves. Anyway, I listened to a few tracks and determined that they're insane. I like it.

True, but Kid Rock used that sequence and it springboarded him into the spotlight where he went on to sell millions of records and lower the collective IQ of the planet by a couple points. We don't need to dance around letting him off the hook for anything.

We don't need to dance around letting him off the hook for anything. Good counterpoint. By the way, where did you get your QOTSA from? Anyway, it looks like since my last post, the stuff I've gotten for the most part is albums from you guys. The Beavis and Butt-head Experience (not worth anything to the store, but I gave the guy $1 for it, to replace my burned copy.)Prince - (symbol) ($1; its worth to the store.)Darude - Before the Storm (I wasn't working when we bought this back (grr), but it's the first time I've ever come across a used copy of this, so I went ahead and paid $6.99 for it. So now I finally have it.)These I burned, of course: Chevelle - Vena Sera Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV - Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness Destiny's Child - #1's Enigma - Love Sensuality Devotion: The Greatest Hits The Game - The Documentary The Game - Doctor's Advocate The Germs - (MIA): The Complete Anthology Hawthorne Heights - If Only You Were Lonely Kenna - New Sacred Cow Lovage - Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By M.I.A. - Arular Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank Muse - Showbiz Muse - Origin of Symmetry New Order - Get Ready Peeping Tom Sade - Love Deluxe Staind - Chapter V Thrice - Identity Crisis Thrice - The Illusion of Safety The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground - Loaded VNV Nation - Futureperfect "Weird Al" Yankovic - Greatest Hits "Weird Al" Yankovic - Greatest Hits Volume II Nick xxxxxx - Nick xxxxxx presents xxxxxfest (compilation I edited together of all my time on the air.)

Berlin - Pleasure Victim (I just want to see if it really says "b.j.s by Terri Nunn") I've been torturing myself trying to find Spring Session M by Missing Persons somewhere, but amazingly, a clerk at FYE told me the album's out of print. I know the album's 25 years old, but it's not like these guys were some obscure act that never made an impact; I mean, at the time, these guys were considered the face of new wave music. I considered getting it from iTunes, but, for some reason, it doesn't come with the two bonus tracks the physical album has. The only place that seems to have it is Amazon.com. Incredibly, however, the lowest price being offered for it is $47.99. Forty-seven ninety-nine?!?! WT-f***in'-F! And mind you, this isn't some super-enhanced version with 100 bonus tracks or Dale Bozzio personally coming to your house to sing every song. This is a regular CD with 12 songs and two bonus tracks. And people say Wal-Mart is bad.

I didn't think demand for a Missing Persons CD could warrant that cost, but I wasn't musically aware during their heyday, being just a baby/toddler at the time. Operation Ivy's Energy is out of print now (being re-issued this fall) and fetches a $37.41 price on Amazon. $4 more than when I last looked. On the other hand, the 2-disc compilation Chicken Fried Country (previously only available through a TV ad), which I've wanted since 2001 when it came out, used to be outrageously priced, because there was only one seller. It was like $75 or something crazy like that. I just looked again and now there are two sellers, both competing at $19.99. I wish I could remember which one was first, because I'd buy it from the new guy. I'll probably jump on that in the next day or two.

^And I'd get Porcupine Tree's Lighbulb Sun album from there if the only seller there didn't offer it for SIXTY bucks. I know I'll have to wait to find something better. (Oh, and I'm ripping the files. It won't be too long 'til I send 'em I promise.)
Actually, I've been slowing things down considerably lately because of an apartment that I just moved into.
I did get a few things along the way however: A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step (used, replacing the stolen copy.) Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen (used) Rise Against - Siren Song of the Counter-Culture (I'm trying to get the last three CD's eventually, and have 2 more to go. Since the new one's at such a nice price, I may get to that when I have the time.)
post script: I have the "New Day" single up right now.

Nick, your requests will probably be up by the time you read this since they're uploading now. Today I expanded my stash to include: Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper AnchorA.F.I. - Black Sails In The SunsetMuse - Hullabaloo Soundtrack (replacing my downloaded copy) Atreyu and AFI reduced my Circuit City gift card balance down to $0.47. The Muse was the $20 import from Best Buy that I bitched about earlier. I just had a friend get it for my birthday 3 months late so that I wouldn't be the one to worry about paying for it. .

Labor Day sales rule I've noticed.
I borrowed a copy of Isis's In the Absence of Truth and loved it so much that I bought that one with the rest of my Borders card.
These were all used, 30% off: Beck - Sea Change (finally!) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (likewise) Garbage - "Only Happy When It Rains" single Garbage - "Push It" single Garbage - "Androgyny" single Garbage - "Why Do You Love Me" single.
The Garbage singles were all 3 bucks without the discount.

Garbage - "Only Happy When It Rains" single Garbage - "Push It" single Garbage - "Androgyny" single Garbage - "Why Do You Love Me" single. So I assume "Girl Don't Come" and "Sleep" are the OHWIR B-sides and that "Thirteen" and the Boom Boom Satellites remix are the B-sides for PI. (Unless it's the import you got, in which case, swap "Lick the Pavement" for "Thirteen.") But what are the "Androgyny" and "Why Don't You Love Me" B-sides, and could I have them please? (I just reminded myself of Homer Simpson: "I have two questions: 'How much?' and 'Give it to me.'")
