Good call! I was going to throw Modest Mouse in there but probably would've went with "OBS" instead. And wasn't ambitous enough to look for audio of "Tiny Cities..." I didn't go directly in favorites, either. After my guessing game of '08 is up I'll post up the entire chart I made of songs from '98-'08. I'm at least familiar enough with most of these so far.

I was about to just straight up post my top 5 of the decade, but I thought it'd be better to save it for if I decide to make a countdown or guessing game for the whole decade at the end of this year. Same here. A top 100 of the 2000s is a near-certainty for me in less than 12 months. I've actually been thinking about it off-and-on for a few months now. You suck. And you having to use that link for the video makes me even more pissed that the real video never came out. (Wikipedia has an unsourced claim that the director, Israel Anthem, either intentionally or unintentionally lifted the concept from a European band's video.) I'll go with some choices that aren't necessarily my absolute top favorites, but are still unlikely to be picked by many others: Eve 6 - "Here's to the Night"Finished top 5 for 2001. (Yes, it's about a one-night stand, not graduations. But it came along at the perfect time, during one of the only times I felt good about high school -- graduation and the months immediately prior to it.)Coldplay - "Clocks"Finished #2 for 2003. (I listened to this maybe 8 or 9 times in a row after the first time I heard it.)Muse - "Stockholm Syndrome"My #1 song of 2004. (The above YouTube clip is of a live performance, obviously; I couldn't find anything that had the audio to the studio version. But relating to live Muse performances, it's time to confess my dirty little secret. In the spring of 2007, I went to see the Muse/My Chemical Romance show in Pensacola. Muse was first, and they were freakin' amazing. My attention, however, wasn't 100% on the music. I had suckered gotten a female friend of mine to come with me - she said she liked both bands, although Muse a little more than MCR. I wanted to stay and see MCR play too, but eventually she convinced me to leave between sets and make the hour-long drive back to Mobile. Her and her female-ness. She then proceeded to spend 95% of the trip back asleep in the passenger seat of my car. So I missed MCR entirely, and I didn't get the full Muse experience I should have. F**k her. She shouldn't have gotten to see Muse play for free. She didn't even pay for gas. So I can only hope that one day I can see Muse play again, guest or sans guest, so I can properly rock the f**k out to "Stockholm Syndrome".)Foo Fighters - "The Pretender"My #2 song of 2007. (Now I liked the Foo Fighters and all, but they were never one of my favorite bands until 2003, when "All My Life" came out. That one hit #1 on my personal chart, and it quickly rose to #2 behind "Everlong" on my FF report card. But then "Best of You" came along in 2005 and I liked that one even better. When I thought the bar couldn't be set much higher, "The Pretender" comes waltzing in and does just that. Did it deserve 20 weeks at #1 on the alternative chart? Maybe not. But if any song ever did, I can't think of many other songs I would want to give that honor.)And since I have a feeling this tournament will be very rhythmic-deficient: Timbaland f/Keri Hilson & D.O.E. - "The Way I Are"Finished top 10 for 2007.If we need an additional one later to fill out the group (and if this is acceptable): Matthew Good Band - "Giant"Did not make my personal chart. Was released originally in Canada on Beautiful Midnight in 1999, but re-released in the US in 2001.

Saosin "Voices"Nina Gordon "Tonight and the Rest of My Life"Deftones "No Ordinary Love" (audio only) Darude "Sandstorm"Clipse "Grindin'"Actually, do me a favor, though. If you need to hear any of these songs or to refresh yourself, go ahead and watch the Clipse video if you prefer, but don't bother watching the other 4. The Deftones is obviously audio only anyway, but the other three videos are extremely cheesy, after having viewed them for the very first time just now (Saosin, Darude), or for the first time in 8 years (Nina Gordon, which I never saw all that much to begin with). And just in case anybody thinks Nina is some no-name Lilith Fair also-ran half-hit wonder, I remind you that she was one half of the girls in Veruca Salt. Please only watch "Grindin'."

. I just wasn't expecting for that. And interestingly the less rock-based ones don't suprise me as much. Actually if we have to add more I finally have some non-rock ones I could do.. 3 of 'em if that's how many to add.

. I just wasn't expecting for that. And interestingly the less rock-based ones don't suprise me as much. I never really heard much of "Voices" when it was popular, and having a negative impression of Saosin from one year prior when they opened for Avenged (likely with Anthony Green instead of Cove Reber), it took me forever to get into it. And obviously I never got tired of it, since I never heard it much. They opened for 30 Seconds to Mars in '07 and while they didn't do much for me, I realized I really liked that song and it got stuck in my head. It just missed my chart for last year by a couple songs. I downloaded a copy of the album this year at some point, if for no other reason than to hear "Voices" whenever I wanted. And I was so into it at one random point that it charted below my Top 40 for a couple weeks this year and had just enough constant interest throughout the year to actually make the list this year. And since I just made it, it's fresh on my mind and I knew that would be a lock for one of my 5 songs here. Largely because no one else was likely to nominate it or expect it. That was a mouthful. Also, when Matt pointed out that this tournament was likely to be very short on rhythmic/urban songs, I had every intention of making 4 of my songs hip hop/R&B songs. Before I looked at my Excel document of my entire CD collection, though, I looked at the tracklists of the mix CDs I made for the first few years of this decade. And instead of finding hip hop tracks I wanted to use, I found 3 of those 4. And one of the songs I saw (N.O.R.E.'s "Nothin'"), reminded me of the even better "Grindin'" by the Clipse, which was also produced by the Neptunes and was one of my back-to-school jams that would have been right there on that disc if I hadn't bought Lord Willin'. So yeah, I liked the thought of using those other 4 so much that I just went ahead and stopped there. "Voices" aside, I didn't even get to 2003.

Lol, I remember first watching that video on TV when it came out and they actually blurred out the guns in the video.

I watched the "Sandstorm" video and clicked on a related link to finally see exactly what the Zombie Nation song was. I had a feeling I might have heard it all along, and of course that feeling was correct. But that's what they get for not having lyrics!

I had a feeling I might have heard it all along, and of course that feeling was correct. But that's what they get for not having lyrics! I watched that Zombie Nation video too for the exact same reason! It was a song I heard almost exclusively on Open House Party for the first half of this decade on Jonesboro, AR's Pop station, while driving to or from college in Memphis. (Must have been on my back to college, now that I think about it, as OHP aired Sunday nights.) Somewhere along the line, I once vaguely heard the phrase "Zombie Nation" attached to it, so that looked familiar when I saw that related video pop up after watching "Sandstorm." The melody was the same, but apparently I've always heard the "Sport Chant Remix," after further investigation with Wikipedia. It turned out that video was just as stupid and pointless as "Sandstorm" was. The only redemption it had was at the very end, when the host brought out the two dildos for the models to demonstrate (one of them obviously being the "Kernkraft 400" brand), and the screen fades to black before anything gets to happen.

Well yeah, they pretty much play "Kenkraft 400" (at least The Live Mix) in between breaks at almost every hockey game, so I'd be surprised if you haven't heard it.

I've been to exactly one hockey game since I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. And that was the Blues home opener last season for free, with three other co-workers, because I happened to be in the right place at the right time. Who knows? They might have played it that night.

That previous reply was directed more to Steve than you. But it wouldn't surprise me if they play it at other major sporting events, and I wouldn't know since I rarely watch sports outside of hockey and/or olympics.

Well, I don't pay close enough attention to which specific teams play the song; I just know for sure that it's played all over the place. I could tell you several of the Red Wings' less ubiquitous play stoppage songs, but can't say for sure if they play "Kernkraft 400".
Although I do remember being at Michigan Stadium for the Toledo/Michigan game, sitting in the Toledo section as the loudspeaker was silent, and Toledo students were chanting the K400 hook, on the road. And I remember that because I found it extremely lame of them to act as if it was their own song or something. But unsurprisingly, Toledo does play that song to no end at football and basketball games alike.
Also, I'm completely convinced that the Numa Numa song was familiar to me because of sporting events as well, because I sure as hell did not watch that famous YouTube video. But once again, I couldn't tell you exactly where.

So yeah, what's going on with this thing? Do we need any more nominations or anything?

Josh Joplin Group - Camera One I'd forgotten about that one. Love that one. Later used to great effect in the Bourne movies.

Um, if we're working this the same way as the 80s and 90s tournaments, you might want to strike one of those Britney songs, since it's supposed to be no more than two songs per artist.

I can't believe there's not only gonna be one Girls Aloud song in this tournament, but two.

We have 61 songs so far (12 times 5, plus Matt's extra song. And I guess I'll let all 3 Britney songs compete since I didn't specify to begin with). We usually play with 64 songs, so we have room for 3 more. So I'll add Crazytown- "Drowning", the #1 song on my very first weekly chart. Which leaves space for 2 more people to nominate 1 song each, preferably by artists that don't already have 2 or more songs nominated.
