Okay, the first couple times I wasn't really warm on this, but now I love it. I've been listening to this one on my way to work recently. Another fairly hopeful and spiritual release from the group.
I wouldn't be surprised if "Crazy Tonight" becomes a single. That's a crossover hit waiting to happen. I could see them maybe going four-deep on this one.
There's a few songs short of an album-ranker familiarization. I'll possibly not end up liking it as much as Achtung or War (or possibly Joshua Tree, either) but I am sure that I liked it better than October and perhaps The Unforgettable Fire even before "getting" it. But by now I'd also put it above Pop and even Boy and ATYCLB. It's right on par with the two I didn't mention, so far.
I'm not sure if it's because the album is top-heavy, or if I didn't shuffle it enough and those just ended up being the songs I heard more anyway, but I've finally familiarized myself with all of the album.
It's very solid. There's not one weak song on it. I still prefer How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, but it lands somewhere among Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind, which I think I prefer as my next two favorites.
With even "Magnificent" stalling early on, I have no idea what a single strategy might be to continue successful promotion of this album.
