NICK’S TOP 200 SONGS OF 1994
(Extended and Remastered)
February 20, 2009
01. Prince “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World”
(To this day, still my favorite Prince song. I was blown away by how good this song was. I bought the cassette single and got The Beautiful Experience for my birthday, not knowing that it was the just the song plus 6 remixes of it. I was swindled again when I bought The Gold Experience, expecting the version of this song to be the same one, when it was slightly different. But I've got the mp3 now, so I'm in business.
02. Aerosmith “Crazy”
(What's this? Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in a video together? And they ditch Catholic school to (among other things) dance at a strip club and later strip down and go skinny-dipping? Drool...drool... )
03. Boyz II Men “I’ll Make Love to You”
04. Janet Jackson “Any Time, Any Place (R. Kelly Mix)”
(Astronomically better, and sexier, than the janet. version. Bought the CD single for it. And, uh, for the picture on the front of it.)
05. Salt-N-Pepa “Shoop” (1993: #27)
06. Janet Jackson “If” (1993: #1)
07. Nirvana “Heart-Shaped Box” (1993: #77)
08. Def Leppard “Miss You in a Heartbeat” (1993: #100)
09. Mariah Carey “Without You”
(Hot Badfinger, as made famous by Harry Nilsson, remake! Her first 10 songs go to #1 on Pop radio and then this cruelly gets stuck at #2 for 3-4 weeks. )
10. Snoop Doggy Dogg “Gin and Juice”
11. Mariah Carey “Hero” (1993: #30)
12. Beck “Loser”
13. The Offspring “Come Out and Play”
14. Pearl Jam “Daughter” (1993: #87)
15. Alice in Chains “No Excuses”
16. Tevin Campbell “Can We Talk” (1993: #13)
17. Green Day “Longview”
18. Toni Braxton “You Mean the World to Me”
19. Stone Temple Pilots “Big Empty”
20. Janet Jackson “Because of Love”
(This was the single when I finally worked up the courage to buy janet. and just pay for it before my mom was done shopping. (The picture on the back of Janet's bare stomach and unbuttoned jeans fly would've been sharply disapproved of, surely resulting in closer-monitored music purchases). I wanted that album so bad. I think it was the first of several I had to scheme to buy, still being 12 years old.)
21. Ace of Base “Don’t Turn Around”
22. Stone Temple Pilots “Vasoline”
23. R. Kelly “Bump n’ Grind”
24. Haddaway “Life (Everybody Needs Somebody to Love)”
(Always preferred this one to "What Is Love.")
25. Nine Inch Nails “Closer”
(My brother's copied cassette of The Downward Spiral was the first album with a parental advisory sticker on it that I ever listened to. And it's interesting that this was the first album of that variety, because the music is so much more dark and sinister than anything I'd heard by that point, that it just feels taboo, like it's something I shouldn't have been listening to. I always played it on my walkman, I was that nervous about my parents hearing the bad language on it. It's so funny that those little stickers are that big of a deal when you're just becoming a teenager, in fear of your parents discovering how filthy today's music really is and that they would closely monitor what you're listening to if they ever found out. Whereas today, I'm not even consciously aware of the parental advisory logo on music I buy and haven't been for over 10 years now.)
26. Beastie Boys “Sabotage”
27. Gin Blossoms “Found Out About You” (1993: #68)
28. Coolio “Fantastic Voyage”
(I loved the music video for this. Coolio's sleeping on his porch and his rotary phone (which he has outside for some reason) wakes him up.
Coolio: Who dis?
Friend: Yo, Spoon, let's go up to the beach, man, and catch some females. Have a barbecue.
Coolio: How we gon' get there? [yells directly into receiver] We ain't got no car! [slams phone down] Fool!...
At the end of the video, after the '64 Chevy convertible in the driveway turns back into the upside down bicycle with one wheel, Coolio is awakened by the phone again.
Coolio: Yo.
Friend: Coolio, man, why you hang up on me? Anyway, what's up with the beach? Let's go to the beach, man!
Coolio: Man, we ain't got no ride...Quit callin' me!
Friend: But wait a minute. Wait a minute!...Coolio!...
Coolio: [hangs up the phone] Fool...)
29. Madonna “I’ll Remember”
30. Red Hot Chili Peppers “Soul to Squeeze” (1993: #7)
31. Aerosmith “Amazing” (1993: #64)
32. Janet Jackson “Again” (1993: #39)
33. Toni Braxton “Another Sad Love Song” (1993: #15)
34. Domino “Getto Jam”
35. Elton John “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”
36. Soundgarden “Black Hole Sun”
37. Madonna “Secret”
(Great to see Madonna back with longer blonde hair. Y'know, at least longer than it was from "Fever" through "I'll Remember.")
38. Aerosmith “Cryin’” (1993: #38)
39. Prince: 1958-1993 “Letitgo”
(Thought this was a very underrated Prince song. And this was the only time his name was billed like a gravestone, the idea being that Prince died in 1993 and the "love symbol" continued on. The black & white photo for the cover of the Come album, with him pointing a cane at the camera as he stands before the gates of a lavish church at nighttime was fascinating.)
40. Bobby Brown & Whitney Houston “Something in Common” (1993: #36)
(Recently thought to track down the remix of this song (from his second remix album ) that was actually the single/video version.
41. Crystal Waters “100% Pure Love”
(Had no idea for several years that she had a similarly sized hit 3 years before.)
42. Jon Secada “If You Go”
(End of the video, if not the whole thing, parodies The Graduate, which I still haven't seen. )
43. Smashing Pumpkins “Today”
44. Beastie Boys “Sure Shot”
(Loved this song! Instantly, and to this day my favorite Beastie Boys song. The only Beastie Boys song I ever went out of my way to memorize the lyrics for.)
45. Collective Soul “Shine”
46. Nirvana “All Apologies”
47. Snoop Doggy Dogg “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” (1993: #26)
48. Stone Temple Pilots “Creep” (1993: #101)
49. All-4-One “I Swear”
(Hot John Michael Montgomery remake! )
50. John Mellencamp featuring Me’Shell Ndegéocello “Wild Night”
(Hot Van Morrison remake! Did anybody else ever notice that at the very beginning of the video when the hot cab driver is getting dressed and pulls her white t-shirt down, they briefly had to blur out one of her nipples, because she doesn't put on a bra? It's like, why bother to even include that shot, when it's just a quick frame you know is going to get censored before being put on TV anyway?)
51. Snoop Doggy Dogg featuring Tha Dogg Pound & The Dramatics “Doggy Dogg World”
(I remember reading in an issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids that this was Tyrone Bogues' favorite song and thinking how badass that was. )
52. Erasure “Always”
53. Aerosmith “Intro/Eat the Rich”
54. R.E.M. “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?”
55. Crash Test Dummies “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”
(When I first heard this song on Joel Denver's Future Hits, I thought he was talking about Vince and Larry from those "Buckle Your Safety Belt" commercials. And I remember that I didn't think those characters were still popular enough to try being a novelty recording act. Until I saw the video, I was very confused.)
56. Ace of Base “The Sign”
(Never thought this was as good as "All That She Wants" or "Don't Turn Around.")
57. Meat Puppets “Backwater”
58. U2 “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)”
(The Zooropa singles were totally underrated.)
59. Cracker “Low”
60. Meat Loaf “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through”
61. Toad the Wet Sprocket “Fall Down”
(I thought the dance marathon music video was very clever.)
62. Culture Beat “Mr. Vain”
(Didn't like this song until '94, I don't think, and for years, the lyrics didn't make any sense to me. I'm still not sure what "Mr. Raider" is supposed to mean and I didn't understand that Tania flipped the gender right before the chorus by quickly singing, "He'd say." I never understood what she was saying there.)
63. Janet Jackson “You Want This”
(Video version featured a rap by MC Lyte. Bummed that the video was in black & white, but then they quickly colorized it, so I was happy.)
64. The Offspring “Self Esteem”
65. Tony! Toni! Toné! “Anniversary” (1993: #44)
66. Lenny Kravitz “Are You Gonna Go My Way” (1993: #85)
67. Smashing Pumpkins “Disarm”
68. Nirvana “Rape Me”
(I still remember Walmart having a problem with the fetuses on the back of the case and how Nirvana had to remove them and change this song title to "Waif Me" in order for the store to stock it.)
69. The Cranberries “Zombie”
(Amazed that the Cranberries could rock so hard. I remember making a point to buy an "Alternative Rock" album that day and this ended up being the one. I admit I was disappointed when everything else was as light as "Dreams" and "Linger." Still, I remember this decisive genre purchase being yet another turning point that shaped my musical tastes today.)
70. Mariah Carey “Anytime You Need a Friend”
(Notably weaker than her previous singles I'd been around for. Also disappointed that the video was black & white and that she had straightened her hair.)
71. Salt-N-Pepa featuring En Vogue “Whatta Man”
72. Stone Temple Pilots “Still Remains”
(Hot album cut! My brother had bought Purple the week it came out, if I'm not mistaken.)
73. Ace of Base “Living in Danger”
(I always felt this one kind of underperformed. The mood of the song fit the title very well.)
74. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” (1993: #123)
75. Nirvana “Serve the Servants”
(Hot album cut! Kurt's death made me more open minded to Nirvana's more dissonant music. When I asked my brother if I could listen to his copy during a family car trip, he attempted to warn me that I might not like it, as it wasn't as ear-friendly as Nevermind. I insisted and the listen went down so much smoother than if Kurt hadn't died. This was one of many key events that shaped my musical taste.)
76. Nirvana “Lounge Act”
(Hot album cut!)
77. Janet Jackson “Any Time, Any Place”
(The video was incredibly sexy. I didn't dare watch it with a parent in the room.)
78. Aaliyah “Back & Forth”
79. Janet Jackson “This Time”
(Hot album cut!)
80. Boyz II Men “On Bended Knee”
81. Lenny Kravitz “Believe” (1993: #81)
82. Toad the Wet Sprocket “Something’s Always Wrong”
(I liked how the video was a fake Home Shopping Network segment.)
83. Green Day “Basket Case”
(The video/song that really made me sit up and take notice of them.)
84. Seal “Prayer for the Dying”
85. The Cranberries “Linger” (1993: #76)
(This song really got screwed by the '93/'94 division.)
86. Candlebox “You”
(I actually prefer the radio edit over the swearing in the album version.)
87. Bryan Adams “Please Forgive Me” (1993: #70)
88. Ace of Base “All That She Wants” (1993: #46)
89. Us3 “Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)”
90. Haddaway “What Is Love” (1993: #51)
91. Guns N’ Roses “Estranged”
(Aside from "November Rain" in '92, I hated every GNR song until this one came along at the end of '93. Slash's guitar line at the beginning of the choruses was so badass. What an epic video, too.)
92. 10,000 Maniacs “Because the Night” (1993: #71)
93. Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey “Endless Love”
(Hot Diana Ross & Lionel Richie remake! )
94. Real McCoy “Another Night”
95. Aaron Hall “I Miss You”
(Such a heartbreaking music video. )
96. Rolling Stones “Love Is Strong”
(The first Rolling Stones song I ever heard.)
97. M People “Moving on Up”
98. Mazzy Star “Fade Into You”
(What a lovely song.)
99. Color Me Badd “Choose”
100. Bon Jovi “Always”
(Keri Russell was so hot in this video.)
101. Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Sting “All for Love”
102. Nirvana “Pennyroyal Tea”
(Hot album cut!)
103. Ice Cube “You Know How We Do It”
104. Blur “Girls & Boys”
105. Janet Jackson “Throb”
(Hot album cut!)
106. U2 “Lemon” (1993: #133)
107. Changing Faces “Stroke You Up”
108. Veruca Salt “Seether”
(I distintly remember buying a cheap copy of American Thighs on the very last day of 1994.)
109. Warren G featuring Nate Dogg “Regulate”
(#1 on my Pop station's evening countdown on my birthday. A friend and I did this song for karaoke at our senior year party six years later. Unfortunately, it was the version that faded out halfway through. So, as Nate Dogg, I didn't get to sing "And if yo' ass is a busta, 213 will regulate." )
110. Sheryl Crow “All I Wanna Do”
(I called bulls*** on this song truncating the 4-week #1 reign of "I'll Make Love to You" and going on to last for 6 weeks.)
111. Nirvana “Dumb”
112. Green Day “Welcome to Paradise”
(Was incredibly bummed at the time that this never got a music video.)
113. Nirvana “About a Girl (Unplugged)”
114. Gin Blossoms “Until I Fall Away”
115. Snoop Doggy Dogg “Murder Was the Case (Remix)”
116. Tom Petty “You Don’t Know How It Feels”
(Video was pretty cool, even if MTV/VH1 reversed the word "joint" in the song.)
117. Sarah McLachlan “Possession”
(Though this wasn't a huge smash on VH1, I was very impressed.)
118. Elton John “Circle of Life”
119. The Breeders “Cannonball”
120. Counting Crows “Round Here”
121. Eternal “Stay”
122. Rolling Stones “Out of Tears”
(A very fine, underrated ballad.)
123. Candlebox “Far Behind”
(Never did see what the huge fuss was about this one.)
124. The Cranberries “Dreams”
(Like it way more now than I did that year.)
125. Stone Temple Pilots “Wicked Garden” (1993: #110)
126. Sting “When We Dance”
(Another lovely, underrated ballad.)
127. Bonnie Raitt “Love Sneakin’ Up on You”
(One of my dad's favorite artists.)
128. John Mellencamp “Dance Naked”
(Thought this was a charming little song.)
129. Live “Selling the Drama”
(Amazing that my first impression of Ed was from this video, where he had long, wavy hair underneath a backward ballcap and wore glasses. And then the "I Alone" video changed his appearance forever.)
130. R.E.M. “Bang and Blame”
131. Green Day “When I Come Around”
(I remember MTV was champing at the bit so hard for a new Green Day video that as soon as this song went to radio, they threw its Woodstock '94 performance on the air to tide them over.)
132. Gin Blossoms “Allison Road”
133. “Weird Al” Yankovic “Headline News”
(Hot "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" parody! Video was so funny.)
134. Toni Braxton “Breathe Again” (1993: #140)
135. Urge Overkill “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon”
(Hot Neil Diamond remake! )
136. The Murmurs “You Suck”
(A fantastic little acoustic song by these two girls and unfortunate one-hit wonders. God, the mid-'90's were so awesome for music.)
137. Nirvana “Scentless Apprentice”
(Hot album cut!)
138. Live “I Alone”
(I remember when Beavis and Butt-head watched this video, they imagined there being a little shirtless Ed doll that would yell at you if you pulled the string (Ed's unfortunate braided remnant of his long hair) on the back of his head. Oh, and they speculated that the drummer forgot to bring his drums to the video shoot so he was "just gonna have to wander around in the back like a dumbass." )
139. U2 “All I Want Is You”
(Totally weird that this Rattle & Hum song was resurrected for the Reality Bites soundtrack and that it stuck around on the bottom of the Pop chart for a very long time. I never heard it other than on Casey's Top 40.)
140. Warren G “Do You See”
(Thought this was a better single than "This DJ.")
141. TLC “Creep”
142. Lucas “Lucas with the Lid Off”
A few years before this song, he apparently toured at my brother's junior high school. Looking at Wikipedia, he co-wrote the Pussycat Dolls current single, "I Hate This Part" and his dad founded Pottery Barn. )
143. Celine Dion “The Power of Love” (1993: #122)
144. Nirvana “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle”
(Hot album cut!)
145. Smashing Pumpkins “Rocket”
(Video for this was real cool. Underrated single.)
146. Stone Temple Pilots “Interstate Love Song”
147. Ce Ce Peniston “I’m in the Mood”
148. Spin Doctors “You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast”
(Their last Top 40 hit.)
149. Weezer “Undone - The Sweater Song”
150. Blind Melon “Tones of Home”
(Video showed the bee girl finding her old costume in a trunk one day and reliving her memories of it.)
151. Blind Melon “No Rain” (1993: #45)
152. Bruce Springsteen “Streets of Philadelphia”
(My brother and I always made fun of how Bruce mumbled his way through this song and how it was startling to see his head appear in the moving frame of the video at the beginning of the first verse.)
153. Babyface “And Our Feelings”
(Honestly, I barely even remember this song anymore; it's been so long since I heard it. Basing its placement on my chart stats.)
154. Counting Crows “Mr. Jones”
(Never really saw what the big deal was with this song.)
155. Frenté! “Bizarre Love Triangle”
(Hot New Order remake! Hadn't even heard New Order's version at this point.)
156. Heart “Will You Be There (In the Morning)”
157. The Brand New Heavies “Dream on Dreamer”
158. Soundgarden “Spoonman”
159. Meat Loaf “Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are”
(Haven't heard this one in forever.)
160. Richard Marx “Now and Forever”
161. Pearl Jam “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”
162. Morrissey “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get”
163. Dr. Dre “Let Me Ride” (1993: #62)
164. Enigma “Return to Innocence”
(Like it a lot more now.)
165. Roxette “Sleeping in My Car”
(Barely remember this one.)
166. Alice in Chains “I Stay Away”
(The video for this was sad. Even if it was all claymation. )
167. Cracker “Get Off This”
(I remember the little animated smoking dog from the video and when he got pissed off for some reason.)
168. Cypress Hill “Insane in the Brain”
(Didn't like this song for a long time, which is why it didn't chart for '93.)
169. Toni Braxton “Seven Whole Days”
(Saw the video on The Box, when I was visiting an old friend one day. My family had moved and we had MTV (cable) by this point. Anyway, this wasn't a domestic single, but was a hit on the R&B chart.)
170. Michael Bolton “Said I Loved You…But I Lied” (1993: #127)
171. Guns N’ Roses “Since I Don’t Have You”
(Hot Skyliners remake! )
172. K7 “Come Baby Come” (1993: #168)
173. Whitney Houston “Queen of the Night”
174. Tevin Campbell “I’m Ready”
(Didn't like this one near as much as "Can We Talk.")
175. Billy Joel “All About Soul” (1993: #94)
176. Amy Grant “The Lucky One”
(Didn't like this near as much as her Heart in Motion singles.)
177. Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas Is You”
(Mariah has never looked sexier than on the cover of her Merry Christmas album in her feminine Santa suit.)
178. Cher with Beavis and Butt-head “I Got You Babe” (1993: #141)
179. All-4-One “So Much in Love”
(Hot Tymes remake! )
180. Domino “Sweet Potatoe [sic] Pie”
181. Def Leppard “Two Steps Behind” (1993: #35)
182. Nirvana “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter”
(Hot album cut!)
183. Toni Braxton “How Many Ways”
184. House of Pain “On Point”
185. Nirvana “Milk It”
(Hot album cut!)
186. The B.C.-52’s “(Meet) the Flintstones”
(Hot Hoyt Curtin remake! )
187. Collective Soul “Breathe”
188. Coolio “I Remember”
(At the beginning of the video, Coolio and his friends take the FNTX VYG license plate from the previous video to the swap meet, where the attendant is having a conversation with a ventriloquist's dummy.
Coolio: 'Ey yo, homey. How much you give me for dis?
Guy: This right here? This ain't worth nothin', man. But uh...I will give you one of those radios.)
189. Cause & Effect “It’s Over Now”
(I so under-appreciated this song at the time.)
190. Jimmy Cliff “I Can See Clearly Now”
(Hot Johnny Nash remake! )
191. Aerosmith “Blind Man”
(I think I've sang the praises of this video before. Specifically the part where the sexy nurse (Is that Pam Anderson??) gives the bodycast-ed teenage boy a sponge bath (just his junk?) and flirtatiously scratches his nose. And then the kid's head explodes into a shower of confetti. That's good stuff. I think the other time I was describing how I felt like that once.)
192. Public Enemy “Give It Up”
(The part about the video I remember best is when Chuck D opens up the White House, takes out a claymation Bill Clinton and casually tosses him over his shoulder. You could never get away with that on MTV today. I don't care who the President is. :
193. Babyface “When Can I See You”
(Never saw the huge deal with this song, either.)
194. Salt-N-Pepa “None of Your Business”
195. Ice Cube featuring George Clinton “Bop Gun (One Nation)”
196. Sophie B. Hawkins “Right Beside You”
197. Liz Phair “Super-nova”
198. Gabrielle “Dreams” (1993: #191)
199. A Lighter Shade of Brown “Hey DJ”
200. R. Kelly “Your Body’s Callin’ ”
(The female lead in this beach video was pretty fetching, as I recall.)

03. Boyz II Men “I’ll Make Love to You”

102. Nirvana “Pennyroyal Tea”
(Hot album cut!)
103. Ice Cube “You Know How We Do It”
104. Blur “Girls & Boys”
105. Janet Jackson “Throb”
(Hot album cut!)
106. U2 “Lemon” (1993: #133)
107. Changing Faces “Stroke You Up”
108. Veruca Salt “Seether”
(I distintly remember buying a cheap copy of American Thighs on the very last day of 1994.)
109. Warren G featuring Nate Dogg “Regulate”
(#1 on my Pop station's evening countdown on my birthday. A friend and I did this song for karaoke at our senior year party six years later. Unfortunately, it was the version that faded out halfway through. So, as Nate Dogg, I didn't get to sing "And if yo' ass is a busta, 213 will regulate." )
110. Sheryl Crow “All I Wanna Do”
(I called bulls*** on this song truncating the 4-week #1 reign of "I'll Make Love to You" and going on to last for 6 weeks.)
111. Nirvana “Dumb”
112. Green Day “Welcome to Paradise”
(Was incredibly bummed at the time that this never got a music video.)
113. Nirvana “About a Girl (Unplugged)”
114. Gin Blossoms “Until I Fall Away”
115. Snoop Doggy Dogg “Murder Was the Case (Remix)”
116. Tom Petty “You Don’t Know How It Feels”
(Video was pretty cool, even if MTV/VH1 reversed the word "joint" in the song.)
117. Sarah McLachlan “Possession”
(Though this wasn't a huge smash on VH1, I was very impressed.)
118. Elton John “Circle of Life”
119. The Breeders “Cannonball”
120. Counting Crows “Round Here”
121. Eternal “Stay”
122. Rolling Stones “Out of Tears”
(A very fine, underrated ballad.)
123. Candlebox “Far Behind”
(Never did see what the huge fuss was about this one.)
124. The Cranberries “Dreams”
(Like it way more now than I did that year.)
125. Stone Temple Pilots “Wicked Garden” (1993: #110)
126. Sting “When We Dance”
(Another lovely, underrated ballad.)
127. Bonnie Raitt “Love Sneakin’ Up on You”
(One of my dad's favorite artists.)
128. John Mellencamp “Dance Naked”
(Thought this was a charming little song.)
129. Live “Selling the Drama”
(Amazing that my first impression of Ed was from this video, where he had long, wavy hair underneath a backward ballcap and wore glasses. And then the "I Alone" video changed his appearance forever.)
130. R.E.M. “Bang and Blame”
131. Green Day “When I Come Around”
(I remember MTV was champing at the bit so hard for a new Green Day video that as soon as this song went to radio, they threw its Woodstock '94 performance on the air to tide them over.)
132. Gin Blossoms “Allison Road”
133. “Weird Al” Yankovic “Headline News”
(Hot "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" parody! Video was so funny.)
134. Toni Braxton “Breathe Again” (1993: #140)
135. Urge Overkill “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon”
(Hot Neil Diamond remake! )
136. The Murmurs “You Suck”
(A fantastic little acoustic song by these two girls and unfortunate one-hit wonders. God, the mid-'90's were so awesome for music.)
137. Nirvana “Scentless Apprentice”
(Hot album cut!)
138. Live “I Alone”
(I remember when Beavis and Butt-head watched this video, they imagined there being a little shirtless Ed doll that would yell at you if you pulled the string (Ed's unfortunate braided remnant of his long hair) on the back of his head. Oh, and they speculated that the drummer forgot to bring his drums to the video shoot so he was "just gonna have to wander around in the back like a dumbass." )
139. U2 “All I Want Is You”
(Totally weird that this Rattle & Hum song was resurrected for the Reality Bites soundtrack and that it stuck around on the bottom of the Pop chart for a very long time. I never heard it other than on Casey's Top 40.)
140. Warren G “Do You See”
(Thought this was a better single than "This DJ.")
141. TLC “Creep”
142. Lucas “Lucas with the Lid Off”
A few years before this song, he apparently toured at my brother's junior high school. Looking at Wikipedia, he co-wrote the Pussycat Dolls current single, "I Hate This Part" and his dad founded Pottery Barn. )
143. Celine Dion “The Power of Love” (1993: #122)
144. Nirvana “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle”
(Hot album cut!)

(Video for this was real cool. Underrated single.)
146. Stone Temple Pilots “Interstate Love Song”
147. Ce Ce Peniston “I’m in the Mood”
148. Spin Doctors “You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast”
(Their last Top 40 hit.)
149. Weezer “Undone - The Sweater Song”
150. Blind Melon “Tones of Home”
(Video showed the bee girl finding her old costume in a trunk one day and reliving her memories of it.)
151. Blind Melon “No Rain” (1993: #45)
152. Bruce Springsteen “Streets of Philadelphia”
(My brother and I always made fun of how Bruce mumbled his way through this song and how it was startling to see his head appear in the moving frame of the video at the beginning of the first verse.)
153. Babyface “And Our Feelings”
(Honestly, I barely even remember this song anymore; it's been so long since I heard it. Basing its placement on my chart stats.)
154. Counting Crows “Mr. Jones”
(Never really saw what the big deal was with this song.)
155. Frenté! “Bizarre Love Triangle”
(Hot New Order remake! Hadn't even heard New Order's version at this point.)
156. Heart “Will You Be There (In the Morning)”
157. The Brand New Heavies “Dream on Dreamer”
158. Soundgarden “Spoonman”
159. Meat Loaf “Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are”
(Haven't heard this one in forever.)
160. Richard Marx “Now and Forever”
161. Pearl Jam “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”
162. Morrissey “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get”
163. Dr. Dre “Let Me Ride” (1993: #62)
164. Enigma “Return to Innocence”
(Like it a lot more now.)
165. Roxette “Sleeping in My Car”
(Barely remember this one.)
166. Alice in Chains “I Stay Away”
(The video for this was sad. Even if it was all claymation. )
167. Cracker “Get Off This”
(I remember the little animated smoking dog from the video and when he got pissed off for some reason.)
168. Cypress Hill “Insane in the Brain”
(Didn't like this song for a long time, which is why it didn't chart for '93.)
169. Toni Braxton “Seven Whole Days”
(Saw the video on The Box, when I was visiting an old friend one day. My family had moved and we had MTV (cable) by this point. Anyway, this wasn't a domestic single, but was a hit on the R&B chart.)
170. Michael Bolton “Said I Loved You…But I Lied” (1993: #127)
171. Guns N’ Roses “Since I Don’t Have You”
(Hot Skyliners remake! )
172. K7 “Come Baby Come” (1993: #168)
173. Whitney Houston “Queen of the Night”
174. Tevin Campbell “I’m Ready”
(Didn't like this one near as much as "Can We Talk.")
175. Billy Joel “All About Soul” (1993: #94)
176. Amy Grant “The Lucky One”
(Didn't like this near as much as her Heart in Motion singles.)
177. Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas Is You”
(Mariah has never looked sexier than on the cover of her Merry Christmas album in her feminine Santa suit.)

179. All-4-One “So Much in Love”

(Hot album cut!)

198. Gabrielle “Dreams” (1993: #191)
199. A Lighter Shade of Brown “Hey DJ”
200. R. Kelly “Your Body’s Callin’ ”
(The female lead in this beach video was pretty fetching, as I recall.)
